Things I wish I knew BEFORE I bought into The Villas at Disneyland Hotel

1) Step 1: Open a brokerage account online
2) Step 2: Link it to your bank account
3) Step 3: Transfer money to the brokerage account instead of buying a gift card (it will likely default to a government money market, you don’t have to do anything special).
4) Step 4: Watch your money pay your interest every month.
5) Step 5: Transfer money back to your bank account when the target bill is due from your gift card purchases in December
6) Step 6: Repeat every year except you don’t have to ever do Step 1 and 2 again!

Step 1 is the one that seems too overwhelming to me. I wouldn't even know which to choose.

Isn’t this gen z though? Two generations removed? Us millennials are like 40 and some even have back pain and stuff.

"Vibe" is 100% a Gen Z thing!

Calling gen z “millennials, is something gen x’ers do. Sorry! 😢

Is this karma for being guilty of what my gen z daughters do? They call me and DW “boomers”!

Things I wish I knew BEFORE I bought into The Villas at Disneyland Hotel

Back on thread, we bought into VDH eyes wide open.

We knew about the ToT but recognized it was percentage wise less than what folks pay for taxes on cash stays at Disneyland hotel. Plus, we're not obligated to use our VDH points at Disneyland. Will be using those points next year at Poly or BLT with no ToT to be paid.

DW loves the Disney theming at VDH. That's what she wants when we do a trip to Disneyland and the park that Walt first build. As for WDW, maybe not so much. It doesn't quite have a warmth and charm Disneyland does. We do love WDW for different reasons.

The only eyes wide open bait and switch moment would be if we knew going in that they would a) cancel early entry b) remove the Pixar DCA entrance for Disney hotel guests. Grrr.... Is it a huge saving on dollars to us to lose those perks? No. It is, however, two perks we talked about before buying. One could argue to skip buying VDH, rent out WDW points, and save money staying at a close by good neighbor hotel if there's no more early entry benefit.

The Disney Forward that's coming (many many many years from now) will I believe make VDH a more desired location. Let's see. Lots of things have to happen such as VDH area to park entrance gate, enticing wonderful rides, etc.

As for price, our direct entry point is about the same or not much higher than the few resale contracts. Once the room declarations % increases (come on sales) then I think we'll be fine to exit and recoup our initial cash outlay. Not planning to do that but sometimes things change.

For me, I don't have the mental bandwidth to figure out all the money market stuff. Investment/money stuff just goes right over my head. But buying a gift card from Target once a month is easy for me and takes no bandwidth. 😁
Same here so thank you so much for the gift card suggestion to pay ToT, would never have thought of it! Also I think buying monthly gift cards right now for me would be great to think ahead of time!

I haven't gotten a dues bill yet as I just bought all my contracts this year and it would be nice to be ahead of the game!

I know this has probably been answered a million times but if I want to pay my dues with gift cards, does it have to be paid all at once or can I do monthly payments with gift cards or whenever I have some extra gift cards can i throw them towards the amount owed?

I pay ahead with gift cards. You can't do automatic monthly payments with the cards, but you can pay ahead. I have to choose a contract and it'll say balance due $0., but you can still make a payment. Select New Card and the option for a Disney gift card comes up. Enter the information and it'll show your balance is now $-500.(Or whatever you paid).

Oh ok so if I have my debit card set up for automatic monthly payments I can still use Disney gift cards to pay off more in between debit card payments?

I think this used to be allowed but isn't anymore. I can't recall all the specifics, but I think you used to able to do auto pay and then go ahead and pay with gift cards instead of making your monthly auto-pay payment, but I don't think you can do that anymore. I think the only way to pay with gift cards in advance is to have all of your dues fully paid off and then you can pay ahead with gift cards. That's what I've been doing with my dues. I think the alternative is to set aside your gift cards and then you can use them to pay off as much of your dues as you can when you get the bill in January.

So in other words, I better get to it 🤣🤣

So im assuming if you don't have autopay setup then you can do the gift cards when you want, but you wont get the autopay discount?

What happens if you prepay half of them in gift cards now that theyre all paid off, would you not be eligible for debit card autopay starting January?

Are they going to mail me something with how to setup autopay and how this works? 😅
