We went on our first ABD last summer - Cowboy and Canyons and loved every minute of it ! We are now thinking about the Alaska trip - any comments or advice ?

All I can say is that we just got back from a non-Disney Alaska cruise and the whole time we were thinking "imagine how awesome it would be to see this state with an Adventure by Disney!" What an amazing area of our country!

We have done the Disney cruise in Alaska and it was breathtaking! I would go back in a heartbeat and the ABD trip is one of the options I would choose!

We happened to have beautiful weather every day that we were there (we went mid August), but it is definitely one of the spots where you should dress like an onion. Layers will help for those days that it starts off a little cool, and if you happen on gorgeous weather like we did, peel down to t-shirts.

I have taken the Alaska ABD (back in 2009) and absolutely totally LOVED it! It was my second trip to Alaska (the first was a Princess cruisetour). And I have to say, as much as I loved my cruisetour, the Alaska ABD was even better. They've changed the itinerary since then (No time in Fairbanks, but more time in Anchorage). Although I loved Fairbanks, and am sad it's gone, the additions they made in Anchorage *more* than make up for it. I'm actually considering taking this ABD again (if I could afford to do 2 ABD's in a year, I'd so do this one as the second! But there's so many new places to go!)

You go further into the "real" Alaska than a cruise does. The ports in the Inland passage are cute, but they don't show you the majesty that is inland Alaska! The Kenai Peninsula (absofrickinlutely amazing!), Turnagain Arm, Denali National Park and Mt Denali (spectacular!), it all leaves Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway in the dust. If you loved Cowboys & Canyons (my favorite ABD until recently) I think you'll love the Alaska ABD, too.

Just for some perspective, at the end of the trip (post-day on my own) I tripped and fell and sliced my head open on a wooden deck step. Staples in my scalp, missed my flight. And yet, it was just a minor blip, and in NO WAY diminished my love of this trip.

In case you couldn't tell, I highly recommend this trip. I happen to think that Alaska is one of the most beautiful places in the World. And ABD does a really nice job of showing it to you.

Sayhello

We are looking into ABD Alaska this summer but can't decide between it and a Disney Alaska cruise, mainly because we will have our two girls (age 12 and 9) with us.

I took the Alaska ABD the same year as sayhello, which was the first year it was offered. Of the 5 ABDs I've taken, it is my favorite. I definitely want to return to Alaska someday.

ABD is looking more likely, especially when comparing prices. With airfare out of Memphis, they are both looking to cost around the same when I factor in shore excursions for the cruise. Going more into Alaska is also looking more appealing. :thumbsup2
