band also takes more mental ability, especially when you are marching. playing memorized notes along with accidentals, key changes, and slurs can be tough. all the time when you have to memorize 100+ steps, and making sure you do that in order. i have played football, it is more physically tolling, but band is more mentally tolling.

...which makes me glad I don't play a band instrument xD

You know what I think is ridiculous?
In the summer I went to see a horse advertised as 100% safe, suit complete novice (which I am not, I am a competent rider). It was advertised at £3,500. Well said horse threw me off (and being a competent rider it takes a lot to get me off) and I consequently broke my wrist.
The first part that annoys me? The people tried to blame me and accused me of upsetting their horse even though they could cleary see i'd done nothing as they'd watched it happen. They didn't say sorry or offer any help at all. They never sent a text after to ask if my wrist was ok which I thought was just plain rude considering the lady who's horse we went to see the day before sent us an apology because her horse played up and we decided not to even get on it.
The next part? Well on returning from our holiday we went back to looking for horses online and found crazy horse that threw me off re-advertised at £1,500 for a competent rider with YOU WILL NEVER FIND A SAFER OR MORE SENSIBLE RIDE. 100% bomb proof real confidence giver.

I have a thing or two to say about that.
That to me is just ridiculous.

i think that its ridiculus that i cant go on a SCUBA/snorkel trip, only missing 2 days, because i apparently im going to miss too many other days of school, so now im super bummed.

1. Why in the hell does school put so much towards band but nothing to sports? We have "posture changing" chairs, brand spanking new, but our field hockey team hasn't gotten new uniforms in 12!!! years.

2. Why isn't the school doing anything about being on corrective action? We are so far behind it ain't funny.

Well..sometimes the money may be split up evenly.

I mean, whatever we have in our band room thats new, is what we fund raised to buy. *For example, last year we raised a ton of money to go on a trip but ended up not going, so we used the money to buy new chimes*

Im not sure how your school works, but if its the same bank account that gave the band posture chairs that would give the football team uniforms, then I agree..thats just ridikerous!

But the gym is still junkie!
And our equipment isn't much better!

At our school, they get THOUSANDS of merchandise for computers, audio, techiie stuff, ect.
They wont buy us new chairs.
CHAIRS.
Their not that expensive!
Believe it or not, some people in chorus have to sit on the ground because there aren't enough seats.

Also, the teachers tell us to recycle, use less paper, and to help with the environment.
My teacher smokes.
She won't buy a friggin FIVE DOLLAR, PLASTIC recycling bin, and, she gives us tens of pages of homework a NIGHT.

How the freak is that "saving the world" ?

That was..odd, but true. Even though it kinda meant I want less homework..

At our school, the only club they let sixth graders join in is Math team.
And that is social suicide.
Seventh graders are BEGGING to let some sixth graders into our clubs.

Our school system sucks. Bad.

I think its horrible to say that band members are "Mentally superior" to football players.. Some people aren't allowed to play in band because their parents can't afford to replace an instrument if the child breaks it. Some people are music illeterate as well. That doesn't mean they are stupid.

Totally agree, those comments really irked me.

I'm not personally an athelete, but to say that 'jocks' are 'stupid' is ridiculous!
being in band =/= mentally superior to athletes.
75% of the lacrosse/football/soccer team members @ my HS are now in university.




I think it's ridiculous how much $$$ I spend on booster juice now that they have one on campus!! (i cant control myself!!)

I also think it's REALLY ridiculous how a booster juice on campus costs $1 more than a booster juice off campus!!

I also think it's ridiculous how I get 5 shifts a week @ work, WHILE I have a full university courseload, but the HS kids, who have all the free time in the world get 2 shifts!!!!

I also think it's ridiculous how aren't smart enough/are too lazy to check movie times before they come to the theatre and then decide to yell at ME when they movie they want to watch isn't playing for another 2 hrs!
On top of that I think it's ridiculous that I get yelled at over movie prices, yeah because I decided to make it $12 for you to see a movie....it's aaaall going in MY pocket. Get real.

I didnt say that *I know who did* but I agree.

Except, the one thing that my county does that I absolutely adore is..


You take band if you want it.

If you dont have the money to rent a horn, you fill out a free and reduced lunch form. Makes the instrument 12 dollars the entire year.

Along with a horn for home.

Then at the end of the year *or when youve stopped playing* then you just return it to our band room.


I know I use a rental horn.
Im not on free and reduced, but I use them. Theyre really nice too. A horn for me is like...5000 and up...so..obviously my parents arent gonna just go buy me a horn.

So we rented one for 92 dollars the entire year.

Not bad, considering where the money goes.

Studys show that the people who are in band *and actually pay attention* do better on the state tests.


Im not sure what they mean about sports, but people who play sports are NOT stupid.

Plus, band geeks are NOT smarter then the sport freaks.

Its all depending on what you do for your grade in class.

I know a ton of people who go to my high school, get AMAZING football/basketball scholarships.

Many of those "dumb football players" at my school are in honors/AP and/or almost done with their credits halfway thru junior year.

It's completely riddiculous to not let me join YEA Club because I'm a smart aleck. It's a life style choice.
