They are disinfecting the schools.

How do these kids go to public schools without being immunized? I have to show my kids shot records every year or so?:confused3

My daughter had a life threatening allergic reaction to her very first DTPshot. She stopped breathing exactly 12 hours after getting the shot-Thankfully I was awake at the time and holding her when she went limp. A couple weeks later I was contacted by the FDA- apparantly she wasn't the only one that had a reaction to that particular batch of shots. While they believe it was the "batch" they put her on a do not vaccinate list of some kind- just the pertusis part- so yes you can get just the DT part of the shot.

So now I always ask for batch numbers when my kids get shots. I get very nervous when I hear about resurgance of pertusis because my daughter isn't immunized. All my other children have gotten that vaccine without issue.

My oldest dd who is 19 is allergic to the pertussis part of the shot. Threads like these scare me, just like java above.

When she had her last physical, I asked the doctor if she should get it anyway and she thought I was crazy. I said it is going around and I hate for her to be unprotected. I still feel that way. She is in a dorm.

The only nurse that has ever questioned her shots was the nurse in TX. She had to get a note that she was allergic.

They just don't look at them very closely from my experience.

My Dniece had whopping cough at age 11. My sister is crazy about keeping DN up to date on all her shots. She has yearly physicals and still came down with whopping cough. DN goes to a pediatric group and there are no religious convictions preventing her from getting shots. This is apparently right when the vaccine wears off. It happens even to the most diligent.

DN was sick for a long time and ended up in the emergency room on numerous occasions. This is not something to mess with. And yes, it can be quite contagious.

Our twins had seizure right after birth so they were never given pertussis because that is one of the possible side effects. The dr said that whooping cough it bad but usually not fatal in kids over a year-which is why they give the vaccine. There are outbreaks every year and it is treatable with antibiotics (the only "childhood disease" that is bacterial vs viral). There was an outbreak in our kids' school right around the time that DD had her stomach surgery. We asked our dr for preventative antibiotics for her because she couldn't have coughing fits or her stitches could have ruptured. A few years before this outbreak, our neighbor kids had whooping cough and we all needed to take preventative antibiotics.

I had pertussis in 2007... I literally coughed for 3 months. It was crazy. I thought I had pneumonia, but my Dr. insisted on swabbing me for whooping cough and sure enough, it was positive. I was 35 at the time, and I hadn't gotten the booster (my last tetnaus shot wasn't the Dtap shot, just tetnaus I guess). My household had to take prophylactic antibiotics, I was on them for a month, and my xH's brand new baby (2 months old) had to go on them too because she didn't have the shot yet, and my son could have exposed her when he was at Dads. I felt horrible.

PLEASE, ask your Dr. if you are up to date with this vaccine. You DON'T want to cough like that, ever!

This is what happened to my DD whe she had her first DPT. She was asleep in the cradle next to my bed and I just suddenly woke up and reached for her and found her cold and limp. She wasn't breathing. We rushed her to the hospital and we were told that she couldn't continue with the Pertussis vaccine.

And for the record, she did contract Pertussis last year. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (but it lasted a long, long time). There were only a few other cases reported in the county but none in her school or among her friends. No one else in the family caught it, either.

That's when I found out that that they need a booster every 10 years to continue their immunity.
