We are thinking about a Sep27th trip to see Mickey. Are the crowds down???Does anyone know when the lovebugs start ????? Will I still be able to get so hotel deals this late??

Thanks abunch,
Deb

In the past we have gone in September. Crowds are low, but park hours are shorter. In our book though, it made more sense to go then and avoid the crowds.

Lovebugs are usually pretty visible in September. Yuck!

Just stay away from white and the lovebugs should leave you alone. It rained one day that I was there 2 years ago and it was the greatest! I went to AK with my rain poncho and had a blast. Everything was a walk on. The crowds were small as it was and with the rain, it made the park litereally empty. If I felt too wet, I just stopped in the bathroom and used the hand dryers to dry myself off, but I only did that once or twice the entire day. Have a great time!

My friend went in sept and said the lovebugs were everywhere and on everything but I am braving it anyways and going sept 23rd to the 28th.

sorry we are english. what are love bugs as we are due in september and do not what to get caught out.
we went last year and had a lovely time with out any animal attacks in september.

thanks.

Love Bugs are actually flies. They are called "love bugs" because they are most visible during mating season. They take to the Florida highways while mating and smash all over your car. Quite the pain in the butt.

And to the OP, September is my favorite time at Disney. Amazing deals (yeah, you should still be able to find some), although that's tempered a bit this year by FTP. We've never found the lack of hours to be a problem at all. We get done more during shorter hours. Also, know that Epcot World Showcase is open until nine each night, with Illuminations. If we're in an 'all day in the parks' mood, we just switch to Epcot when we leave a closing park. And what a great time to hit PI. Enjoy!

We go in Sept every year. Last 2 years I don't remember seeing a love bug in sight! 2000 was a bad year for them, I forget the reason, SIL lives in Orlando and warned us. They weren't that bad, they didn't bother us.....we only noticed them outside the room.
The weather is usually good and the crowds are low. FTP may have made the crowds a little larger. The only thing we worry about is the rain, but so far it's been great.
As far as reservations, I am sure you could find something.

Do the love bugs bite?

Why does wearing white or colors make a difference?

We've been in Sept '94 and don't remember these flies. This is the first I've ever heard of them.

We're going Sept 28th- Oct. 10th this year.

PS- To all who are going at this time...I'll be wearing my lime green ribbon....just bought it at Walmart and it's already packed!:)

I know it has only happened ONCE in over 30 years, but beware of hurricanes!!!!! I was there when Hurricane Floyd decided to join us on vacation and we had to evacuate Fort Wilderness. He never hit, but the parks were closed for 2 days and we had been advised to head home so we did after only 2 days there. This was a vacation I had planned and saved for......for 4 years! I wish I had kept my eye on the weather and canceled my vacation. Packing up at 2 am and driving for 12 hours before we could even find a campground to stay at was not fun. Not to mention the dissapointment for our 6 kids who had watched the bankbook grow in anticipation of the trip. I will say...no crowds....it was hot and humid. I have heard October is a better time to go weather wise. Hurricane season lasts till November I think...Melissa

What a shame! I can not even imagine how disappointing that must have been! I feel so bad for you. Hope your upcoming trip is just wonderful....you deserve it!!!

I distinctly remember Floyd. We had a long weekend planned for the Jersey Shore with friends visiting from NC and AZ. The day the hurricane hit and most people where evacuating the shore, we had a caravan heading down!! I kept saying to myself, "This is crazy!" As it turned out, it was not much worse than a bad summer storm. We got to experience calm of "the eye" passing over us (really neat photos that I later used for my son's school report on wheather) followed by more stormy weather. After that it was really nice.

At the time, I cried.....hubby and I had had rotten luck when it came to trips, and this one was no different. Now I just look at it as another chapter in the book I want to write about all of our vacations experiences . After we got home I found out what message boards were and planned our trip back with all the wonderful advice of people form the boards.
We had an absolute BLAST!!! I wish my budget would allow yearly trips there, but it doesn't so I read about everyone elses trips. I am so looking forward to the cruise and thanks crazymomof4 for the well wishes!:p Melissa

crazymom, to answer your question, no lovebugs do not bite. Mostly they are just annoying since they don't watch were they fly at all. Usually by the end of Sept., they are going away.

Ugh September 2000 was HORRIBLE for lovebugs. Aren't they the most stupid things living? They were literally everywhere. We couldn't get into our hotel room without swishing them away for a few minutes first. We had to ask some of the employees what they were. Now I know they are mostly around in September. I was thinking of a September trip now I am rethinking.
