Thick English question here!

OK So its friday afternoon at work, so I thought I'd sit and read the Ghiradelli ice cream menu This is probably a really dumb question but remember I'm British What is the difference between a milkshake and a malt? We have milkshakes here of course and I've had floats over there, but although I've heard of "the maltshop" I don't know what a malt is. All I can think is it contains one of those nasty malted drinks you have at bedtime-please say thats not it!

Not being British I don't know what those malted drinks at bedtime are, but a malt is the same thing as a milkshake but with the addition of malted milk. It doesn't change the flavor all that much but given the option, I always go for the malt. Yummy!

It has malt in it. Kind of tastes like a malted milk ball, if that makes sense.

Mmm, I'm guessing it might taste like the malted milk bedtime drinks then-we have the malted milk balls, we call them maltesers and they are yummy, but the malted milk drinks- less so. I might let DBf try one first...

It is a powder they put in it. Have you heard of the candy "whoppers" ? If so then, that is a malt ball in the middle of the chocolate.

A malt is a milkshake with malt powder added to it. I like it especially in chocolate ones! If you like malted milkballs (i.e. whoppers) you would probably like a malt!

Bedtime malt drink... around here we call that a Guinness!

YES! I've had maltesers and that's what a malted tastes like.

milkshake tends to be creamier and milder.

malted milkshake tends to be more flavorful.

when made properly (and Ghiradelli's does both exceptionally well), there is not much of a recognizable difference between both concoctions.

i would suggest daring to be different and go with the malted milkshake.

No, you're not the only one. Can't stand the stuff myself...seems like fake chocolate. I do however like Guiness...take that for what you will.

As for malts... just remember everything is better with chocolate!

Don't worry about your work-mates. I think that was a great question!! You never know until you ask! By the way my husband likes malts better but, I go don't care for either only SUNDAYS' YUMM!!
