Some of you might remember my "venting" back in late August about my DD's experience with soccer tryouts, when she as a junior was "passed over" for a sophomore for the Varsity goalkeeper spot. here's the thread
ANYWAY, just wanted to report that tonite was the annual Soccer Booster's Club Awards Night/Ice Cream Social. The Freshman, JV and Varsity coaches for girls and boys recap their seasons, give awards, seniors are recognized, etc.
I'm proud to report that as a co-captain of the JV team, DD did a wonderful job asssisting with her team's thank-you presentation to their coach and also thanked all the parents
for supporting the team all season. The girls's JV coach spoke glowingly of how her team, led by the co-captains, was the best "team" in spirit that she has ever coached. They organized team dinners EVERY single week, supported each other with none of the cattiness or pettiness that seems to occur when you have a group of teenage girls on a team. They had a 6-7-2 season and had their best showing ever in the JV tournament (1-1-1). Then she gave awards -- and DD got the "Best Defensive Player" Award with lots of whooping and cheering from her teamates and specific mentions of "unbelievable saves" in several games
(The Varsity girls had a 4-11-0 season and not nearly as much FUN as the JV team
)
DD's boyfriend got the "Rookie of the Year" award on the Boy's Varsity team, so all in all it was a great evening for us.
She's still saying that she's not going to try out next year, that she wants to put the time into other activities in her senior year, so I think it was probably her last high school soccer event. I'm feeling kind of bittersweet about it, but very proud of her and how the whole season worked out.
Thanks for listening!
