What has happened to it? It used to be weather 24/7.
The Weather Channel now presents a variety of programming. They also offer
another channel, called Weatherscan, which provides local weather not only on a frequency, but
continuously. Details can be found
HERE.
I don't watch them anymore, just review their website which is more informative.
The fact that weather forecasts are just as readily communicated on websites is one really good reason for broadening the appeal of The Weather Channel with the documentaries that they show.
And didn't Comcast just acquire a big chunk of NBC/Universal? I know how well-loved Comcast is around the country.
People love to use Comcast as a whipping boy, but they actually do do a good job delivering what they promise. I suppose they've simply gotten so big that people enjoy taking out their aggressions by criticizing them.
YES!!! and the Travel Channel and CNN Headlines news.
The Travel Channel is actually about to go through some changes, since it has been bought by Scripps.
Headline News I'm puzzled by... after all, it is a secondary station to the main CNN channel. Perhaps what we're seeing, with both Headline News
and The Weather Channel, is that there simply isn't enough money to be made presenting a channel that people are going to tune into for a specific five or six minutes and then turn off. We viewers reap what we sow, and I know that I, for one, had no interest in watching The Weather Channel for more than five or six minutes at a time!
I DON'T want specials/movies on the Weather Channel, poker on the Travel Channel, or talk shows on the Headline news.
Yet those are some of the most profitable offerings on those channels.
MTE! They are turning into MTV and VH1 which are no longer music channels.
As with The Weather Channel, MTV offers an array of channels, the additional channels much more focused on music videos.
Not to mention what's happened to the Food Network, which doesn't have a lot of primetime shows featuring actual chefs showing you their recipes anymore.
I would prefer to see Alton Brown for three hours than Hubert Keller for a half hour.
