I just LOVE that kitchen countertop! It looks fantastic and I'm like you, I would have wanted to put as much of the kitchen back as possible first but I'm sure you'll get the other countertop built today.

That kitchen countertop is absolutely gorgeous! Wow! Josh did a fabulous job building it and you did a fabulous job finishing it. SO beautiful. It's all coming together so great!!!!!

I needed a break from reality. So I figured I would catch up on your "little" project. I see all the stuff on FB, but I knew you would have more on here.
D....it looks amazing. I cannot wait to see it all together!

The kitchen looks gorgeous! Cannot wait to see it all together. Josh and you did a beautiful job together.

All your hard work is paying off - everything looks great! Absolutely love the counter top! Can't wait to see how the coffee nook turns out. I really wish I had room in my kitchen area for one but sadly I don't. I hope that after the grad party, you and hubby get some serious R and R!

You have been lucky with the gorgeous weather this weekend. It must have felt great to have the doors back on the cabinets, a functioning sink and a quiet dishwasher. It is all coming together nicely. Have you taken the microwave out of the box yet?

Ahhh... Yes - it feels marvelous! Now, if we can get the rest of it done? :scratchin

Hehehe... I was taking it out of the box, probably at the same time you were asking the question... I did inspect it - and it looks good to me. Josh has not seen it yet - and he's typically more observant when it comes to things like this, than I am. But I honestly didn't see anything. Hopefully it's good. :thumbsup2

The kitchen is looking wonderful! I showed my husband your countertop because I think it looks so nice. He was very impressed. We are looking at ideas for our kitchen but don't want to break the bank in the process of remodeling. We may be stealing some ideas from you.
You guys are doing a great job!

Thank you. :lovestruc I love how it turned out and completely transformed our kitchen - it really is beautiful. I was surprised at how inexpensive it was - relatively... Just guessing - the $ spent was just between $250-$300... That includes all of the stain and the expensive sealer - but not the plywood under and the brushes - we had all of that already. The most expensive part for us - was the fact that we needed 12 feet of continuous wood for the longest part of our counter top... Most people don't need it to be that long. But then there is the time commitment, as well... It took 5 days to stain and then add all of the coats of sealer. It was a very fun process - and I highly recommend everyone making one in their life time. ::yes:: Oh - and if you do, make sure you do it OUT SIDE... That sealer is toxic and I am glad I didn't have it in my house. :thumbsup2

Wow that counter top is amazing! We are getting ready to build and you have me rethinking what I think I want in my kitchen. I may do something similar on my island.

I know you are a little down over your exercising, but you are also walking, hauling boxes around, painting, moving heavy items, etc, so it isn't like you are sitting around. Sometimes a little rest time is good for the body. You will be ready to attack those weights, and your body should see it as a jump start. When we redid our kitchen ourselves, we had no stove for over a month and the fridge was in the living room, so if you couldn't cook it in the microwave or order take out, that was it. I was so sick of take out after that.

We finally have a good week of weather coming up here in PA. We sadly have not had very good weekends in two months. Yesterday I worked in my garage just to get my flower boxes done in between rain showers. I hear you on the deck. Ours is painted and a huge bubble popped up over the winter that needs to be sanded and repainted. Plus we got two new doors that also need to be painted and I have to purchase a tiny amount of trim paint (unless I can find and salvage a small amount from the basement).

Good luck, it looks great!

Thank you! Ooooh - fun!!! I would love to build my own house one day. ::yes:: I hope you do the wood - I cannot believe how much it changed my space. And just doing it on an island is a great way to dip your feet in to see if you like it. :thumbsup2 You'll have to let me know what you decide.

Thank you for saying that... :lovestruc You are right. The last several weeks - between redoing the living room and now the kitchen - it's been so tough on my body. My eating has totally tanked - and I've been so down on myself for it. I've been trying to eat healthy - but to be honest, I am so TIRED from all this working non-stop - I just don't have the time or desire to cook a meal - much less the equipment. However - yesterday morning - now that I have a fully functional kitchen (for the time being), I did take a few minutes to do some food prep. I used to do that every Monday - and then I got out of the habit when we started all of these projects. So, now I have good for me stuff back in the fridge - then I can rely on that, vs. convenience foods. ::yes::

Oh no! I hope you are able to get all of your projects done and the weather cooperates. I haven't even started flowers yet - I really want to run out and get some, but there has been no time. I am considering handing some $$ over to bff to see if she can get a few pots ready for me? :scratchin

Thanks so much. :lovestruc Best of luck to you too - I hope you are able to get everything done.

Sounds like you got a lot done during the weekend. How great that you love your new dishwasher.
How great that you had so good weather this weekend so you could paint outside.

We did - it was nice. I wish we would have gotten more done, but we did what we could. ::yes::

Wow! I am so impressed with how much you guys got done over the weekend. And everything looks beautiful!

Thanks! We definitely had more on our list for the weekend - but I am continuing to move on during the week - so hopefully I can make up for some lost time? :scratchin

I just LOVE that kitchen countertop! It looks fantastic and I'm like you, I would have wanted to put as much of the kitchen back as possible first but I'm sure you'll get the other countertop built today.

Thanks! Sadly - we did not get the other counter top built yesterday - and I am not sure if it will happen today or not? Tuesdays are my busy days. ::yes:: Although - Josh is home today for an appointment this afternoon - I am hoping he will be able to get to it this morning. :scratchin

It's so exciting to see it coming back together.

That kitchen countertop is absolutely gorgeous! Wow! Josh did a fabulous job building it and you did a fabulous job finishing it. SO beautiful. It's all coming together so great!!!!!

Thank you! I love how it all looks - and I am just shocked that a coat (or two) of paint, new hardware and new counter tops could totally change the look of a space like that - especially since the color of my cabinets didn't really change at all. :scratchin

I needed a break from reality. So I figured I would catch up on your "little" project. I see all the stuff on FB, but I knew you would have more on here.
D....it looks amazing. I cannot wait to see it all together!

Awww... Swoozie... I love you. I know it's been a rough few weeks for you, but please know you are on my mind and in my heart a lot.

Thanks for stopping by, and thank you for liking it - it's been a lot of hard work and a lot of time consuming stuff... I cannot wait until it's over - not only for the gratification of a project well done - but just so I can have a life back. Even though, it means that Allison will be gone. :( Trying not to think about that right now though.

The kitchen looks gorgeous! Cannot wait to see it all together. Josh and you did a beautiful job together.

Thanks! I am excited to see it all together and done too - I cannot wait!

****************************************************************************************************

So, yesterday morning - I carved enough space in my office to work out - that felt really good.

Then I took some time to do some meal prep for the week. I typically used to do that every Monday morning - but since we started these projects and I've lost my kitchen a few times, meal prep wasn't possible. I am feeling it in my body big time - and even though I am almost the same sizes - my body composition has gone to pot. :( I am determined though to continue forward in the right direction. ::yes::

While food was cooking - I was packing up the 4 ft section of my kitchen and moving stuff around. I was able to get that entire space cleaned out and ready to be painted. The cupboard doors have to be rebuilt in this space - because they were terribly warped and wouldn't close properly - this is something that happened long before we owned the house.

Then I went upstairs to work... I was able to get everything done up there that I needed to do.

I also had to run some errands yesterday - so I picked Allison up early from school. Part of the fun of being a Senior - is the last few weeks of school here, she has 2 study halls the last 2 hours - so picking her up early is an option. ::yes::

When we got home - my drawer pulls had been delivered - so I put those on (no pics, sorry) - Then I had a bit of time before I had to make dinner, I decided that the vanity cabinet in the bathroom needs to be painted too - so I started emptying that and packing it up. It desperately needed to be cleaned out regardless. ::yes:: And since it's mostly drawers, it will be a super easy thing to do while I am painting the other cabinet bases that are right there anyways. Even if we don't get the floor done in the bathroom - at least the cabinet will be painted & organized. ::yes::

Josh came home from work in a semi-foul mood, understandably so... He had just avoided an accident where someone pulled out in front of him on the highway... He slammed on his brakes so hard that he popped his brake lines. He made it home, because the Jeep is a manual transmission - but he now has no brakes in the Jeep. :( He is home today, not only for an appointment this afternoon - but to fix the brakes in the Jeep. Since there are 3 (almost 4) drivers in this house, it is nearly impossible to be down a car - especially since Josh is the only one who can drive the Jeep. I am just so thankful he was able to avoid the accident and he is OK - the rest we can deal with. :lovestruc

The most exciting part about last night, is a few weeks ago, we received an invitation from the girls' school to attend Awards Night. We were very perplexed - as you don't get an invite to this event, unless you are given an award. Allison inquired at school - but they like to keep it a surprise, so we had no idea why we were attending - only that it was for Allison.

As it turns out - Allison received 2 awards last night... One for her excellence for 2 years as Yearbook Editor (typically - kids are only offered that job as a Senior - so it was a BIG deal last year that she was Editor as a Junior)... And the 2nd award was a total surprise - her Design and Housing teacher chose her as her top performing student of the year - I was so happy that I took video of this one - as her teacher really had some amazing things to say about her... Allison said she was choking back tears on the stage. I am so very proud of this girl! :lovestruc I sure hope she chooses something in the design field - both of my girls are artistically inclined, and it's a field I see both of them excelling at and enjoying... As a mother - nothing else makes sense to me for them.

Anyways - here's the video from last night... Ummm... Or not? I've been waiting for an hour for it to show up in my photo bucket account... If it appears today, I will come back and post it. :thumbsup2

And a picture of the girls and I... Josh tried to take a picture of the 3 of us - but we opted for a selfie, as his picture taking skills are a bit lacking. LOL

20160523_215152.jpg

Today - I have a busy day ahead of me... Lots n' lots of appointments! I am not sure how we are going to make it work? Logistically - it's going to be a nightmare, but we will figure it out. I hope to do my heavy lifting this morning - I will have to carve a bit more space in my office - which means I'll just have to stack the boxes taller. :scratchin I will also be working upstairs all morning until I have to leave to play Mom taxi. I sure hope Josh is able to get the brakes fixed in the Jeep today - that will make life a lot easier for us. ::yes::

I hope you all have a marvelous day - prayers and Pixie Dust to all of you! :lovestruc

First of all, congratulations to Allison!! You are rightly proud of her -- those are significant, wonderful accomplishments!!! It doesn't surprise me at all that both of your girls are artistic -- you certainly are, and given Josh's amazing work on the cabinets it appears that he is, too! Congratulations to her!

We have decided that we have to buy a car for our younger daughter (17 years old) in the next few weeks. I hate to take on another car payment (even though it will be small since we're buying an older used car) and the increased insurance, but since my husband is taking his car out to Utah to help his parents this summer (he's a teacher so he's off all summer) and doesn't know how long he'll be home, and since Brie's work schedule (lifeguard) and mine are totally different, there's no way we'll be able to share a car this summer. *Sigh* Oh well....such is life. I tried and tried to figure out how to make it work logistically but we just can't....I leave for work at 6 am and get home at about 5:15 and she goes in to work anytime between 10 am and 4 pm, depending on what shift she's working at the pool, and her pool is nowhere near our house or the park and ride lot I use when I take the bus. I hate car payments and insurance costs!

I am so excited to see how everything turns out!

How great that you could do some meal prep

Gosh the almost accident Josh was in sounds scary. I'm glad to hear he avoid the accident from happening. I hope he will be able to fix the brakes on the car.

Congratulations to Allison with the 2 awards at school.

I hope your day today goes better than you fear with all the appointments.

Congratulations to Allison!!! You have every right to be proud of her.

Glad Josh didn't get into an accident, but what a bummer about the brake line on the jeep.

The little munchkins were here for a visit. We had so much fun with them. Miss R is talking non stop and she doesn't stop going. Miss M is all smiles and "talking". It was wonderful to see them again.

Hope you can get more things done in the kitchen and bathroom.

Have a wonderful day!

It's been a while since I posted... and I am finally caught up!

First off congrats to Allison!!! Amazing job and what an amazing feeling.

And you guys are doing a fantastic job with your remodel. We are in the middle of a similar project at home, and I am so impressed at how quickly you have pulled everything together. Wonderful work!

Congratulations to Allison. The teacher said very nice things about her. Even I had a bit of a tear in my eye. :)

Congratulations to Allison! How nice to learn that her teacher really thinks a lot of her.

Your kitchen is really coming along. It will be great to have it all finished soon. Can't wait to see the final pictures of your kitchen. I like the material you used in the cupboard. It will be ok if there are some things that don't get done. Your house will look so amazing no one will notice if you don't get new tile in the bathroom. Maybe a new rug could make it look better.

How is your dad doing? I hope he's doing well and back in his own rooms by now.

Thank you! I am loving the counter top so much too! I am anxiously awaiting the walls to be painted - so I can get that put together too. ::yes::

Hehehe... We won't know what to do with ourselves. :scratchin

Thanks - I am just so proud of her!

I certainly don't blame you - but sometimes it just must be done. Hopefully it's a good and reliable car for her for many years. :thumbsup2

Thanks - Me too... I am hoping to see a lot more visible progress this weekend - considering it's a long weekend n' all.

Congratulations to Allison! That was awesome!

Thanks! I am so proud of her!

Thanks Lillian - I am so thankful that he wasn't hurt.

Thanks!

Yes - it went OK - a little crazy, but we were able to get everyone where they needed to be and cars swapped around. :thumbsup2

Congratulations to Allison!!! You have every right to be proud of her.

Yes - and it's one of the really long brake lines too... It's going to be a difficult one for him to replace. It looks like we are officially down to 2 cars for the time being - until after graduation anyways. :(

Awwww... It sounds like you had a wonderful visit with them. :lovestruc

Thanks - me too... LOL

Same to you! It was good to see you!

Congrats to Allison! You must be so proud of her.

Thank you - I am very much!

Hey there! It's great to see you!

Thank you - we are just so very proud of her! It was a fun experience.

Thank you! It's been crazy - but I am hoping it all comes together soon. We only have 2 working weekends left. :scratchin And I am in full-on panic mode. ::yes::

Congratulations to Allison. The teacher said very nice things about her. Even I had a bit of a tear in my eye.

Thanks Sue... Yes - me too. :lovestruc

Your kitchen looks beautiful, D!!!

Thanks so much! I am loving it - I cannot wait to have it done.

Congratulations to Allison! How nice to learn that her teacher really thinks a lot of her.

How is your dad doing? I hope he's doing well and back in his own rooms by now.

Yes - it was neat!

I cannot wait to see it too - I just hope it looks much better than it did - and everything is finished, including the trim.

Dad is doing really well.... I had a discharge care conference with him yesterday, and it looks like he is going home on Friday... they just have to get all of his oxygen needs in place and set up for him. He is very much looking forward to going home. :lovestruc Thanks so much for asking.

*******************************************************************************************

Very quickly this morning... It's a Target day. :thumbsup2

Well - as it turns out - the brake line that blew on Josh's Jeep is one of the longest and most difficult to replace - and it's also one that isn't in stock, so we have to order it. It looks like it's going to be a few weeks before we can fix it. :( So, we will have to deal with being a 2 car household for a little while. This could be a challenge. :scratchin

Otherwise - I worked all day upstairs... I had a meeting last night and then I came home and relaxed.

Today is a Target day... I need to get a few more boxes to finish packing up the bathroom - and then tonight I will work on sanding the drawers and the 2 cupboard doors, also the cabinet bases. I am hoping to get the first coat of primer on these tonight, as well. :scratchin

I hope you all have a wonderful day! :lovestruc

D~

What a bummer that the brake line that blew on Josh's Jeep isn't in stock. Crossing my fingers that it doesn't take too long to get it ordered.

I hope you have a good day at Target

It will be a while... The poor Jeep is going to sit in the driveway for a few weeks, as we just do not have the time for Josh to fix it, until after Allison's open house. We will manage with 2 vehicles for the time being.

Thanks - it' was a pretty good day. :)

************************************************************************************************

So, yesterday was a Target day - so I didn't do any sewing.

I picked the girls up from school and came home. I immediately went to work on packing the remaining two drawers in the bathroom, then sanding all of the cabinets, drawers and doors. After that - I put wood putty in all of the cracks, so it could dry. By the time Josh was home from work, I had all of this done. :woohoo:

Josh wasn't hungry for dinner last night - and I'd had a very late lunch due to Target, so I wasn't hungry either. We took the opportunity for a nap. ::yes::

At 6pm, we got up and got to work on the kitchen. All of the wood putty was dry and I could sand it, then I cleaned them all and started priming. I was able to get 2 coats of oil based primer on everything - which was awesome!

While I was doing that - Josh was working on repairing the wall where he had to move the light switch, and then he went to work installing the wainscotting and trimming out the window over the kitchen sink. Since I'd already primed and painted the wainscotting the other day - this was a super easy process. We still have some touch up painting to do, and we have to put the trim up around the wainscotting - but it looks GREAT and exactly the look I am going for! :woohoo: I am just so excited!

I feel like we were able to get more accomplished last night in 3 hours, than we did all weekend. I know that's not true - but visually - it just feels that way.

Now that the wainscotting is up - I am seriously considering changing out the fabric I have lining the back of the cupboard... I am just not feeling it. I had purchased a few different fabrics for this purpose, because I wasn't exactly sure which one I wanted to use. I might do that this morning - if I have the time. I want to take new pictures for you all anyways - so you can see the hardware and the wainscotting. ::yes::

Ummm... So - I took a few minutes this morning to change out my fabric backer boards... What do you think? I really like the new one better - it gives it more of a "farmhouse" feel... And I like that it brings in the black of the coffee cabinet and also some blue - which is a color that I would really like to use in this room, if I can. Before & after:

20160526_064928.jpg

And the fabric close-up, so you can see what I am talking about.

20160526_064948.jpg

Today - I will be heavy lifting.

Then I will be working upstairs all day.

V has an appointment this afternoon, so I have to pick her up early from school.

Tonight - we will be working on the kitchen again. I talked to Josh about it on Monday night - and we both agreed that we need to be putting in a few week night hours... I am starting to have a lot of anxiety about getting all of this done on time - And I feel like I am legitimately justified in those feelings... Our list is long yet. I know he is tired after his long days at work - but if we can just push ourselves through these last 2 weeks, we might just make it? :scratchin

I hope to have all of the base cabinets, drawers and doors painted by the end of the day. I hope that they are dry enough by tomorrow that I can put the hardware on them and move back into those areas of the house... It's incredibly difficult to have boxes piled in every open space, on top of (now) the contents of our bathroom cupboards/drawers are all over the house too. The only good thing, is I refuse to allow anything to go into the living room - so the living room space is immaculate - and when I need to get out of the clutter and mess, I just go in there. But it makes the other areas worse. LOL

However - we still have 2-3 cabinet doors that Josh needs to totally build. The 2 from under the microwave, which are warped and haven't closed for as long as we've owned the house - It's pretty obvious it's water damage from the window that is right next to them. And then possibly 1 other cabinet door from where we are putting in the new microwave and the extra space we have. :scratchin But now that I think about it - I am not sure that we need to build that 3rd one? We'll have to see.

I am hoping for a very productive day today... I love that the wainscotting is up - and visually, we are really starting to see the how the end product is going to look. I am so excited about this! :woohoo:

I hope you all have an amazing day!!! Sending out lots of pixie dust to all of you! :lovestruc

D~

So cute!!! And I agree on the fabric change out. I would never think of wainscoting for a backsplash. I wondered where it was going. It looks really nice. Good luck!!
