I've done a little bit of reading and video watching about why the Navy doesn't use battleships anymore, and the short answer is that aircraft carriers can do everything a battleship does and more. The newest carriers are also massive and can stay at sea for a long time on nuclear power.

Yeah, Destoryers too. Having a lot of big guns just doesn't matter when you have air power and guided missile systems that can hit a specific target from hundreds of miles away. The big guns may look more intimidating, but with today's stealth aircraft and guidance technology, you'd never see it coming anyway.
