Things to do near Portsmouth New Hampshire?

That would probably be The Weathervane. Hmmm. They USED to be very good but they seem to go downhill a tad every year, IMO. The food isn't bad, but if I were looking for seafood in that section of Kittery, I'd recommend going across the street to Bob's Clam Hut, or a teensy bit north (go over the inlet) to Robert's (which is owned by the Clam Hut). We have been eating at Bob's Clam Hut for decades, and the seafood is MUCH better than Weathervane's. I haven't been to Robert's yet, but everyone is raving about it. The Clam Hut is definitely a jeans&tee shirt kind of place, where you place the order for your food and take it to the table when your number is called; Robert's is a true restaurant.

She did say we should go to the clam hut! That's one of their favorite places, that and the redhook brewery. The lobster place she mentioned wasn't The Weathervane, I want to say it was Lobster shack?

If you want a truly local experience, go to Flo's. It's on Route 1 north in York (actually probably Cape Neddick), maybe about 3 or so miles past Stonewall Kitchen. It's a dive, a teeny place, that serves hot dogs. JUST hot dogs (Ok, chips and soda, too). It's been there forever, and is currently staffed by the granddaughter of the original owner, Flo. (Flo passed away several years ago, and sometimes her daughter is behind the counter, but she's pretty much retired now.) They serve steamed hot dogs with their amazing "Flo Sauce" which is an onion, brown sugar, spices, and I don't know what Sauce. The "real" way to get the dogs is with Flo Sauce, mayo, and celery salt, but they'll also do them with mustard, catsup, relish, maybe sauerkraut? It's strictly take-out, strictly cash, and definitely an experience. Don't be skeeved out- if you're in the area, you really should have a Flo Dog. Give Flo's a try, if you wanna eat lunch like a local. (only open from 11-2 or 3, and closed WEdnesdays).

had to check back because we went to Kennebunkport Christmas prelude on Saturday and had so much fun. Op, if you can fit it into your schedule, it is still going on this coming weekend. and if you do go, you have got to stop at Mornings in Paris. Its a French bakery/coffee shop and the kids and I splurged on some French hot chocolate there that I am convinced was life changing. I have never tasted anything so good in my life! Amazing. :) Dh got a cappuccino which he said was very good, but I could tell he was a little bummed he didn't go for the French hot chocolate (they have regular hot chocolate, too, so if you do go, specify you want French).

Oh yes! Life changing French hot chocolate and pastries just got added to the "must do" list!
We are here now! I'm looking forward to exploring today! :)
