things to do while in SCal, staying in DL

Heading west this summer, in July. Can you share with me your top 5 things to see in Southern California? Or, things that are a day-trip away from Disneyland? We plan to stay in DL, go there for 3 days and then branch out from there. Don't want to do Universal at all. Thanks, in advance!

Are you close at all to the redwood forest? and/or anything at all "in nature?" I have to sell this to my husband who is not big on city vacations.

No, the redwoods are all in northern California. If you wanted to go to Palm Springs, you can take the aerial tram up to the top of the mountain to San Jacinto State park. There's a forest, hiking trails and views of the valley below.

But, you also have the beaches.

Thx! I will definitely research that! We are looking to mix some tranquility in with the mayhem! I saw you are from AZ, we did Sedona and the GC in July 2010--it was breathtaking!

Long Beach Aquarium is worth a few hour stop.

Theres numerous wineries for a day of wine tasting at Temecula which is about an 1 1/2 hours away from DL.

Knotts Berry Farm is a fun old theme park about 10 minutes from DL.

Universal Studios is about 40 miles to the north of DL.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is about 60 miles to the north of DL.

Sea World and Zoo in San Diego are great.

Safari park near Escondido is excellent!

The Scripps Aquarium near La Jolla is nice.
