Things that people get wrong

I'm guilty of having far too many things I could list here ... but wouldn't it be boring if we were all perfect! :teeth:!

Top of my hit list is, when saying the name for the letter 'H', so many people pronounce it 'haitch' when it should be 'aitch'.

I love you already!!!!! This is by far my biggest pet peeve ever. The worst thing is that for as many of us who take issue with this, there are people who will swear that "haitch" is correct.

And if you live in Hinckley then its pronounced Inckley

Lol, close but it is actually Inckleh!! I'm in Leicester too.

I hate "Expresso" as well. Grrrrr!!

now i'm guilty of this one..:rotfl:
i've pulled the chain
instead of saying flushed the toilet...

Guilty as charged!:lmao: We had chains in my Mum and Dad's house, so it made sense there!

I have a lot of pet peeves, here's a couple:

10 items or less (when it should be fewer)
Random apostrophes

Dont think these have been mentioned yet, My two biggest peeves are:

I brought a dress instead of I bought a dress .

and

I would of done that, instead of I would have done that.

Great thread :goodvibes

I would of done that, instead of I would have done that.

Ooh, I hate hearing that one too.

The other one I can't stand is hearing phrases like That is well nice or That is well good

I always thought well was supposed to be used as an adverb :confused3 or maybe I am well thick. ;) :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

We were at a meeting with my sons SEN teacher a few days ago and she kept on saying 'pacific' instead of 'specific' It was all I had not to correct her.
I also don't like it when kids say 'I haven't done nothing (of nuffin)' which would surely means that they must have done something :confused3

That is so funny, I used to work with a guy that kept on mixing up his specific and pacific. When he was presenting at safety meetings, we used to be in stitches everytime he said it.:lmao:

my surname its Towills (as in bath) but so far this week I have been

Mrs two hills ,trowills, towliss :lmao:

that annoys DF his surname is Moreno and when we went to Florida with first choice they called him Mr Moron all the time :rotfl: shouldn't laugh that will be my surname in September as well

:lmao: joh was saying the same thing last night about PIN numbers!

I hate that when I am out shopping and the shop assistant ask me to enter my PIN number into the card machine. - So you want me to enter my Personal Identification Number number! :confused3

'Speak to' someone, when they mean 'speak with'.

also,

Texting spellings creeping into written documents. I have even seen this in reports by social workers that are intended to be submitted to the court,

Also, to add to what someone has already said 'there, their and they're'.

Andrew

Why don't people understand the difference between bring and take:confused3
I also don't like the their, there and they're thing. I mentally correct it when I see it used incorrectly:lmao:

'Speak to' someone, when they mean 'speak with'.

I wouldn't say that's wrong, just an example as to how language has changed and I find both acceptable :)

The brought instead of bought one is something DW always says. She doesn't look so amused when I ask her where did she bring it from ;)

:goodvibes

If you buy something in the Middle East and ask when it will be delivered, they tell you "after tomorrow" and when you try to narrow the day down it is still after tomorrow. Drives me nuts.

If someone dies they say that the person has expired. So weird.:confused3

Hi,
Can't believe I forgot this one. I even saw a card in a Travel Agents window offering a trip to Orlando and included tickets to Disneyland, wow that's a long bus ride!!

Mick

:cool2:

5 years ago I went into a TA and asked if they had brochures for Disneyland, she brought out Disneyworld brochures, I said no wrong place, she was totally confused, she had never heard of Disneyland, CA she then asked me if it was a new park?
I think that was the last time I went in a TA to pick up brochures. I did go in again last year to price up some flights for this Easter, don't know why I bothered, waste of time.

I am not a fussy person when it comes to English, it was my worst subject at school, give me numbers to work with any day.:goodvibes

There's an episode of Holiday Showdown where the families go to Disneyland Paris and the commentator makes a remark about Tinker Bell's Castle! :scared1: :sad2: :sad2:

I went to Disneyland last year and had a character breakfast. One of the characters I met was the fairy godmother and she was telling me all about cinderellas 3 castles in orlando, Tokyo and Paris ;)
