About two months ago I posted a question about who I should contact because I was having trouble making my monthly DVC payments.
I am dealing with Breast Cancer and all that goes along with it, including no work since September. I plan on going back to work in Sept when school re-opens.
Anyway, I had no income for a few months while the Long Term Disability kicked in and I wanted to hold my DVC payments for that time.
I posted here and no one had any idea, but I did call DVC and they sent me a letter to sign that gave me 3 months "rest" time where I didn't have to make payments and would not be penalized.
My dad died last year of cancer and his estate was settled so I came into some cash and brought my payments up to date with DVC and didn't have to take that 3 month hold. Being diagnosed with Cancer 3 months after my dad died was very hard, I would rather have him back than all the money in the world.
But here is my complaint about some of the IM's I receved. I won't quote or put names but now that I am feeling a little better I have to get this off my chest.
I received "offers" from people to buy my DVC for as low as $50. Yes, I own at SSR and just paid $74 but they were going to help me out by taking the contract off my hands for $50. My WLV point were less than the $74, but not much, I have only owned since 2001.
I had others offer to take my points off my hands for (yes, I did get this offer) $3 a point. I was told that I could use this money to pay my dues and not lose my DVC.
Maybe I am being a bit sensitive to these offers, but everyone knows that poits are "selling" for at least $10, I was insulted that someone would try and take advantage of my illness and offer me $3 a point, or offer to buy me out for $50 a point.
I only hope that no one has to go through cancer treatment, and that if someone comes upon hard times that others will be a little more thoughtful with how they offer to "help" Peggie

I'm glad things are improving for you! I'm very sorry to hear of all of the terrible issues you've been dealing with. I remember reading your post about your difficulties and I am shocked to hear how some people replied to you! I have noticed that there have been more and more people attacking others here lately and just not being sensitive to others. Please know that many of us understand and empathize with the insensitivity you were dealt during your crisis. I would like to believe that for every ignorant, rude person there are 100 kind, sensitive ones.

:grouphug: I hope everything remains well with your health! Best wishes!

Absolutely incredible.

Let's kick a fellow DVCer when they are down.

I am SO sorry that you had to deal with all of
this!

Good luck to you and god bless.

First of all, I would like to give you a big

Second, Im sending you my prayers and positive thoughts

Third, Im glad you got this off your chest, its awful how some people will try to benefit from others when they are down.

Take Care
Angela

Those low-ball offers were disgusting...what is the matter with people ? So sorry for your losses, but hope things start to look up. I always tell my families...I teach for a charter homeschool...that situations can only be bad for so long, then they have to take a turn for the better.

Hang in there, and don't let those folks get ya down. People often don't do as they should. And who knows, maybe some of them really thought they were doing you a favor - can't imagine that, but... There are more of us who are just thinking good thoughts and sending you prayers than those who want to take advantage of your situation. Keep that in mind and keep your chin up :umbrella:

There are a lot of really disgusting, self-centered people in this world. I am so sorry that people were so selfish and degrading in their responses to you. For all of you that did this I hope you feel really proud of yourselves.

I remember your post but had no idea of how to help you. I will tell you though that if I had offered to rent your points it sure would have been for the going rate.

So glad to hear that you were able to get things under control and that you are feeling better. Hang in there with your treatments and don't give up. Also sorry about the loss of your father. You've had a tough time lately and you deserve to have some good times!

Lots of pixie dust to you!

It is hard even reading your post. I can't imagine what it must have been like to be living it.
Pray God that some extra-special and kind people are and will be in your life to help balance out the unhappiness you have had.

I'm glad you are doing better and will pray that you have a quick and full recovery.

Jerks are jerks! Pay them no mind. They don't even deserve the courtesy of a reply.

Best wishes -

We'll pray for you and I hope things work out. And while I see your point, I don't agree with the attitude that offers you consider low are inappropriate. I didn't contact you but as with anything else for sale, there is give and take. I remember your post and intended or not, it could have been construed as an ad. If you didn't want any of the offers, just move on. Would you feel the same way if you were selling a car and someone offered you less than what you felt it was worth? All you have to say is no, or no thank you.

I am so sorry about the loss of your father and the cancer that you have been through. You'll be in my thoughts and in my prayers. Hopefully for every mean person/or person that tried to take advantage of you, there are so many others that really are kind and caring people. :grouphug:

It is nice to hear that DVC was helpful. I guess an experience like this will show you who your friends really are.....

Pixie dust on your recovery.

I am glad things are looking up for you. Sorry that others tried to take advantage of you. Surely the person who offered $50 new that Disney would have bought back at that rate. Maybe it was someone that did not realize the value of DVC on the resale market. The person that offered $3.00 could hAve at least offered the cost of dues and a little more.

Tigger

Prayers to you. Hope you beat the C.

On the point/contract offers, if they were trying to take advantage of your illness for their gain, that's a sad excuse for a human. If they were trying to make a deal to their benefit, just say no and move on.

Peace,
G4L

Sorry to hear about your illness(es) and the associated sadness. I hope you are doing much better, physically and emotionally. Wishing you many happy future trips....Johnnie

Hi Mickey,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your dad and the onset of your own cancer. Hoping you will have a complete and longterm recovery!
I remember your post, and I may have sent you an IM that you might consider renting your points in the short term by listing them on the 'Rent' board where $10 a point is considered a steal by most renters. To think that people would have swooped in, vulture like, to gain from your hardship is sad.

I am glad that you posted your feelings on this. I am also glad to hear that DVC came to the rescue...you didn't mention, but I hope they found a way to get those bank charges reversed! Glad too that you seem to be getting your spirit back, your cash reserves back, and maybe even a 'healing' vacation to WDW!

Colorado Belle

So sorry to hear about your situation. All I can offer is kind thoughts and prayers. Keep your spirits up and keep on fighting. Over time the memories of good and happy times help to fill the void of your loss. Best wishes.

I am glad to hear that you are a survivor and that DVC was willing to accoidate you in your time of need. For all that is said about DVC, it is nice to hear this type of positive news.

As for your father, I am truely sorry to hear that he has passed on. I know you will miss him greatly, and I am sure he is happy to have you in this world moving forward in life and acrrying the family honor.

As for the scum-bags you mentioned, well, sometimes I find humanity lacking. I won't get too negative about it and only say that I am glad you still have your contracts and are able to visit WDW at your lesiure.

Good luck and our thoughts are with you!

I think you should post the dirtball names of the idiots that actually sent you those Im or Emails..

Some people will do anything.

I did suggest you sell, but I never attempted to buy. I thought you might should take advantage of what appears to be an up market now. I am still concerned about your long term health both phyiscally and financially, but it sounds like you feel good about your decisions and that is the important thing. (Maybe you should post names... I wonder if these are the same poeple who complain that Disney is taking advantage of them by not meeting thier room requests LOL!)

Glad you are doing better.
