Things Disney Offers But Doesn't Advertise *Summary Added Oct 08*

Try copy and paste. Then print later!:flower3:

For my favorite tips, I copy from here and paste it right on to my Word doc itinerary.
MK tips, go right to the top of July 22 - MGM tips, go to July 24.

I do one page for each day, ADR numbers and times, tips, etc. Problem is I have so much info gather, that I'm down to a 9 font, I really don't want to go to 2 pages, nor do I want to make a smaller font. :lmao:

My dad was Veteran of the Day on Feb 1 of this year, did have the band, but no doves. It was terrrific. Did find out that the band's appearance is weather dependent....when we arrived at the flag pole for my dad's cerermony it had just stopped raining and they were checking to see if the band would be coming out. Thank goodness the skies cleared and out they came. Very cool.

Dad also got a special certificate and a "cannot buy this anywhere" "Veteran of the Day" pin as well as a certificate that we could redeem for a free 5x7 photo of the 20-30 pictures the Disney photographer took during the ceremony. They posed the whole family for photos afterwards with Dad holding the folded flag and Mom holding his certificate. They also will load all of the pics onto a photopass for you, so you can select others later if you wish.

If you are interested, check in at city Hall the first day of your vacation and ask if there are any openings during your stay. This was a surprise for my Dad and everyone agreed that it was the highlight of the trip, so I would have forgone dining reservations or anything else to be a part of the wonderful experience. They make sure that family is positioned just to the left of the flag pole, so you have a perfect view of everything. We took tons of pictures as well as video. I even snuck my Dad's Navy baseball cap (the one with his ship on it) and had it in my back pack so he could wear it for the ceremony. :thumbsup2

The folks who run this program are the best. Dave, go for it you are a vet!!!

Do you need to bring along a DD214 or something to prove he's a vet? DH was in for 18 years....civilian injury forced him to get Honorable Discharge so we lost out on retirement benefits (so no ID card...and worse, no commisary, lol, but I digress). It was a very difficult time for him....serious life threatening injury and then not allowed to reup....not sure which hurt more to him......but in his heart he is a lifetime solider. I'd love to arrange for him to get to do this, but wouldn't want to go unprepared.

My understanding is that all of the "kid cruises" are pretty much the same. We did the Pirates cruise from the GF with our boys, they loved it. Since it is only a couple hours in length, we picked a resort we wanted to eat brunch at and explore, the GF was awesome for that.

Just something simple to pass along...

If you are in AK and go to the Tamu Tamu ice cream - you can get a rootbeer float with a souvenier (sp?) pluto straw/spoon combo. The float is also a snack credit if you are on DDP.

You get the same straw/spoon device if you buy a frozen lemonade at the fruit vendor in Africa. They cannot give you a regular straw (to protect the animals) so this, along with a dollar price increase, is their answer.

What do you mean by free internet access? Bring along your laptop and wi-fi in....or there are a few computers there to check your email and send a few (and is there usually lines?). I'm going to have to have access to my email (work never stops, lol)....but was hoping to find somewhere onsite that I could wifi in every couple days and do my thing instead of paying $10 a day for access. My other alternative is I'm nearly ready to get a new cell phone and I just might get the smartphone with Internet Access so I don't have to lug my laptop with me on weekend excursions, lol.

Im not sure if he answered it yet but there are laptops on each table by the cheesecake factory. The service is slooow and it auto logs you off every fifteen minutes or so, but you can access web sites and email, as well as send disney postcards to your family and friends. One of the reasons why I continue to go, that and the free arcade:woohoo:

:rotfl: This is one of my favorite things to do with the pictures you can email from Epcot (Imagination, Mission: Space, any others?).
My first thoughts onthis thread was hmm....discovering things is what makes it magic...but thenI kept reading...

There are also free pics you can send from Mexico -it's in the far corner of the Kidcot area inside the Mexico pavillion. It makes it look like you are sending a postcard from Mexico

A long time ago, they had old time 'movie' flipperbook machines in the gift shops on Main St. I haven't seen them for a long time, but someone recently posted that they can still be found in the train station/locker area. I'll be looking for them on my next trip.

This is now called Woody's Roundup with Woody and Jess. They still do the Hokey-Pokey.

Nope, it's VERY similar to that, but Woody's Roundup is advertised on the Times Guide and I believe they do it a few times per day. The thing with Brer Rabbit and the Country Bears is not on the Times Guide and I think it's only once per day, if they even still do it. In January, we saw both on the same day!

Also forgot to mention, it might be obvious but there are 3 different areas to view animals at AKL. We only found one of them the first time we went. The area by the pool is a little more hidden and you can see (and hear) flamingos and giraffes. Check it out before a GREAT meal at Jiko or Boma!

I was just going to post about this! Actually the machine makes a video...there are a couple different scenarios you can choose from. Dh picked the cliff diver, I picked dancing marionettes. It then superimposes your head onto the body of the cliffdiver (or the marionette) and makes a funny clip with silly music. It was hilarious! We emailed them all over the place. Unfortunately the video is only valid for 90 days, then they remove the link.

awsome thread! i cant wait to go back to disney and try all these things out!

First I want to apologize if this post is in the wrong place.

We are a family of four (my parents, my brother (20) and myself (24), and we are currently planning a Disney Wold trip for June 2008. We have to plan in advance because it's very difficult to get four adults on the same schedule for seven days. We are planning on doing the Platinum Package because we want the ability to do anything on our vacation. I'm the one planning the trip so I've been reading the boards.

One thing that caught my eye was, "Dinning With An Imangineer". I own four small bussiness and the last month I've been reading Disney books about customer service, how Disney runs their company, and some books by Disney Imangeers. I went to the Disney website to get more information about this special meal, and I really couldn't find anything. So I decided to call Disney. I asked the lady if there was such a meal still offered. She said yes, and the reason I couldn't find anything about it was because Disney doesn't advertise the meal, it's all word of mouth. So this got me thinking. What else does Disney offer that isn't advertised?

We know about the tours and water sports and golfing. But are there special things (like the meal with the imangeer) that only a few know about? I've been reading these boards for over a year, and I know that there are a lot of people that know a lot about Disney, so I thought I would ask. :earsboy:

Kris :-)
