They have begun deleting inactive players!

Does that mean your items are still there? I know I doubt it but of the three characters of my son's that he has not used lately that I got that message on I did not go further than that screen.

No, anything that was there is gone, you choose a new name, and it is as if you are a first time player again, EXCEPT the multiuse codes wont work if you have used them before

that stinks i have a person for my mom but she never plays and i kept it to do quest and stuff i hope her person stays  :furious: and mom has kept me off for a while because of grades so i hope my account is still there

Oh, lets just say...That's Really nice of them!

Wow, looks like today is a good day to make sure all extra characters aren't holding anything valuable! I'm not worried about me, but I know my daughter had her things spread over two or three characters. She kept switching characters she played with as she and friends of ours made her park characters. Better get them checked today! Also, it would be intersting to know what they consider "inactive". How many times in 6 months do we need to log in to remain active?
You're absolutely right! A few of my characters are holding some stuff they bought for me. I must check them today! I have 8 characters, 7 of them I hardly use. Well my sister uses one of them so I don't have to worry about that. 6 characters to log on and see that hopefully they are still there. I'm especially worried about 2 of them because I haven't used them in such a long time. I just hope it wasn't 6 months. A lot of my characters are made specifically for holidays but I guess I can't use them every year, I have to use them every month! That is if they are still there. So I guess you'll be seeing Santa Claus in July. If any of my characters have been deleted, I will be very mad at vmk. Too far vmk, too far.:sad2:

Funny thing- is I had a few characters I tried to access before they made the announcement and could no longer get to them- these are characters whose information I had and saved- didn't play them in a while but before Christmas I went through and checked them all out...

All my other characters were accessed before christmas and I put my "holiday" characters onto my VMKpal so I play them now every now and then- got to make sure I keep the names lol- none of those characters though hold much of anything- although I will make sure to take the santa hats off my christmas characters just in case...

I have two extra characters I play more often and one holds all my trade stuff- the extras of pins and costumes... the other has a few extras of the buyable pins like you get from fireworks game (used to get) but not much else...

My kids character's are played at least once a week- even if just to get credits- my daughter goes through stages of wanting to play and not wanting to play- so this would be really sad for some kid- who just hasn't played in a few months because "God forbid" they actually have a life outside of VMK-

Ok I have a problem with all of this:

1. Personally I do not think they should delete any accounts. My DS has an acct and does play although not regular and if I did not do some of the quests for him his character would have been deleted! that would not be right.

Alot of these players are kids afterall and things happen in their lives that take them away from the game for extended periods of time. Imagine the hurt and the tears when they do log back in and find they have lost everything.

2. If this is a rule then be up front about it and say in the TOS that after a period of x amount of time of non use your acct will be deleted. I do think that a 6 month time period is way to short for this but if that is what they choose then ok just let us know.

3. While I know Yavn warned about this happening I think they should have posted a week in advance that on Jan xx, 2007 any acct that you have not logged into and played within the last x months will/may be deleted.

Just my thoughts and opinions.

Arg, that's all I have to say about that.

And does anybody have the link to retrieve your log in information? Not the one where you forgot your password. I know there is another that goes through the disney site, not vmk. Any help would be appreciated. :)

AND if Adventuredaz hadn't posted here, we wouldn't even know it was happening. This could have been handled MUCH better.

Yeah, and I wonder if they thought about the people who lost friends. One of my best friends in the game was deleted... He hasn't played in over a year, but it's sad.

I saw some peeps mention yesterday that they had more room on their friends list and they didn't do any of the deleting, but I didn't think it would be vmk taking away our characters this soon. :(

I also noticed this! i had kept Nanoer on my list to remember but the other dasy i found him off my friend lit :(

Yes, didn't nanoer get a pretty long ban? Those 10 year bans are turning into permanent bans now.

I wonder though, if you lose your account and avatar, can you then make a different screen name for your account? That may be one way to replace a screen name you come to regret.

Well, this confirms it for me then. Yesterday while looking at my friends list I noticed that two of my good friends of 8 years were no longer on my list...I know they didn't delete me because they have not even logged on since 2005! :rotfl2: I thought it was possible that VMK had started to delete unused accounts, and for the amount of time that my friends neglected to play it seemed reasonable...but 6 months?? That's way too soon! They need to take a step back and rethink before they start hacking away at accounts! :scared:

I can understand a delete of a character that has not logged in since 2005 but 6 months is really no time at all in the life of a child....like I mentioned before kids have things come up and lose track of time easily and just because they have not logged into VMK for 6 months does not mean that they will not soon only to find out that their character no longer exsists :sad1:

I think that is a very sad and un Disney like thing to do.

I think one thing that should be done before an account is deleted is a email should be sent to the email acct used when setting up that acct. and the member should be given at least 5 days to log into that acct. if they do not want to lose it.

I think that is more than fair.

I also think that it should state in the TOS that accts will be deleted if no activity for x amount of time and if it (and it was not)was not in the TOS when you registered you should also receive a email updating you with this info.

If you used a legimate email then all is great if no then not Disney's fault.

I know this is a free game but that does not excuse or make it right to delete these accts with no formal notice.

I consider Yavn a friend but that does not mean I will always agree with his and his staffs decisions on the running of VMK.

ok off my box for nowpopcorn::

I see no point in deleting at all. What harm does excessive characters do to vmk? Is there a reason that they are deleting inactive accounts? Well at least my accounts were lucky. I just checked and saw a map which means I got to keep them. But this is still a very unfair thing for vmk to do.

One concern I have about updating people by e-mail: what about people who have a valid e-mail address but for some reason don't always get mail from VMK? I have my main character attached to an aol address, and I did that in beta before it was noted that VMK e-mails weren't getting through to aol addresses. It is a legitamate address, but I had no idea that mail from VMK wouldn't get to me. So would it be fair for anyone who signed up before the aol issue was known and didn't get the e-mail to have an account deleted? I understand that those who used a fake e-mail address wouldn't get the mail and that would not be disney's fault, but what about legitamate addresses that people thought could get e-mail from VMK, only to discover that their account was deleted and they didn't get an e-mail that would have let them save it?

you can make a free email acct(yahoo, gmail, hotmail etc) and in the players guide there is a link where you can change your Disney acct info, you can change your email addy there.

I totally think that this is so wrong.... I understand that Yavn talked about this...BUT like so many others have mentioned..that was a few months ago! What about the kids who have made a player and haven't been for a while for what ever reason... just
not right! I have a sister who plays and her two grandkids but they don't play often bc they don't access to computer except at her house. Imagine them if they are deleted?? They should given people a notice???? Just not write!!

But still, if there are accounts that haven't been active for a long time its just a waste. Lots of people have like 20 accounts or more and don't even use most of them. Its just a waste. There are people on VMK who have inactive friends and the VMKers dont know that some people might not even be on anymore. I have many people on my friends list that have been inactive since like September and its wasting space on my friends list. Even though some might be really good friends, its still a waste to keep them on, obviously showing they won't even get back on. For all I know they might have made a new name (see?) and stopped using their old one.

***My opinion..not trying to stir up an argument.
