This show just fascinates me. Did you see the episode where the young couple purchased one of those tiny houses and then ended up actually having to build a shed (larger than their house) to store all their stuff?

I don't understand why so many forget their children (and pets) in hot cars. I just don't remember this being a thing when I was a kid.

On that same note, I also don't remember dressers falling on children being a thing either? Were our dressers that much heavier or were we all outside climbing trees?

I'm sure these kind of accidents always happened to some extent, but you didn't hear about them as much because we weren't inundated with media like now. It is really sad that kids left in cars, and also kids drowning in pools, come up in the news as frequently as they do, every summer.

I think young kids probably spend more time in the car than in the past, riding to day care and scheduled activities. Parents work more hours and generally have busier, more stressful lives. Of course none of that is an excuse. When I was growing up, car seats didn't exist and parents would often hold babies and toddlers. Hard to forget them when they're sitting on your lap.

Or why you can get arrested for leaving your dog in the sweltering car but not if you forget your baby in the car.

Actually there are laws that specifically address leaving children unattended in cars, in numerous states, including CA, FL, TX, PA, and IL. In other states, depending on the circumstances, you could be arrested for child endangerment or neglect.
