Things Disney Offers But Doesn't Advertise *Summary Added Oct 08*

what's funny is you have the only correct spelling even though you don't know what it is?

imagination + engineer = imagineer. someone who works behind the scenes on attractions/show and the like at disney

Thanks bradk, so I guess dinner with an Imagineer would include little-known facts and information. Something I can see my hubby being very interested in. :yay:

there's dinner at artist point and lunch at hollywood brown derby. no telling who you'll get but i heard requests can be made? just that you're with other people as well. i don't know the schedule, but i think like dinner is every other thursday or something like that.

Thats very handy considering we're staying at WL!! Another reason it sounds like something we may like to request. Taking notes furiously :rotfl: !!

My favorite thing in Disney, The electrical water pagent, is an under-advertized treasure. Its one thing that hasn't changed significantly since my first visit in 1979! You can catch it around the seven seas lagoon usually an hour before Wishes.

I think that this is a great thread. And am really enjoying reading all about the great things that can be done while at WDW.:thumbsup2

To be more exact, Imagineers are the men and women who design the attractions, shows, etc. There are MANY, MANY people who work behind the scenes on attractions, etc. that are not Imagineers.

From Wikipedia (from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney_Imagineering#Imagineers No link as the system won't let me post links until I have a higher post count):
An Imagineer (officially known as a Walt Disney Imagineer), is an employee of Walt Disney Imagineering, or any other employee of The Walt Disney Company given that title. Nearly all Imagineers work at the corporate headquarters in Glendale, California developing ideas and attractions for Disney parks. During the construction of a major project, Imagineers sometimes are deployed to work on-site for six months to a year.

Imagineers come in all forms; artists, writers, architects, landscape architects, engineers, model builders, construction managers, technicians, designers and a whole range of others.

-Animal Kingdom Lodge offers several free programs that are really geared at adults and older children: They give a guided tour of the hotel's African art collection at 2 PM, a Culinary Tour of Africa at 4 (in which you get to meet the chefs at Jiko and Boma, and eat free samples! Great if you want to learn more about the food before you actually eat there), and a Cultural Safari at 9 PM led by an African cast member, who tells you about their homeland.

Is this open to anyone. My DS is a culinary arts student and would love to meet the chefs. I'll have call AKL today since we leave tomorrow.
Thanks for the ideas....

This is an amazing thread!!

I got back from my 1st trip to WDW a couple of weeks ago and it's thanks to the DisBoards that we did so many fun things that are not advertised in the parks and were hints and tips from people on here!!

Waking up Tink in Tinkerbell's Treasures was one of my favourite moments of our trip....

Sunbscribing so I can add as I remember tips and pick up more for December 2008!!

Forgive me if this was already mentioned, I only got up to page 6 and don't have time to get to the end right now, but wanted to mention the CM badges.
At DTD at the Christmas shop, you can get personalized CM badges (colors are reversed from official ones) my kids got them the first yr and wore them every day. The CM's at rides & resteraunts greeted my kids by name and they got such a kick outa that! Pretty cool and way short money (like $5 or so)

If you dine at Whispering Canyon, have someone in your family ask for Ketchup. It's so funny what will happen next!!!!

Also at Whispering Canyon, the kids get to ride wooden stick horses around the restaurant during the meal and can build with Lincoln Logs while you wait for your table.

If it is your Birthday, Anniversary or Honeymoon, Go to Guest Services to get a free special pin for your special day.
When CM's see your pin, you're usually treated in a wonderful way!

Many of you know this, but some may not. When going to Epcot with the children, you can buy a Passport booklet. This is something fun for them to do when you travel to each country. It comes with a pin, stickers for each country's page and the CM's in each country will stamp it and sometimes write something on it, in their language.

They do sell it at Epcot, but here's an image of it from the LaughingPlaceStore. I think at Epcot it's around $10.

The still do the mask making at each country's craft station, but for my older kids, the Passport worked better.
And gosh I wish they'd get a new craft every now and then. They've been doing those masks for at least 10 years!

Celebrating a wedding, honeymoon or Anniversary at Grand Floridian restaurants?

We dined at 1900 Park Fare for our 5th Anniversary last year and I had called ahead and ordered a miniature wedding cake for $25. It was about the size of 2 cupcakes and incredibly yummy and beautiful!

The Grand Floridian bakery makes them, so if you aren't dining at GF, you can call and order it, then pick it up.

Okay after sitting here for 20 mins and reading everyone's awesome's hints, here's one for you.

IN MGM there is a man called Andy Mation. He wears a yellow painter's coat with black Mickey heads on it. He's usually around Playhouse Disney area. He makes the most AMAZING balloon characters - for free!! Yes for FREE! However he only makes one every half hour and he selects who he gives it to. While he makes the character he gives a bio about the character - some never known facts. I've seen him make Belle, Snow White holding an apple, Stitch as a hat, a Buzz Lightyear backpack, he made my daughter Pluto with a walking stick. YES THIS IS ALL OUT OF BALLOONS!! I don't know if he's still there, but he's amazing and definitely worth watching, just like the candy lady in China at Epcot.

EPCOT - don't forget the getting a pearl out of the oyster! My dd's birth stone is pearl and we got a 'big' one last time - they banged the drum - she had no idea what was going on. However the settings are reasonable, we had it put into a caged pendant.

MK - Make sure you ride Aladdin's carpets so the camel can spit at you.

Oh and for the member who said she goes running to the SITR Umbrella excitedly that it's there -- ME TOO! I get my picture there everytime we go. Once it was in Janaury and it was 'cold' for the locals (hello we're from MA 50s is spring) and I stepped on the stone and it rained and the people walking by got a little cool spray. I just smiled and said GOOD MORNING!! I'M SINGING IN THE RAIN!:rolleyes1

He has done the surfing and told me that the wave pool on a normal day operates at about 40% of it's potential. When they do the surfing they crank it up all the way and can even customize the type of wave they want to come out. Sounds way cool to me.

Not sure if anyone touched on this yet because I haven't made it all the way through, but I think it's about $125-$150 and it's before the park opens (probably 7 or 8am.) It was actually featured on a program called "Undiscovered Walt Disney World" you should look for!

I'm pretty sure I read all the posts which, as usual, are cool :cool1: . One neat thing I didn't see mentioned are the stretch (or pressed) pennies and quarters. They're a lot of fun for anyone to collect, and the machines are ALL OVER the place   . My kids have 2 books filled with them :sad1: , so I think they be moving on to some other collectible - such as the trading cards from the bus drivers!!!:cheer2: I NEVER knew there was such a thing until I read it on this site. :woohoo: Keep up the neat tips:dance3:
