Things Disney Offers But Doesn't Advertise *Summary Added Oct 08*

We did Alice's Tea Party on Easter. It was great. They had a looooong table set up with cups, plates, etc. Each child got some lemonade and a cookie and were visited by Alice, Tweedle Dee and Dum, and the Mad Hatter. (I think the rabbit was there, too). They made their rounds around the table and were available for a group photo at the end. I think the kids got certificates, too.

Does this happen everday? Do you know what time it is on or is it something we should pre-book

On the FoodNetwork special about Disney Weddings the host (Sandra Pinckney sp?) mentions a reception/rehearsal dinner at ToT. I have never seen or heard anything else about this. Maybe she said the wrong attraction. Anyone know?

I gathered some great info. I am going to use on my next trip from this thread :) :) Keep it coming~!!

Yes, this can be done! Unless it has changed, you don't actually get to eat dinner inside the TOT, it is in an area set off from the gift shop. I don't think that would be that interesting. Inside TOT...now THAT would be amazing!

DO THEY STILL DO THIS???!!! :yay:

My DW and I had experienced this years ago and it was, indeed wonderful!
I didn't think they did the whole ceremony anymore. You mention the MK band ... I thought they were gone! They were always a favorite. Do they still release the doves?
Any info. would be appreciated ...

Thanks!

Dave

My dad was Veteran of the Day on Feb 1 of this year, did have the band, but no doves. It was terrrific. Did find out that the band's appearance is weather dependent....when we arrived at the flag pole for my dad's cerermony it had just stopped raining and they were checking to see if the band would be coming out. Thank goodness the skies cleared and out they came. Very cool.

Dad also got a special certificate and a "cannot buy this anywhere" "Veteran of the Day" pin as well as a certificate that we could redeem for a free 5x7 photo of the 20-30 pictures the Disney photographer took during the ceremony. They posed the whole family for photos afterwards with Dad holding the folded flag and Mom holding his certificate. They also will load all of the pics onto a photopass for you, so you can select others later if you wish.

If you are interested, check in at city Hall the first day of your vacation and ask if there are any openings during your stay. This was a surprise for my Dad and everyone agreed that it was the highlight of the trip, so I would have forgone dining reservations or anything else to be a part of the wonderful experience. They make sure that family is positioned just to the left of the flag pole, so you have a perfect view of everything. We took tons of pictures as well as video. I even snuck my Dad's Navy baseball cap (the one with his ship on it) and had it in my back pack so he could wear it for the ceremony. :thumbsup2

The folks who run this program are the best. Dave, go for it you are a vet!!!

the link works fine. some of the content is outdated however.

A few false thigs too:

"In Liberty Square, there is a gate around a door -- it guards a marble slab that used to be threshhold or a step at Monticello. President Jefferson actually walked on it long ago." This is not true

"Find the marker in Epcot that supposedly represents the center of WDW. (Due to land acquisitions and sales over the years since Walt purchased the original 28,000 odd acres, this marker is no longer the "center", if it ever was at one time.) Its just to the west of Innoventions West (on that path that leads straight to Living With the Land). It's a circle and it has quotations from different inventors and scientests and believe even Walt has a quotation posted there." The marker is actually the open area right in back of the Fountain.

A lot of the other info is great though:)

Great thread!!

This is in response to an old post but I have to say :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: about Goofy and Belle giving massages in the room. It's a funny image first of all, it's also funny that the husband would have gotten Belle and the wife would have gotten Goofy - maybe that's her type? ;) Anyway, for those with deep pockets out there, I do believe you can arrange for some kind of character interaction. An example would be that Mickey and Minnie attended our wedding reception at the Living Seas Lounge for 30 minutes. They danced with us and our guests and posed for plenty of pictures (no massages though!!). The cost... currently running $1200 per HALF HOUR for the two characters. (I believe in the neighborhood of $800 for one character for the same amount of time.) As some people say, anything is possible at Disney if you have enough money.

A couple of free ideas we have:

1) We have gotten lucky a couple of times and come across a ton of characters at the "teardrop" area in the Magic Kingdom. It's an area by the train station in Toontown. It's kind of hidden but if you are riding the train, you pass by it right before the train stops in Toontown. (I think it might be a smoking area?) Anyway, we think they might be doing some kind of market research or something because what appear to be cast members in business casual clothing escorting the characters out and take pictures. Last time we found it there was a cast member videotaping. You can really get a ton of pictures with all kinds of characters, some of which are rare, with little to no wait (unless, of course, the train has just let out!) Some examples of characters we have gotten are: Pinocchio and Gepetto, Darkwing Duck and Launchpad, the three mice from Cinderella, Friar Tuck, Rafiki, Dopey, and several others. You can't ask about it at guest services b/c it's supposedly "unscheduled" but we came across it around 2. If you're in Toontown, doesn't hurt to stop by.

2) Not sure if they still do this but they used to have a hoedown featuring Brer Rabbit (my favorite in case you can't tell from my avatar!!!!) and the Country Bears where they do the hokey pokey, and some other things. While I will take any chance just to see my fave in "person", last time we came across this we got to participate (thank you wedding ears!!!) I got to square dance with Brer Rabbit! I think this occurred between 4:30 and 5 in the stretch of Frontierland where the parade first comes out. Fun to watch, even more fun to participate.

3) Someone else mentioned the talking trash can at Epcot. We have seen this in Tomorrowland as well as the area in Rafiki's Planet Watch outside the Affection Section at AK. If you look closely at the people seated nearby, you can spot the person controlling it!

the talking trash can at electric umbrella is entirely pre-recorded, but very funny. not quite up to par as Push and Pipa though (DAK also has Wes Palm)

can you explain to me where the teardrop section is? I can quite picture it.

the teardrop is past the far side of toontown. if you think about donald's boat being the end of toontown and then the path going to tomorrowland, the teardrop is a bit of a cul-de-sac of sorts just past that. facing it, it veers off to the left.

it was being used during the P&PP party, they had some games set up. i saw goofy playing the game where you throw balls to dunk someone in the tank. i might have a photo somewhere.

Is this it? If you can even tell what it is.

i can't, but that fence suggests, if that's anything in the area, it's the playground. the teardrop isn't enclosed. it's past that. owell. now i'm confused.

actually, i just brightened that photo and it doesn't even look like the playground. not sure where that is. is that by the toontown sign?

the teardrop is past the 'tomorrowland' side of toontown, by the train station area, not the fantasyland side.
