They Lost My Daughter!!!!!!!

What a terrible way to start school. Hugs to you. I know I would of panicked if that happened to me. I can't believe the treatment that you received from the school. I would make sure someone high up in the ranks was aware of how you were treated. What if they let her off at the wrong stop? They handeled it to lightly in my opinion.

That happened to a friend's son on his first day of kindergarten a couple of years ago. Very scary!

I can imagine your fear when your child isn't where she is suppose to be. Everyone one around you is so calm, when your in a panic. Makes you think they aren't taking this matter as seriously as you are.

I just called the bus garage today as schools starts here next week. Both my grandson's weren't on the list to be picked up. Big Surprise!

I'm concerned because my dgs9 has to ride to one school then take a transfer bus to another. Same thing coming home. I'm afraid he will somehow get lost in the shuffle.

The other concern is my other dgs5 is autistic and starts "reg. kindergarten". He has gone to "special ed" for a couple of years. He won't be taking the reg. bus as I am afraid for him to do this. So I have chosen for him to still ride the handicap bus. In the confusion of taking a handicap bus to the reg. school, I'm hoping he doesn't get lost too.

Also have another dgd5 starting kindergarten this year too. I'm concerned with her also because I don't want what happened to your child happen to her.

OMG, thank God she is alright and thank goodness it is over. I can imagine how scarry it was for all of you.:(

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie. What a terrifying day you had. I'm so glad it turned out alright but I think I would be having a talk with the principal tomorrow. This shouldn't be happening.

I'm glad your daughter wasn't frightened and so sorry that you were, I know I would have been totally panicked. Sorry you had to experience this and I hope it never, ever happens again.

I think if my kid didn't get off the bus as expected, my first order of business would be to dial 911.

As far as I'm concerned, that qualifies as officially missing.

I think the school's response to a bunch of cops showing up would have been a bit different....and (in my area at least), patrol cars and detectives can be in more places at once and more quickly than I can be, too.

I also think that there's no excuse for not having radio communications with all the buses. Once you've figured out a child isn't at the get-on point or the get-off point, it's a good way to figure out where they might be in between. (I almost think that only some buses have radios in my district--those that the disctrict owns. The hired buses may not....)

A few years ago, I answered the doorbell early in the morning to be asked by a detective if I had seen one of the neighbor's kids at the bus stop near my house. Apparently, he had been sent out to the bus stop a little early, and when his mother drove by the stop a short while later, she saw the rest of the kids waiting for the bus, but not her son. She, rightly so, panicked.

He turned up safe and sound at school, having been dropped off by another parent, who thought he and her daughter had missed the bus.

I also suspect that police involvement would help ensure that the school wouldn't be so blase' about who gets on what bus.

Scary.

:worried: OMG Do ya'll have school board members you can call? I would so be on the phone with the school board official for my district and let them have an earful!

Can't figure out what's going on with some of these bus drivers and school workers  It seems they have forgotten how scary this could be to a small child.

Hugs to both of you.

I guess my DD is not the only one who was lost by the school bus system. At least your DD was still on a bus. A substitute bus driver never went to our stop. My DD is very quiet and got scared. She told her friend on the bus that he missed the stop and the little girl told my DD to just get off at her stop. Well, this driver did not know the kids or their stops and let her off. All I had seen was a school bus drive past our stop coming from the wrong direction. I called the school right away. They told me to wait at the stop. Another bus came (it was empty) and the driver informed me that they had no idea where she was. I think I stopped breathing at that point. Luckily, before I could begin my panic attack, the mother of the little girl from the bus drove up to the stop and told me she had my DD and that her DD had brought her home. It was one of the scariest moments of my life. You start to think of all the terrible things that could have happened. All I wanted was to hear her voice. I can't express the relief I felt when I saw her pull up in that car.

:o

Happened here in miami too. First day of school the liitle girl (not mine) was put on the correct bus, she is hearing impaired. Everyone was dropped off , but the little girl. The bus returns to its garage. The bus driver leaves with the little girl still on the the bus awaiting for her stop.

Meantime the whole public school system is looking for her. OMG!! She is sitting on the bus in 95+degree heat. Finally someone (another bus driver saw the little one on the bus.)

Needless to say the bus driver (vetern 20 years driving) was dismissed.

Little girl was reunited with mom and dad (dehydrated).::yes::

OK - This was NOT the right thread for me to open.

My youngest started kindergarten last Thursday.
I know those first few bus days can be crazy so I've been dropping off and picking up - but gave in and told her she could ride the bus home today.

Yikes! Hope things go smoothly - now I'm nervous.

 to the OP and others who have had scary bus experiences.

THAT is exactly why I WILL NOT let my kids ride the bus. I had to change my shift at work in order to take them and pick them up, but I feel like it is worth it for peace of mind.

Thanks everyone, Ive calmed down quite a bit now. I still cant get a hold of the bus barn though so Im saving some of my anger for when (if?) they ever call me back.

That was probably the most scared Ive ever been.
Thinking about that poor girl who they let walk home (????) then imagining that if that could happen she could certainly be let off somewhere along the way... UGH it was terrifying!!

Im so glad all 3 of my kids are home safe now. Im going to go and spend some nice quiet time with them now.

Have a great night all.

Binny, sorry that happened. Glad that Kaylee is safe and sound

Sorry this had to happen to you, Binny. How scary that would be.:(

I'm sorry to hear you went through this terrible incident. Are the bus drivers airheads???? You'll have to go through more flack to right this wrong and see that it doesn't happen again.

How incredibly horrible. I can imagine how upset and scared you were. Their lack of concern is unexcusable - oh she will show up. God forbid she didn't, what would they do then.....wait I dont want to think about that.

I am glad she is home and safe Binny!

I can't believe it. The same thing happened to my grandson his first day of kindergarten last week. My son walked to the bus stop to pick him up, the bus unloads, and no grandson. The bus driver starts to pull away and my son's says "my son is supposed to be on that bus." Bus driver just says "no one else here." My son said he stands there for a few more minutes trying to decide what to do, and finally decides to go home and call the school. Just as he is walking away he hears "daddy, daddy."

The school had put my grandson on the wrong bus, and after all the kids had got off, and he was the only one left, he told the bus driver his address. My son and his family had just moved to that house the week before. It's a darn good thing that he was smart enough to remember his address! What if he would have gotten off at a stop thinking it was his? I don't even want to think about what could have happened. He is only five!!

Anway, he is no longer riding the bus to and from school.

I'm glad that your story had a happy ending too. Scary.

I am so sorry that happened to you. I let my 13 yo DD ride the bus, but not my son (8 yo). Last year we had many problems on the bus. Things stolen, broken, fights, etc. There is never any resolution or proof, since the bus drivers don't seem to care. The last straw was when my son came home & told me that the bus driver had pushed hiim. I found out other parents had compaints too. I contacted the school & the principal stated that she would report the incident. I never heard what happened & my son never rode the bus again. I'm pretty sure DS3 will never ride either. It relieved a lot of stress when I started driving him. It seemed like i never knew when the bus was picking him up or dropping him off. The entire bus load of children were often late for school.
