They Really Should...

That's why we love it. I certainly don't shop my week's groceries there, I don't think my 2 week paycheck would pay for 1 week of groceries, but there's a lot of specialty stuff they have that regular run of the mill grocery stores/Walmart doesn't have.

I am shocked at the amount of people I do see with a whole cart full with what looks like the regular grocery trip. If a quarter full cart at Walmart is $120, I can't imagine what a full cart at Wegmans is. I'd need loans, LOL.
Certain things are cheaper at Wegmans vs. other stores such as orange juice and chicken broth (at least the brands I buy) but yeah I don't regularly go there. I do miss the hot food bar though. Hasn't come back to the Wegman's near me :(

I would also like to see individual slices of pie and cake either in the frozen food isle or the baker or both. I know that may be a big ask but sometimes you just want a task not a whole entire cake or pie.

I really like Wegman's but it's too far for us and it's always so busy, it's like a zoo in the parking lot. Wegman's has a great bakery and produce area. I like that I can just buy a couple stalks of celery rather than the entire bunch. If they were a little closer, I would consider shopping there more often.
Yup, that's my biggest issue with Wegmans. It's not far from where I live but the parking garage is miserable to drive/park in. The store is also very crowded the majority of the time. I have to go during my lunch break on a weekday to have a decent experience. I don't bother going on weekends anymore.

I must be very lucky on my location. We have a large, flat surface lot with good entry and exits so it's never a problem. I usually hit the store by 9AM on a weekend and it's tolerable. I have had to go in the middle of the day and it's so busy, but at my store, it still never gets as bad as Costco!

Some products are available with smaller packages within a larger box. Ritz crackers and Premium saltines, for example, have a box called “Fresh Stacks”. Oreo also sells boxes of single-serving packs (2 or 4 cookies in each). If you can’t find them in your supermarket, try a warehouse club like BJ’s or Costco.
It's not the size of the packs necessarily - oreos does sell smaller ones. But they only offer their regular cream ones in those smaller sizes. I'd love a package of cookies that had 2 or 3 of each flavor. I think they're losing a lot of potential sales by just offering red velvet or choc mint or carrot cake flavor or their other "specialty" flavors only in the huge full size packages. Let people sample a bunch of diff ones, find their faves, THEN they'll spend money on the full size version from then on. Huge missed opportunity imo

Walmart bakery even does this. On tables (or in the fridge section depending on the cake or pie) you'll find individual slices available. We've done that before when we can't agree on a dessert lol.

One thing we do like a lot about Walmart bakery is they have this sampler version of cake and cheesecake. It's been a bit hit with bringing it for dessert for family dinners because then some can have red velvet, some german chocolate, then chocolate, etc on the cheesecake raspberry, plain, caramel, etc It's not the same as you wanting a taste on an individual level but it's nice that you can get some variety for multiple people without having to purchase multiple cakes or pies.

Funny you should mention it - my neighbourhood grocery store (not a huge, national chain place) sells 1/2 cakes and 1/2 pies in the bakery and a lot of their other goods, such as danish, tarts, cookies, etc. - are packaged in 4's. It's my guess that because our area has an ageing population and TONS of seniors shop at this store, they have adapted to accommodate people's need for smaller portions. They also have bulk celery, carrots, broccoli & cauliflower florets in the produce aisle, along with 1/2 melons and 1/2 squash and probably some other things I'm forgetting. Don't get me wrong - it's undoubtedly more expensive (per item or pound or whatever) to buy in these quantities, but cheaper overall once you factor in waste.

Several grocery store chains in my area do individual slices of cake: Safeway and Harris Teeter spring to mind. As for pies, I've not seen individual slices but I have seen smaller pies for sale. They would be enough for an individual. But I haven't seen them frozen.

cyrus o'leary brand sells individual serving frozen pies (in more of cup shape than a slice) and since these started hitting the shelves walmart has been doing a knockoff under one of their brand names but they are usually sitting in the cold section of their bakery-they freeze up and re-thaw fine though.

Target sells squares of cake, two servings or so (unless you are me). They also sell half pies and little round individual pies.
