Things Disney Offers But Doesn't Advertise *Summary Added Oct 08*

How about the flag raising in the MK. Is this something as a guest I can make a request to do?

They do a flag lowering ceremony and if a guest is a veteren then you can inquire at guest services to do this. I would suggest going early in the trip and asking about it. DH did this (He is Army) and it is a great ceremony. Here are some pics.

Even after being there quite a few times, I'm always amazed at how many little details slip my mind, or things that I never knew in the first place. Taking my 16yo GD for the first time in Oct, and I'm making my list with all of these great ideas!!!
Thanks!

Two things come to mind,

1. Miyuki(the candy lady) in Japan at Epcot. She makes these amazing animals from a type of candy. You can choose one from a list she has and take it with you for free. Even though She is listed in the park map, many guests do not know about her.

2. Like wise for the various street performers in MGM studios, sorry, Hollywood studios now. The times are not listed in the park guide, but was able to get them at the info booth by the attraction update board. My favorites are the public works guys and a police officer that stands in the middle of Sunset Boulevard giving guests a hard time(in a jokeing way).

Thanks, DH is a Navy Vet. I already had a flag flown over the Capitol in D.C. and though it would be great to do this in Disney. I assume they let you keep the flag. From you pictures it looks like they give you a certificate also.

I will look into to this th eday we check in.

The first person down the slide at the Boardwalk pool becomes "clown for the day". They receive a certificate, a clown wig, big clown glasses, and a bag of small trinkets. My kids thought this was really cool!:grouphug:

How cool is that! What moving pictures. I literally have tears in my eyes just from viewing the pics! Can't imagine me there!

Do you need to bring along a DD214 or something to prove he's a vet? DH was in for 18 years....civilian injury forced him to get Honorable Discharge so we lost out on retirement benefits (so no ID card...and worse, no commisary, lol, but I digress). It was a very difficult time for him....serious life threatening injury and then not allowed to reup....not sure which hurt more to him......but in his heart he is a lifetime solider. I'd love to arrange for him to get to do this, but wouldn't want to go unprepared.

Wow! You have a DD214? That must be a record! Wait . . . You're talking about a form, not a "dear daughter," aren't you? Sorry!

They do something similar to this at the WL, but it wasn't the first person down the pool.

The slide opens at 10a. We were at the pool earlier than that. The lifeguard asked DS5 is he wanted to be sheriff for the day. They gave him a badge a cowboy hat, photo and certificate. He was allowed to be the first one down the slide "to make sure it was save from the bad guys", then when he lands in the water, give the thumbs up sign, the life guards blow their whistles and say "slide's safe everyone". Then the slide is open for the day. DS was also in charge of making sure no one was running on the deck. A responsbility he took a bit too seriously. :rotfl:

If I could get Jack Sparrow to my room, it wouldn't be for no stinkin' massage. Savvy?pirate: :rotfl:
