What has happened to it?

It used to be weather 24/7. Now it is anything but.

If I see one more program about Hurricane Katrina, I will scream.

If I want to see Al Roker and the news I will turn on NBC.

They've absolutely ruined the Weather Channel.

I totally agree with you. It seems like they zip through the weather so they can get to the fluff.

YES!!! and the Travel Channel and CNN Headlines news.

I DON'T want specials/movies on the Weather Channel, poker on the Travel Channel, or talk shows on the Headline news.

I agree! They may as well change the name because I can never get a weather report on there when I need one.

MTE! They are turning into MTV and VH1 which are no longer music channels.

Not to mention what's happened to the Food Network, which doesn't have a lot of primetime shows featuring actual chefs showing you their recipes anymore.

That's funny because we're finally able to get weather reports for our zipcode again so I was happy watching the Weather Channel this morning. For the longest time we were getting the New York/Boston/Atlanta general weather on local on the 8's and I hated it.

However I was watching CMT and they started showing 'Extreme Home Makeover'?! What's up with that? If I wanted to watch that I'd tivo it when it's on network tv. The channel got changed to GAC, at least they're still showing music videos....

I totally agree. And it is not like the shows they are showing are even remotely interesting. As for the Hurricane Katrina shows, I lived through it and I am tired of it too. Come on. It has been 5 years. Let it go. Show me the weather now!!!

When NBC bought them, this is what I feared.

I don't watch them anymore, just review their website which is more informative.

And didn't Comcast just acquire a big chunk of NBC/Universal? I know how well-loved Comcast is around the country.:sad2:

Gee I was just talking to a co-worker about this. I can't stand the Weather with Al in the morning thing.

I also agree. If I want the news, I'll turn to a news station. I turn in to the weather channel to get the weather.

The Weather Channel now presents a variety of programming. They also offer another channel, called Weatherscan, which provides local weather not only on a frequency, but continuously. Details can be found HERE.

The fact that weather forecasts are just as readily communicated on websites is one really good reason for broadening the appeal of The Weather Channel with the documentaries that they show.

People love to use Comcast as a whipping boy, but they actually do do a good job delivering what they promise. I suppose they've simply gotten so big that people enjoy taking out their aggressions by criticizing them. :)

The Travel Channel is actually about to go through some changes, since it has been bought by Scripps.

Headline News I'm puzzled by... after all, it is a secondary station to the main CNN channel. Perhaps what we're seeing, with both Headline News and The Weather Channel, is that there simply isn't enough money to be made presenting a channel that people are going to tune into for a specific five or six minutes and then turn off. We viewers reap what we sow, and I know that I, for one, had no interest in watching The Weather Channel for more than five or six minutes at a time!

I DON'T want specials/movies on the Weather Channel, poker on the Travel Channel, or talk shows on the Headline news.
Yet those are some of the most profitable offerings on those channels.

As with The Weather Channel, MTV offers an array of channels, the additional channels much more focused on music videos.

I would prefer to see Alton Brown for three hours than Hubert Keller for a half hour. :)

Guess I'm in the minority because I actually like it.. When I'm up to the lake it will show my local weather every 8 minutes and when there's something else on, it's at the bottom of the screen..

Also think it's neat that they're showing weather-related movies on Friday nights now..:thumbsup2

Like most things, opinions vary..:santa:

I hate the weather channel now, it used to be the one channel I could have on and not hear any political news or celebrity gossip. Oh well, maybe I'll just watch the Animal Planet network!

I don't have cable. I have the antenna with the digital converter box thing. The regular network stations are numbered with a decimal point. For example, NBC is 6.1, and a mostly continuous (local) weather and news station is 6.2. CBS is the same thing: 4.1 for the regular station and 4.2 for continuous (local) news and weather.

I get basically the same thing the Weather Channel and CNN Headline News USED to be, but for FREE each month! :thumbsup2

which depending on your provider means an additional cost to get that tier, to receive those channels.
