Things that gross you out in WDW!

I have only read about 18 pages of this thread but in that short time it has become clear just how intolerant people are of other people. Yes, the ones that effect you directly, OK, but the rest? Why would you care? Someone is showing belly. Why do you care? Someone breastfeeding. Why do you care. What actual business is it of yours. Your head swivels doesn't it? Look in a different direction.

Agreed I wish they would make the parks completely smoke free.

nevah gonna happen. Don't like it? Don't go near the smoking areas

Nevah say nevah. If you are old enough to think back twenty years ago you would be completely aware of just how different it is now. Smoking is an addiction, it isn't that easy to stop...I know, I have done it. The idea that people are willing to force themselves into a segregated area, willingly I might add, in an effort to protect your rights should count for something. But the demands never stop. I used to say this..."tell you what, you stop driving your fuel burning autos and I will believe that you really care about the air we all breath. Until then mind your own business".

Why is Disney so reluctant to ban smoking? It makes no sense to me!

That's cause you don't understand the addiction.

It just seems odd to me that a place which is HEAVILY marketed to children, has them come there and be exposed to secondhand smoke.

I do agree that secondhand smoke within an enclosed area is a health problem both short and long range, but I'm not buying into the concept that it amounts to diddly in the open air. So it boils down to the "I don't like the smell of it angle"...well tough. I can't tell you how many times I have just dismissed the either artificial or natural odors that people put out. We can't make everyone happy and the world doesn't revolve around individuals.

Don't get me wrong, I don't smoke either, but you can't outright ban smoking at the theme parks. At least 20 percent of the guests smoke, so it would be killing 20% of their business since the parks are full day affair and most people will just take their business to a "smoke friendly" theme park.

They've made smoking sections in the park that are designed to not bother the other guests as much as possible. As for the gentleman on Main Street smoking, you should tell the nearest CM in this situation and they (or a leader) will ask the man to move to a "Designated Smoking Area" or to put it out until he can move to an area at his leisure.

Truthfully, I'd rather deal with holding my breath through a smoking area than deal with extra irritated people who are hours into withdrawals, or have decided to smoke wherever, around the park.

A couple of reality based reasons. If those against are willing to pay Disney the difference based on the smokers based admittance cost, I'm sure they will be happy to ban it.

First let me say that I am not one of those 'recovering smokers' who espouses the evils of smoking. However, I don't understand how the removal of your privilege would then give you the right to break the rules?

It doesn't give one the right any more then being poor makes it alright to rob people, but it happens. I have seen people take some unbelievable chances because they "need" the cigarette. Airplanes, buses and cars. I have seen hospital patients with numerous tubs running into them including oxygen standing outside the building in freezing weather to have a cigarette. The process of getting people to quit is the approach not the threat of admonishment if they don't. Addiction is a strong force. Governments spend million to help drug addicts as long as it has a scary drug name...Cigarettes aren't one of those names that anyone is willing to spend big bucks on. They just figure if we whine enough they will just quit.

I concur.

Yep. I would argue that it's more harmful walking across a crowded parking lot, breathing in the exhaust fumes from vehicles that are coming and going.

.

It's like anything else.............If you look hard enough, I'm sure you can find a "study" to support your cause.

Extreme PDA's. A kiss, a hug, holding hands. These are all fine. But when you decide to make out in public, get a room already. I don't want to see how far you can shove your tongue down someone's throat nor do I want to see how much butt you can grab!

Oh my, this thread turned into a real hit. In a weird, gross way, I really like it.:thumbsup2

Shouldn't post...shouldn't post.....

Okay, can't resist, my peeve is not one where I could look away...I was trapped.

I was sitting on crowded bus one day next to a rather large woman. Nothing against her being large, except that she kept invading my space, so to speak, and she had NOT SHAVED HER LEGS! The more I tried to move away from her, the more she invaded my space. The seat on my other side was occupied, and there were folks standing - so there was no place for me to go to make it stop. She sat down after I did. The whole way her stubble was scouring my leg! and she was oozing sweat to boot! The part of her thigh that was up against me that wasn't stubbly was wet with sweat.

Then when she left, well, I kid you not, there was a puddle of body fluids on the seat! I know the puddle was not her fault, (at least I don't think so...if it was sweat) but it was still a bit of an icky reminder for the duration of the trip.

Buthe part that stays with me is the sensation of that prickly stubble abrasing me.pirate:

OK...that is gross. (walks away hanging my head in shame) The sad part is that she must know that is what is happening. How could you not? She must have to be in constant denial just to go out in public.:sad2:

posted abt breastfeeding, then noticed it had already been addressed... edited to delete...
no trolls here!!! lol

to redirect..
some things that gross me out are certainly the diaper thing..booty shorts gross me out..people who burp..garbage on the ground..spitting..all that.thankfully i dont see it much.
the money in the water oddly grosses me out..tells me that the water isnt clean..
the tap water grosses me out..stagnant ponds gross me out..
and this isnt AT wdw, but it still grosses me out.
once the seatbelt light goes off, there is a mad dash for the potty.even a line sometimes.its a two hour flight, people..and u just got on!!??

Why is it gross to use the restroom? If you gotta go, you gotta go. I think NOT going to the restroom when you need to can be much more gross.

The only time I was ever really grossed out was a visit during love bug season. I know they are harmless to people but they were everywhere. It was so bad one afternoon at the WL pool, I had to go inside. And I think turkey legs looks a bit gross.

Other gross things like wet toilet seats and the like happen everywhere so I don't consider it a Disney thing.

For all of you bothered by speedos, two pieces and breasts, stay out of Europe, European owned resorts, and away from Europeans in general. The men all wear speedos, and the women, regardless of size or age, all wear two pieces, often foregoing the top.

I am paraphrasing but Bill Maher once said something like "America was founded by the Pilgrims, people that were so uptight that the British ruling class was too liberal for them."

That is a great quote. So true.....;)

I eat turkey legs but I pick the meat off.....I am absolutely, positively grossed out by people eating ANY meat right off the bone....Chicken legs, chicken wings...ewwww. I pick it off and eat it and leave about 1/4" of meat on the bone because the brown color that rubs off on the meat makes me want to vomit. I CANNOT watch my family (or anyone else) eat meat off bones. DH always makes fun of me for "wasting" so much meat.

Unflushed toilets....seriously? Is it that hard? I understand when it's a child, really I do, but there is NO excuse for an adult not to flush. I was at the casino last week. You have to be 21 to get in and I had to walk into 3 different stalls to find one flushed without dribbles. EWWW!

Unbathed children, especially babies. Older kids get dirty and gross. I understand. My kids can have a bath and 10 minutes after playing outside be filthy and disgusting, but your 8 month old is not walking around getting dirty. They are dirty from not being bathed. Poor kids.... And along the same lines, definitely change the diaper. I cannot imagine the horrible diaper rash some of these kids must have.

You had better duck now! There was a poster just a few days ago who dared comment on how some children looked really hot at WDW and she pretty much got clobbered for daring to think that some parents were not paying their kids close enough attention. :sad2:

You apparently cannot comment on other people's kids, even if you are concerened about what you saw, without having hellfire rain down on you

As for just smelling the smoke "too bad" comment - I just want to say that while I do find the smell disgusting, I am also allergic and that whiff of smoke will make me have an allegic reaction.

I know that this is going to sound mean and uncaring but here's the deal. Your allergies are yours and yours alone. The world cannot be expected to take anything but reasonable measures to accommodate your problems. Designated smoking areas are a reasonable and in many ways extreme measure to make your stay pleasant but they cannot do it all, nor should they be expected too.

Those that do not stay in the designated area should be dealt with by authorities within the parks. If they don't then complaints should be made. Those that do what is asked should not be made to feel that they have caused you harm because you were not watching out for yourself and you didn't avoid the areas. There aren't many of them in the parks to avoid, it should be simple. Remember you are the one that gets the reaction not them.

I had a leg injury late last year year that left me with a minor but permanent disability. I have a real problem on stairs going up, but mostly down. Uneven pavement can catch me by surprise and drop me to the ground. Still, that is my problem. I must be ever alert to the dangers that affect me uniquely. If I had an allergy to smoke I would do what is necessary to avoid the smoke. It is not the smokers problem it is yours. It is not anyone's problem that I have a hardship with uneven ground so, I will not demand that everything be flat and level because I might fall.

It is just a matter of time before smoking will be banned everywhere in this country, in the meantime perhaps compromise is called for.

I think this was very well put.
There aren't many DSAs in the parks, or at the resorts.
I am trying to quit smoking, and it is not an easy task. I can't tell you how many times a non-smoker will come sit in a DSA and complain that people are smoking.
That is what those areas are for, and smokers should stick to them.
But to complain that people are smoking in a DSA is like complaining that people are eating in a restaurant.
Yes I know some people have asthma, and allergies, but you can try to avoid those areas.
If you see someone smoking outside a DSA, contact the nearest CM (preferably one who is not manning a kiosk at the time, because they would most probably be more limited in what they can do)
