Hi everyone. I finalized our itinerary for our trip this May and just realized that it may rain at some point. Of course there is no room in my itinerary for rain, but some things you just can't control.:cloud9:
Does anyone have any suggestions on things to do in case it rains? Are there nice malls in the area?:cool1:
Thanks in advance for all your replies.

Our last May trip it rained 5 out of 7 days.

The rain is usually in the afternoon around 2pm and only lasts an hour or 2. (Some days it rained earlier, sometimes later, shorter or longer)

We always plan on going back to the resort for lunch/swim/rest, so on rain days we just rested in room or shopped.

Hanging out at a monorails resort while you wait for the rain to pass is pretty cool. The view of a storm from the Contemporary's lounge is breathtaking & you can always jump on the monorail & go to the Poly or GF if you get bored w/the arcade & gift shop there.

we usually just bring ponchos, and a rain cover for our stroller and go on the rides/attractions that are indoors. The rains tend to pass pretty quickly and come and go so if you are prepared they don't make all that much difference on your trip.

What? It might rain on my vacation!?:scared1: That happened to alot of Late May WDW Vacationers last year, including Me!

My advice make sure you have rain gear. Buy a couple of Dollar store Ponchos for everyone.

Most of all the rides in WDW are will run in any weather, Because they are inside.

I believe these are the ones that shut down because of rain:

Magic Kingdom - Big Thunder Mountain Railway, Barnstormer, Dumbo, Aladdin's Carpets, Tomorrowland Speedway.

Epcot - Test Track

Disney's Hollywood Studios - NONE:All rides are inside! (Note: If there is Lightening Tower of Terror could shutdown.)

Animal Kingdom - Expedition Everest (Note: It has benn observed that the Animals on the Trails and Safari are more active during the rain showers.)

Rain will chase way alot of people, so if you stick around you might find that it might be less crowded during and after long rain showers. Most of the times the rain is just a short 10-15 minute shower.

When it rains, we just don rain gear and slog on. We stay off the wild coasters if it's raining hard, because rain pelting you in the face is NOT fun, but there are lots of things to do indoors at the parks. Animal Kingdom is more of a challenge than the rest, and Epcot is the easiest to do in rain.

When we went in September, 2008, it rained almost every day, and we found that some of our best memories of that trip came as we were braving the rain. The rain really does chase the crowds from the park and, even if some of the headliners are closed, not only does the rain allow you to ride some of those attractions that are always passed up in favor of the headliners, but also allows you to experience the parks in a different light. And, although we were told that Florida showers only lasted 10-15 minutes, our experience in September was that it rained at least an hour, sometimes several hours, without letting up. I would recommend at least trying to be out in the rain (with ponchos, of course). It will either be your cup of tea or not, but, like us, you might find some very special park memories with the experience. :goodvibes

The only time that WDW shuts down attracations due to rain is if there is lightening. Otherwise, pull on a poncho and have a great time. DTD is also great when it's raining (movies, DQ)

Thanks everyone for the great responses. We are only heading to parks one day, this is going to be a r&r vacation for a change...my wife is now 5.5 months pregnant and not in the mood to commando style vacations that we've done in the past in the heat. My 4 year old and I will brave the rain if it comes.:cool1:

We were there last May when they had record rains. It downpoured 4 out of 5 days we were there. Ponchos, ponchos, ponchos. You forget about the rain after awhile.

Go to the AK and go on the safari. The animals are more active and you will see some you ahve never seen before. Another option is to go to Disney quest.

T-T-D-I-C-I Rains U ask,...........go fishing at PORS fishing hole. :thumbsup2

When we went last December, it was cold and rainy for the first couple days of our trip. We tried the parks, but it wasn't long before we felt chilled to the bone and headed out.

We were are Kidani. I loved watching the animals in the rain. Even if we weren't staying here, I would be willing to head here to watch the animals and explore the resort.

We like to go to DTD when it's raining.

While I have never been to DisneyQuest. It sounds like a fun destination on a rainy day.

There are also a couple of outlet malls in the area if you've got a car and want to head out.

I think the outlets is a definite possibility, we are renting a car and nothing makes my wife happier than shopping.

We always bring ponchos and just keep going. So many people either leave the parks or don't come when it rains that you can get a lot done. Although, I don't enjoy the rain I certainly don't mind the reduced crowds.

Good to see a fellow Connecticut DVC'er

A few people have suggested Disney Quest for a rainy day. DO NOT go to Disney Quest on a rainy day. It is mobbed. Not fun at all.

Since Disney Quest has no windows (but it does have doors), go on the nicest sunniest day you have. It is no different inside Disney Quest on a sunny day from a rainy day except you will be alone in there.

Disney Quest is great when you can go from floor to floor without standing in line or having to wait. On a rainy day, you wait and wait and wait. Think Toy Story Mania line at 2 in the afternoon after Voyage of the Little Mermaid gets out and the fast passes are all gone. Not fun.

Call us crazy but... we go to the parks.

Never understood why a little (or a lot) of rain scares people. Sometimes when the skies literally open up we jump into a shop for a few minutes but usually we just trudge through. We are from the PNW though so I guess we are used to the rain. :confused3 and know we won't melt away because of it. :wizard:
