They call this a sale?

So I saw the news about the Free Dining Dates and thought maybe its time to look into an extra trip this year.

I looked into airfare last night and found $130 each way on SW between ISP and MCO.

This morning I get an E-mail that there is a nationwide fare sale. I log on at work and see the fare is up to $153.

I think thats odd so I check when I get home and now its $175

Either SW has a strange concept of sale or Oil prices are jumping hourly or WDW is packing them in on FD dates.

Either way, its hurting the prospects of the trip

I had the same problem. But it was funny, as Southwest got higher, Delta got lower. So, I ended up with Delta.

Two of my co-workers did the same thing yesterday, They waited patiently for the sale, saw the fares and booked on other airlines.

AAAAAAHHHH!:crazy2:

I shouldn't have looked. Booked with Delta and now Southwest actually did end up going lower.

I knew I shouldn't have looked. (Face Palm)

Yeah, it wasn't much here either. I booked back in May and looked to see if my prices had gone down and he sale fares for my flights were almost three times what I paid for them:crazy2:

I guess people hear the word "sale" and book regardless.

I almost always check the "sale" fare for SW & Alaska air. It's never better than
Delta's price AND I can fly out of our local airport on Delta and not have to go to
Spokane for SW. And I can get to MCO sooner with Delta than with Alaska.
Makes it worth putting up with Delta's numerous flight changes, I guess. :)

I am not booking anything, but checked the sale prices after I got the alert just for the heck of it. Didn't see a single $69 fare out of Buffalo. So much for a "$69 Sale".

SW has learned to play the nasty marketing game I abhor: Raise the prices and then make potential customers think the prices are great by advertising it as a "Sale". This has happened 2 of the last 3 times they had "Sales" (this last one didn't' increase prices, but didn't drop them either)

Although they've only been at it under a year, I'm really tired of the game. Now I check kayak for prices on JetBlue and Delta before looking at SW. I just realized this morning that I don't even check my Dings anymore :worried: I miss the old SWA - wish they'd bring back their "we say what we mean" approach.

Yep I noticed the same thing. In fact our fares went up $1 on the way back.

We booked ISP to MCO for the first week of October a couple of weeks ago. I checked yesterday and the flights had gone down by $40 - so I canceled and rebooked and got the SW credit - so now we have to take another trip before next July 4!:)

after reading so much here about SW birthday sale in June--

about a week before the birthday was going to start I got an email for $99

one way for our trip in Aug--

I thought should I book now or gamble and see what the B-sale would be

Im going back and forth--

finally after driving myself totally nuts I just booked the $99 sale hopeing for the best

it paid off this time as the B-sale was $112!!! just $4 lower then the lowestest price I found when I started checking in April

got to love "sales"!!!!

SW (and others) do this all the time. They say there is a fare of $69 somewhere....but don't say where. Yes, somewhere there is a fare on sale, but not necessarily the one you want, or can even find. It's a classic marketing ploy to get people to think about flying somewhere.

It's no different than saying....buy 20 cans of food for 10 bucks. What they don't say is that you can still buy 1 for 50 cents. But the marketing invitation gets many people to buy 20 instead of one. Just like saying...."fare sale". It gets people in the mood to buy as their salivation glands activate because someone said "sale". Marketers use Pavlov's dog a lot.
