Things to do in Charlotte NC

I am thinking of trying to meet my In-laws in Charlotte
They are in their 70's but fit.
There would also be DH and I and our DDs 10 and 13
any thoughts?
We like history -but I am open to all kinds of suggestions

What about restaurants
anybody have thoughts on places to eat?

What area are you staying in and what type of restaurant are you looking for?

Well thats the thing -I don't really know.
I guess maybe I should figure that out first. Part of that will depend on what we decide to do.
I was thinking of some kind of museum and out to eat and maybe some shopping.
Any thoughts??

There are a couple of museums and such uptown and you could use light rail. There are also a lot of good restaurants uptown too. Not too much shopping though. The Mint Museum is nice too. You could also check into what exhibit is showing at Discovery Place when you visit. Right now they have the Pompei exhibit.

There are a couple of good malls- Southpark has the higher end stores, Carolina Place is in South Charlotte (Pineville) and has more moderate priced stores- this is the one I go to all the time . Northlake Mall is north Charlotte (Huntersville) and is really nice too. It has more moderate priced stores as well.

There is an Apple store in SouthPark Mall.
There is also a Cheesecake Factory in SouthPark Mall.
