Things that everyone seems to love but you hate??

Lost Boys.....Mmmmm.....To me, Keifer Sutherland is still the hottest and sexiest Teen-aged vampire ever.....yesssss.

he definatly did make one good-looking teen vampire!

i've always liked the whole vampire thing tho. i liked him, i liked Spike and Angel from Buffy(and someone on here thought that Edward from Twilight was "weird and too old" or something for Bella....well i'm pretty sure Angel was even older than Edward and going after a teenage Buffy, no one said boo about that), Henry from Blood Ties, Damon from Vampire Diaries, Lestat from the Vampire Chronicles.

but then again...all of those ones i've mentioned actually killed people and were "scary" so....lol

i just have a question.

for all of these things that you "hate" have you actually tried them?

like with the Harry Potter/LOTR/Twilight stuff have you actually watched/read them all? because saying "i hate it" when you haven't even watched/read them...idk....

and the same with food. have you tried sushi or seafood? same diff. because i can understand if you tried these things and didn't like them.

i tried watching True Blood, didn't like it.

tried listening to Adam Lambert and didn't like him.

tried reading the Bourne books and didn't like them, either.

tried watching maybe an episode here and there of one of the CSI or NCIS's and didn't care for them. tried to watch a game of football, i think i actually fell asleep.

or maybe is it just the "hype" that you hate? i know some of you said you tried, but some of you haven't mentioned and i'm just curious.

I have read every word of all 4 Twilight books and seen the 1st movie. Ignoring the whole anti-feminist-I-need-a-man-to-think-for-me/to-live-for- vibe, they are just poorly written and edited. Actually they get worse as the series progresses. I didn't see the 2nd movie because I can't stand the thought of giving Stephenie Meyer and her victorian-vamp-mormon beliefs one more penny.

Harry Potter, on the other hand, I adore. J.K. Rowling should retire to a cave for prayer and fasting every time she is favorably compared to that adverb abuser Meyer. It makes me sad to think that a whole generation of kids are growing up with these books as examples of literature.

:worship: You said it much better than I could have! :thumbsup2

..and Adam Lambert...right there with you. but only for the fact that i can't stand his voice and i think he's got an attitude problem and comes across as fake. it has nothing to do with him being "offensive" or whatnot. i've seen worse things on cable tv than anything he's done.

...well, he ain't no DC, THAT'S fer sure....;)

I can see why they offer it as a prize. NYC has a lot of things that are historical such as the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and the Empire State Building. There are also the broadway plays. Those things are what would draw me to NYC. I've only been once but would like to go back again.

Like you though, I'd go to WDW over NYC. :goodvibes

That's true. I do think NYC has a lot to offer in terms of cultural, educational ... um, things. Haha. We've always gone to the best field trips while growing up like the American Museum of Natural History and Ellis Island (of course, as kids, we would've preferred to just go to an amusement park or the zoo or something).

And as for Broadway plays? That's one of NYC's best offered activities, IMO. Disney on Broadway is especially fantastic! So yes, NYC does have stuff to offer. I guess I just don't understand walking around the city to "see" stuff ... you know how people just want to "see" Times Square? I can't deal with the masses. Can't take a leisurely walk!

I feel the same way about Boston...have lived just outside of Boston my entire life and can't figure out the draw of visiting the city. Personally, I think it's pretty boring. Everytime someone here posts a thread about what to do in Boston I can't imagine wanting to go there as a vacation destination! Give me Disney, a cruise, a beach etc, but not Boston!

Haha, that's funny because for a while, I REALLY wanted to go to Boston! I went with my cousins to visit another cousin attending BC at the time, but yeah, I guess I see what you're saying. Other than good food, we didn't know what else to do! We ended up renting movies from Blockbuster!

i've only been to NYC once and it was only for a day. and i couldn't believe how dirty it looked. in movies/tv it doesn't look that dirty but IRL it's disgusting. there's trash every where and homeless people on every corner and yep too many people for my tastes and i had some guy following me for BLOCKS until i grabbed my purse and put it infront of me. my husband says we have to go at least once more so we can see all of the sights(we never got around to it) but i'm even weary on that. it doesn't look "glamorous" to me at all...it looks disgusting.

Yeah, after walking around the city this past Sunday and taking many subways, I wanted to burn my jeans. I'm also somewhat of a germaphobe so maybe that's why NYC doesn't fit for me either.

I still am craving POMMES FRITES though!!! Haha, and I'll gladly eat all the sushi that you guys don't want :)

Gambling, although maybe if I ever won anything, I'd feel differently!

I've won something! I stayed at the Silver Legacy when I was in Reno, NV for my granny's funeral (:sad1:) and they gave me free play for staying there, I think it was $10 per night or something... anyway, I played it because why not? and I won $1200!!!

Normally, had they not given me the credit, I wouldn't have played because I just don't get gambling, like you, I don't like it. You're not going to win overall. You maaaaayyy have a lucky break like I did but there's such a huge chance you won't it's not worth it imo. I would much rather spend money on... ANYTHING else.

People always ask me why I don't like going to Las Vegas and I tell them, I don't gamble and I don't like stage shows, anything else I can do anywhere.

I just don't understand, I would rather give $500 to charity than go to a casino and blow it all away.

That's how I feel about BMW's. Especially when they constantly cut me off and drive dangerously.

Although I still enjoyed them enough to not regret reading them and I will see all the movies, I have to agree.

And I don't think we can ignore the "whole anti-feminist-I-need-a-man-to-think-for-me/to-live-for- vibe" because it's ridiculous. The books are terribly written. I'm not a writer, I only took my required WR 121 and 122 classes in college but come on, I can only read the words "shudder" or "chagrin" so many times... and what is "chagrin" anyway? I even googled it and it was hard to truly define the word. She also writes forever and ever about one thing and glosses over another thing, both of equal importance.

It doesn't help that the books are painfully predictable and since you're already convinced of what's coming, it makes it hard to read 200 pages of stuff you already know.

I finished the Twilight series before my September trip this year and was satisfied with the outcome but disappointed in that only about 3 people died the whole time... kind of lame imo. I need a literary pick up so I took Harry Potter and the Sorcorer's Stone to WDW with me to begin reading that series again, now that is a great series!

I am with you 100%. I do not take anyone seriously until they've actually tried something. I understand when people say they don't like something because it grosses them out though... i.e. I hate mushrooms, I think they're gross, I've tried them though (accidently) but if I hadn't I still hate them because they're disgusting!

But I know someone who would go on and on about hating Harry Potter until a guy she liked (who she's now engaged to and marrying in July) wanted to take her to see HP and the OOTP when it was released, he found out she hadn't read them and loaned her his books to read and she did because she liked him... turns out, she LOVED the books! She even looks a lot like Emma Watson so she dressed up as Hermoine for Halloween 2008, as did a bunch of people... dress up as HP characters, I was Cho and DFiance was Cedric. Her DFiance was Fred and his twin was George :)

I don't like seafood because it grosses me out but I've also tried it, most of my seafood tasting was at WDW in 2008 but I just didn't like it enough to overcome the grossness. I like vegetarian sushi without seaweed though but then it's just rice and vegetables which is still good but nothing exciting.

But as to the...
or maybe is it just the "hype" that you hate? i know some of you said you tried, but some of you haven't mentioned and i'm just curious.
I totally agree! People say they hate Lindsay Lohan and they don't understand why people ever hire her but then I ask them if they've ever seen her in a movie? She's actually a really good actress! A lot better than most at the least and although I'm not the biggest fan of her music and I don't love the things she does but she's a good actress.

I still will always hate LOTR with a passion, I've tried. I watched the end of number 3 and I've tried to start the series a few times but I just can't finish it... it's not my thing. But if there's a 18 inning baseball game on... I'M THERE!

The Twilight "Saga" (I even hate calling it a saga...there is only one saga and it's name is STAR WARS.)

So did not like Up. Watched it last night and fast-forwarded through the end. No way was it more entertaining than Finding Nemo. :confused3

You know... I've tried to watch it a couple of times and really like it but I can't. It's not bad and I really liked the beginning but not a lot of movies will be better than Nemo imo.

I definitely agree! From the way all the critics are talking, it's Pixar's best movie yet. It's on everyone's Top 10 list. I thought the beginning was very cute but that was about it... Just wondering where the Top 10 part came in. :confused3

The Godfather movies - didn't get the hype

The Office - tried it since a friend loves it but it just didn't do it for me

Beer and wine (mixed drinks are okay since they hide the alcohol taste)

Gambling

Meat, poultry, fish, seafood

Oh no, The Office you have to watch several times before you get it. I didn't watch it for years except one here and there and all of a sudden it clicked with me. Now I save every episode that comes on and adore it!!

OmG I just did a search to see what they look like and I'm SHOCKED!!! EEEyuk!!!!

Do you mean to tell me that with all of your years here on the Dis you have never seen one of those hideous bags?
