Thin walls at value resorts?

I've read quite a few complaints from guests who've stayed at Disney's value resorts that you can hear everything through the walls in the rooms. Some of the things they say they've heard are: phone conversations, toilets flushing, children playing and the TV from the room nextdoor.

We're trying to decide where to stay and this seems to be a major factor. I am a light sleeper and if we are blessed with noisy neighbors it will ruin my stay.

So please tell me your experience!

We stayed at All Star Movies in November of 2001 and it was very, very quiet. Keep in mind, that was right after 9/11 and the parks and hotels were pretty deserted. But, we had people in the room right next to us, and we never heard them.

I have read the same complaints about all levels of resorts - value, moderate and deluxe.

I personally have never had any issues with hearing too much noise from neighboring rooms.

I've stayed at Music and Sportsseveral times each, and Pop once, but I've seldom had any real problems with noise.

I'm also a very light sleeper and never been awakened by noise, although I did have trouble getting to sleep once at Sports because of a group of football players in the next room watching a game.

I suggest All-Star Music's Broadway section. It's far from the food court, bus stops, and pools, making it the most quiet and peaceful section of the resort. You won't have any trouble sleeping there at all.

It's weird that some folks would say it's too noisy the walls are thin. And some would say, never heard any noise at all.

Three factors I can think of.

*No wild children in the "neighborhood"
*The folks are so dead tired that whatever noise there is, they won't hear it.
*They are on the 4th floor and there is no foot stumping above you.

*Wild children around you.
*Light sleeper
*1st floor w/ lots of foot traffic.

2 and 3 applies to me. We usually stay on the highest floor and we're always tired when we get back to the room. Kids fall asleep as soon as they hit the bed. So to me... the "wall is thick!"

IMHO, the noise level will depend a lot on your "neighbors". I agree it can happen at any of the resorts (or any hotel/resort anywhere, for that matter)

We have heard all of the things you mentioned in your post when we stayed at the All Star Music resort and also heard people talking as they walked past our room.

We stayed on the 1st floor at ASMo and we could hear the people in the next room. I am a light sleeper but honestly I was so tired each day that it didn't bother me.

I have stayed at a value resort and a few moderate resorts and we have never had this problem. Not even during the day when we return for our nap when you might expect to hear stuff going on outside and next to your room. I must have been lucky on all my trips to WDW!

We had a horrid stay at Pop due to noise levels, and it was not loud neighbors at all - they were not rude, just doing their daily stuff. We heard their alarm go off, their toilets flush, their preschoolers talking, their door open and shut, etc. We were poolview, and that was a big mistake, as the quiet pools weren't so quiet and everything could be heard in the rooms, and you can hear people walking outside the rooms and talking. We had connecting rooms and neither room slept well.

I have stayed at WL just this week, and never even once heard a door shut. Since Pop was the last WDW resort I'd stayed at, DH and I really took note of noise levels in the room at WL to just see if it was every resort, and it was not. We've stayed at CBR in recent years without a problem, and so many hotels each year (not WDW) that I can't even count them and never had noise problems.

Pop is very very cute, great decor, etc - just cheaply made with paperthin walls. If you want to ensure a quiet area, I wouldn't go for a poolview (we didn't request anything but ended up with that) but instead maybe a lake view or something... or even just ask for a quiet area?

Many many people have come back from Pop and loved it immensely, so I encourage you to give it a shot and see what you think - you never know! =)

Bring a white noise machine or similar equipment if you are worried (we did but mostly because we use one at home). We stayed at Pop 2x... once we were in the 90's 4th floor overlooking the computer pool and only heard the occasional toilet flushing (not enough to wake any of us) and on the mornings that we slept in a bit we heard the housekeep letting the doors close VERY loudly aound us. The last time we stayed in the 50's section with a slight view of the lake (#3452) on the fourth floor and heard not 1 sound the whole stay. Wonderful!!! We would (and are planning to) stay there again (and again and again) in a heartbeat.

Believe it or not, if anything... WL is a little bit noisy for me (but I am okay with it, we stayed in the courtyard twice.) due to the balcony sliding door being open and the next door neighbor's door was open too and the teenagers right outside their balcony was making some noise, and you know that the balcony is just right next to each other. You would almost think that the boys were just right outside our door or if not, inside our room!! Yes they were loud. They were even shouting outside the hallway! Crazy people!

Oh... and while staying at WL, our next door neighbor was smoking, so I went back in the room and shut the door. What a bummer! It's suppose to be a non smoking area. I never encounter this at any value resort, but then again there is no balcony... but still never seen anyone sitting outside puffing.

We are on the 1st floor at Pop right now...only thing I've heard is a toilet flushing every now and then...it's been REALLY nice we are in the 50's building 1 on a corner facing the parking lot...great location close to the pools, food court, bus and parking lot!!!

Stayed one night at the ASMovies and it was really loud. We heard toliets all night long and then a lot of noise in the early morning from outside and surrounding rooms and we were in the back of the resrt in the Love Bug section.

Ive stayed at ASMO 3x and ASSP once. We have never had any unecessary noise. I even make it a point to listen for the famous "turbo toilets" and Ive never heard anything I havent heard at other resorts.

The only time I was ever woken up by neighbors in WDW was at the Poly, when, what I would guess was a newborn, was screaming bloody murder in the room next to us, early in the morning. I should add I am a huge fan of the Poly's so Im not trying to trash them, just showing the comparison.

I stayed at ASSp once & it was very noisy. I am a light sleeper, also. Even tho I was bone tired (it was a MAJOR commando type trip) The flushing, banging, ringing, talking etc.... noises woke me up at all hours. If I had to stay value again (and I would if it were the only way I could get to WDW) I would bring earplugs & Ambien.

I have stayed moderate once & deluxe many times & not had the noise issues. Occasional sounds, but certainly nothing even close to the noise we experienced at a Value......

I know when I stayed at Pop last October, we definitely heard the plumbing, and heard moderate talking from our neighbors. When I stayed at Music several years ago, it was quiet, but I had my sister as my neighbor on one side, so I knew they would be quiet. Neighbors definitely make a big difference.

I will say that in my experience as someone who has stayed at 14 different resorts over the years, the only ones I have noise problems are the one's built after around 1994 or so, so I definitely think thin walls are the norm at Disney in the past ten or twelve years.

The noise problems is one of the reasons I haven't stayed at a value. After 30 of WDW vacations I have found the extra money for a moderate or deluxe is worth it for the quiet. I think the most quiet resort is any deluxe concierge. AKL Con has the most quiet, peaceful rooms I have been to.
See, I travel to WDW often with my incredibly grumpy Mother and I kid you not, this woman is so unbelieveably moody and the last thing I want to hear is my Mom complaining about noise coming from another room. So, in order to make everyone happy, including me, is to book a deluxe concierge somewhere.

We've stayed at all levels of WDW resorts, but the majority of our stays at the All Stars (on all different floors) ... I have never had any problems with noise at the values. And I even purposely listened for the "turbo toilets" ... nothing Actually, I found the noisiest resorts to be AKL and VWL because of the inside hallways. Never had problems at any of the resorts with hearing neighbours in their rooms, and when we split a stay between ASMu and then AKL, I purposely took note that the toilets at AKL were louder than All Stars. But that was just in our own room ... I never heard anyone elses.

Haven't stayed at POP yet, so it's quite possible that the construction was poor in comparison, but I have several friends who have stayed there and none of them had any complaints about noise.

Give me an outside hallway any day! Doors 5 rooms away echo like there's no tomorrow in those inside hallways.

We've stayed at values and deluxes and I can honestly say we've never had any major noise problems anywhere. The "turbo toilets" can be heard everywhere IME. We've also heard people talking and kids running on walkways at the values or in the hallways at the deluxes, it doesn't matter.

Are the walls "thinner" at Pop? Perhaps. But not surprising since it's the newest construction. I'm more concerned our young kids will bother others than I am that we'll be bothered so I try to keep them respectful when they're in any hotel. I agree to ask for a "quiet" area away from the pools and major walkways if noise bothers you. I was impressed with all the quiet areas available at Pop (around the back with an added bonus of lake and fireworks views). We were in the 50's bldg, first floor between the HD and BP pools and it was quiet for us despite being close to everything.

I stayed at Pop Century for a week in November and had no problem with noise at all. I heard the toilet flush in the next room ONCE the entire week. Maybe I was just blessed with quiet neighbors who had large bladders.
