Everyone has helped me plan my WDW trip. I am now looking other things to do around Cedar Point. We are going the end of June for a little over a week.
It will be me, DH and DS13 and DS16. We will be camping. We have never been to Ohio so we are open to almost anything!! Thanks!!

Want to go into Cleveland? The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is cool, and we have one of the finest small art museums in the country.

Check out the Lake Erie Islands, especially Put-in-Bay! PiB can be somewhat of a party environment, but it's also great for families. We try to do that once a year.

Is that where you live? We went there for my b-day -- stayed in the city and went to the RnR Hall of Fame. We ate at this most awesome restaurant. Brasa -- have you been there? OMG. My mouth waters just thinking about it.

Is it downtown? I haven't eaten downtown in a long time. I was just saying to DH on Sunday, we went to the opera and I was mad because there were no restaurants in the city. I'll look for it. Thanks for the suggestion!

We like Little Italy alot?

I've heard great things about Brasa, but never have had a chance to try it yet. :thumbsup2

Another thing that your boys might like is the Pro Football Hall of Fame, in Canton (about an hour south of Cleveland). :thumbsup2

They serve the meat on skewers, and they have a really large buffet table with all kinds of different salads and veggies. It's rather pricey, but we'd do it again in a heartbeat.

DH and I want to move to Cleveland.

DH and I want to move to Cleveland.

Really? :) That's nice, but can I ask why????? ;)

I'm originally from PA and maybe this is why, but I think Pittsburgh is alot more fun. Truthfully, I can't wait to get outta here. My job requires alot of travel so I get out alot and I'm not really complaining, but Cleveland wouldn't be my first (or second or third or fourth) choice!!!!

I'm not asking this to make fun of you. Seriously, what do you see that I am missing?

First of all, the people are really nice in Ohio in general. I spent a summer living there with an uncle and aunt when I was younger, and I loved it (this was around the Geauga Lake area). We love Lake Erie. The city itself is so clean and nice -- when we were there, it was really happening. We stayed in the theater district the last time we were there. Every time we go to the Cleveland area, we end up having a great time.

So, what's so great about Pittsburgh??? :teeth:

It could be just a homesick PA girl talking, but I think there is more of everything in Pittsburgh. More music, more restaurants, more activity. Cleveland's playhouse square is beautiful, don't get me wrong, and Severance Hall is to die for. But it's a little depressing when people don't support the arts around here (I think that's why, when we get the Broadway series, we get the second string and it's just not that good. Evita, for example, was TERRIBLE!!!!!!)

At the Opera, in Cleveland, it's me, DH, and a bunch of 80 year olds. In Pittsburgh, we go, and there are families and even young people on dates. Once we saw a group of young people in their 20s at the opera wearing "opera clothes", gowns, gloves, even a couple of tiaras (looked like thrift shop stuff - adorable!!) It just feels more alive in Pittsburgh -- but like I said, I admit I may be prejudiced! :)

I have to 2nd the vote for Put-In-Bay. DH and I are going there for a few days in June and staying at a Bed and Breakfast. It's a really neat place to visit.

My DH's family lives one town over from Cedar Point in Port Clinton. When we visit, we go to Cedar Point, the Toledo Zoo, out to Put in Bay on the ferry and rent a golf cart, we once went to some deer park that I thought was nasty, we've been to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and the Football Hall of Fame. Next time we go, we will probably drive north through Michigan into Canada.

In Castalia/Bellevue area there is a neat place called Seneca Caverns. It's a cave where the layers of the earth separated. You can go down several levels. They have a tour guide to take you. My kids love going there! At the bottom of the cave there is a natural spring. It depends on how high the water table is as to how far down you can go.
When you get to the bottom, you can drink from the natural spring.
I'm clausterphobic, and didn't have ONE problem there. We've been several times. It's really a neat thing to see.

In Milan OH is Thomas Edison's Birthplace and museum. It's a neat historical thing to do.
Lots of people here have suggested Put In Bay. We prefer Kelly's Island. Very pretty, good restaurants, nice place. Less of a party atmostphere at night too.
East Harbor State Park in Marblehead is a nice place to swim and have a picnic.
Sandusky has a Carousel Museum. Won't fill a whole day, but an interesting thing nonetheless.
Soak City - water park owned by Cedar Point. We try to get there every year.
Toledo and Cleveland both have good zoos. Probably an hour's drive either way. Toledo is lots smaller and less walking.
Chet & Matt's Pizza is the best pizza in the area!
Norwalk Raceway Park is about a 20 minute drive. They have drag racing every weekend. You can check their website for schedules. They usually have a big fireworks show sometime in June or July (not sure which).
Where are you camping at?

Edited to add: There are also several wineries in the area that offer tours, tastings and entertainment. Check with the local chamber of commerce(s) for more info.

Was there last August for three days. We played some mini golf and go carts.
Not much to do in Cedar Point, Ohio...

The African Lion Safari is in Port Clinton-it's sort of the Animal Kingdom safari except in your own vehicle-the animals often come to your vehicle to "check things out"

As for Pittsburgh vs Cleveland-give me Cleveland anyday. Not sure where any restaurants are in Pittsburgh-we drove from Ohio for a concert-can't remember the name of the arena-and drove nearly 45 minutes trying to find anything other than arches to eat. We finally paid to park, assuming there was a restaurant either on site or within walking distance. We asked security at the door-he said nothing to eat within 1/2 mile walk-and the doors wouldn't open until 1 hour before showtime to eat concessions. We then noticed a hospital across the street--their snack bar was our dinner.

Definitely Put-in- Bay...It has wineries, caverns, golf, restaurants, shopping, bars, parks, historical museums, a little something for everyone plus the ferry ride over is fun (especially Jet Express)..Also in Toledo, we have our great zoo (rated among the top 5 in the country, art museum, Toledo Mud Hens Triple A baseball (Division Champs in 2005 and tix are only $8, they're the farm team for Detroit Tigers) and Toledo is only about 45 minutes-hour from Sandusky (Cedar Point is the amusement park, not the name of the town :thumbsup2) .
