....at least for me. I was at MK the other day it is my favorite park. Anyway Fantasy land looks like a war zone. Why did they feel the need to rehab Small World and block in Winnie the Pooh when they had also torn up half the park for the new Princess Castles? I was there during the fireworks and all I could think of was that it seemed rockets firing and piles of dirt that are barely coverend by the fences looked like a desolate and demolished mess.

Now to make matters worse as we were leaving they had us take a short cut through the cast entrance on Main Street! OMG I did not want to see compressors and cars parked behind Main Street. Walt must be turning in his grave or wherever he is! What ever happend to keeping up the illusion?

Look I know there is no Santa and I know MK is an illusion but for goodness sake at least try and keep up the pretense. There was a time when the experience was almost magical....not anymore. As for the new castles all I could think of is they should decorate them with dollar signs. How about some new quality rides OR how about just maintaining the charm that once was?

Well, I think one has to make sacrifices for the sake of advancement. I don't see what else they could be doing, within reason, to block the construction from the view of the public. And I think a majority will agree that the fantasyland expansion is in general a good thing. I'll take a short term inconvenience for the long term gain.

And as to being routed through the cast members area behind main street on the way out, this happens all the time. It's crowd control. Main Street can be a bottleneck at the end of the day, and I think most people want to get out of the park as quickly as possible at the end of a long day in the park.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but I don't think either of those things causes the MK to lose its magic.

While I can see the reason for the construction for the new "castles", I cannot see the reason for not having better timing for the rehab of Small World or Winnie. If they did it in stages it would not have been so bad. I guess it is not that magical for people if they want to get out of the park as fast as they can at the end of the day but for those who do not want the illusion destroyed it is then it is a matter of personal opinion.

I completely feel what you are saying...I hate being in the MK or any park in WDW for that matter when they are doing construction. When I see construction zones it brings me back to the "real" life.....

August is a slow period. The rehabs were necessary. Would it be better for them to do rehabs (Small World and WtP) in July? Spring Break? They are necessary and the overhaul of Fantasyland will take YEARS to finish.

A little sacrifice now, for a big payoff later. And honestly, if that's all it takes to "kill" the magic for you...well, color me happy that'll be one less person taking up valuable space in the lines ahead of me.

EXACTLY! If I wanted real life I would not have gone to WDW...I would have gone to Gettysburg!

I can't believe they're rehabbing anything in summer! We used to go there every January. It made sense to rehab then, and we weren't surprised.

While, I'm not sure if it would kill the magic for me, my magic and your magic may be completely different so I do understand.

You are being just a bit over-dramatic.

Unfortunately there is simply no way to do a major reconstruction of MK and hide it all from view. We are talking about a project that is going to take years! And Disney would rather shut a ride down to redo it than have you ride it and see tarps up, or half painted scenes. Talk about ruining the magic!:sad2:

I understand where you are coming from, OP. While I'm excited to see new construction in Fantasyland, they are doing a lot of rehabs in the same area.

The Teacups are set to go down in September, so there could be rehabs/tarps on 3 rides in Fantasyland, not to mention the wall. I can't wait to see the finished product though!:cool1:

There is always so much to see and do at WDW that you should be able to work around the construction zones.

Sorry, Bella, it's always a tough crowd around here whenever you say anything even remotely critical of Disney.

We're hoping to go in December. Sounds like we need to put our blinders on when we go into Fantasyland.

I agree with loving the magic, but they have to make it magical sometime.

We all know what they're working on, it's no secret. Plenty of other magic to find in WDW.

Seriously, Disneyland Park (Ca's MK) is the most charming and magical. Even moreso than when WDW's Fantasyland is at it's most perfect. If you want charm and magic, visit there, it's wonderful! :cloud9:

Agreed. This seems like the perfect time to do rehabs. And they certainly can't wait until the Fantasyland rehabs are done, that would be years from now! We've been going to the parks for years and years, so getting to walk through some behind the scenes areas would just ADD magic for us because it's something we've never seen before. (Well me anyway....DH used to work there so he's not surprised by anything behind the scenes. LOL!)

Aren't you just a barrel of sunshine. Do you sell 'shards-o-glass' pops too?

Yikes. That was harsh. She didn't say anything horrible. I agree with her. If it "ruins" it for other people, so be it. More room for us to enjoy:goodvibes

I can understand your frustration and if you can't go often then I can see where disappointment can come from.

Thankfully, for me, I know we'll be back soon so I can tolerate it. And I saw the rides with wall around them, I don't know if I was just too busy chasing my kids around to care, but it didn't really bother me.

But again, I can see how it could bother someone who hasn't been there in years and may not get to go again for a long time.

Perhaps they can try and hide the construction zone a bit better. I've seen pictures and it does look rather distressed there now.

But to address having to leave via backstage, this happens a lot at DL when it is most crowded. The fire marshal makes it so for safety as Disneyland's Main Street was built for a smaller amount of people. I'm guessing the MK was very crowded when they opened up the backstage path way for guests.

There has been so much reported about all the construction at Magic Kingdom, especially on these boards. If it was a problem, you should have rescheduled your trip or spent time in the other parks. Not trying to be critical, but all the construction should not have come as a big surprise. I have seen pictures posted right here on the DIS board so I know what it looks like and I haven't even been to see it.

Personally, I'm glad they're doing the Small World renovation at WDW if it's going to look like the renovated version at DL---love what they did there!!!

Magic is a state of mind.

When we visit there are always things that, if allowed to, can ruin the magic. Construction, rehabs, tour groups, mean/rude guests or cm's, screaming children, prices; the list is endless. Try to enjoy the things that are magical and don't let the things that aren't detract too much from the experience.
