Thinking about a solo trip

I have never been to WDW before. I've been wanting to go for years now (I've been to DL many times, but WDW sounds like a bigger experience). We were planning a trip for my little sister through Make-A-Wish, but she died before the trip happened (before it had even been scheduled).

Anyway, I'm turning 21 in March. Over the summer a few friends and I were going to go to Las Vegas. But now I'm thinking I may want to dip into my savings, a bit, and go to WDW as a birthday present to me instead (I'm thinking early August 2008). My sister died three days before my birthday- so they day itself isn't going to be happy, and we used to celebrate my birthday in August due to scheduling conflicts, anyway.

So, do you guys think it's worth A) the extra money and B) to go alone my first time (I'm not bothered by being alone- just that I might be overwhelmed by all there is to do).

I already have some arguments to tell my parents if I choose WDW. A) I don't really enjoy gambling, B) I've seen LV so many times that there will be nothing new aside from drinking and gambling C) I won't be on a five-hour road trip with other young people (high risk of crashing) and D) I've been waiting to see WDW for so long.

Thanks in advance,
-Alisa

PS I forgot to mention that after this upcomming summer I will not be able to travel for the next two summers due to internships. After that, I have to get a job. So this may be my last opportunity to go for a few years.

Just returned from my 1st solo trip in a few years and it was one of my best trips yet. I highly recommend it!!

And being your 1st trip to WDW, it'll be nice because you can do what YOU want, when YOU want. I'd set up a basic itinerary for each day (ie. EMH) and what you'd like to ride/see during your trip. Same for meals. Then just enjoy your trip! I know it'll be an emotional one, but the magic of Disney has always helped me cope/heal...

Here's my trip report if you're interested:

Good luck!!! :goodvibes

you and your sister look just alike! two beautiful princesses.

yes, go solo. it's awesome! You can do what you want, when you want...and as we all know...life can be short and none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.

Grab yer gusto, baby!!!

have a wonderful time!

I am too thinking about doing a solo trip next year (bf) doesn't want to do Disney 3yrs in a row can you believe that????:scared1: well I am just trying to find out just how many other people actually do the solo thing and wow am I surprised. I know a few people that have gone but didn't realize just how many there are that go solo. so please add me to all the lists.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your sister.

As far as the solo trip, I say go for it! There is a lot to do, but since you'll be doing things at your own pace, I don't think you'll be overwhelmed.

Please let us know when you make a decision.

I go at least twice a year with my children, but I run the WDW marathon every year and make that trip by myself. I love having my children there, but it's also nice to have a day or so to do things my kids aren't really interested in and to be on my own schedule. I think you'll have a great time. Besides it's usually very easy to meet people in that atmosphere.

Have fun!
Jim

Just wanted to say so sorry for your loss. :grouphug:

As far as the money goes, I have always had luck with discount codes. You can book a trip and add codes later. I just called today and saved $90 on a two day stay at Pop Century in Oct. I think by planning ahead you have more time to watch for airfare sales too.

If you think WDW is something you want to do, go for it!

Thanks, though I'm no princess (I'm the tinkerbell girl of the family), she was definitely a princess.

I'm going! My mother's only concern when I told her about it was that I'd get lonely. I don't think I will, though. I love doing things on my own. Plus, I may meet a DISer while I'm there.

Thanks for persuading me, guys.
