Thespians Unite

Im gonna try to get my parents to let me got to this week long fine arts camp.

i've gone the past three years to a fine arts camp. so much fun!!!!! i got the lead one year, and it was all to disney music!!! i'm a redhead so they added part of your world especally for me to sing! that made me happy!
I'm going to go to Carnegie Mellon for 6 weeks this summer to do a pre-college program in Theatre Design... I can't wait :D

i've had friends in years past go to carnigie and loved it! they've all gone for musical theatre though, not design.
I LOVE Theatre.

I'm going to an performing arts high school for theatre in the fall.

I try to do lots, but I live in the middle of North Carolina, far away from local theatres, so it's hard. My real friends are in theatre, though. Amazing people. I have a story on miracles!(right before a show) Yes, they do happen.:yay:
jealous!!! i live in illinoise, but the closest preforming arts school in 1hr and a 1/2 away! i'd like to hear ur mirical story!
I love to act. I've gotten lots better this year. I'm hopefully going to be in the fall play and the spring musical next year. All of my friends are somehow related to my school's theatre department.
Improv, anyone?
improv YES. i couldn't do my school musical this year cause of another show i was in. the rumors for this year's musical are spamalot and gypsy. i'm pulling for gypsy cause i'm a shoe in for baby june! i'm the shortest girl in the theatre program!
I'm completely theatre obsessed. Broadway actually. I've done... hmmm.... 9 shows in the past four years. I go to New York annually and see three or four shows. I've seen eight in total.
Right now, I am really obsessed with Sherie Rene Scott and her new show Everyday Rapture. She has great, great talent.
Anyone else watching the Tonys tonight? I sure am! Hoping Sherie wins the Tonys she is nominated for, though I wouldn't mind seeing Catherine Zeta Jones winning for Best Actress either. I'm going to NY in August or July, not to sure what shows I'm seeing. If Everyday Rapture extends its run I'll see that, if Chenoweth stays in Promises, Promises I'll see that, I'd like to see American Idiot and Memphis, but A Little Night Music looks good too. And of course, I wouldn't mind seeing a play like Fences.

love SRS!!!! i was in NYC a few years ago and saw dirty rotton scoundrils. we went to the stage door and i met her. she was soooo sweet!

Theatre nerd FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

absolutly!

sry for any typos... i was doing this in a bit of a hurry!

Oh gosh my dream thread! Haha at the moment I'm involved in Les Miserables at a local theater... Ensemble is awesome... Anyone a member of the International Thespian Society??? (: :dancer:

My high school program is a troupe registered, so I guess I technically am xD
I'm supposed to get more involved this year now that I'm stage manager.

It's really weird being "in charge" finally :p

*gasp*

Yay theatre thread!

I only just got into my theatre department hardcore this January... What was I doing with my life before??

Just wondering... what is tech week?

Well, I don't have Tech week, but we have tech day.

Tech Day for us is the day the lighting crew really puts in all the cues for the lights, and it's just generally a day for the techies to work.. usually from 3 pm (after school) to midnight, and then the next day the actors come around noon and the techies work from 9AM - midnight, and then Sunday from 10am-11pm.

I got legit no sleep this past play (The Sound of Music).
Stage and running crew ftw.

Oh... that's odd. We just work around the actors for the most part... Sometimes we stay late, but only until 9 pm. For a play I did recently, we were painting the bricks while they were on stage. Some days there is a lot for us to do, others not so much. We basically go from after school (3:30) to about 6 on a normal day. Like I said, sometimes it's until 9, but that's rare.

That's like.. right before Hell Week, though...
We don't work during practices, typically. We work before them, we don't even see the actors until about 2 weeks before opening night.

Everything's done by the time we do rehearsals.

Bad picture but here's one of my favorite sets:
It's from Curtains! (In The Same Boat)

The two end walls rolled away, the middle two walls were rigged so we flew them out, and the center console:

The middle console spun around to become this:

Another from Curtains!

A Tough Act To Follow [it was a dream sequence]

I loved that play xD

At my school its the week before the show when everything comes together. We put lighting with sound cues with the running crew with the actors and pray that it all works out into a show. :rotfl2: But really its a week full of hard work and very little sleep

Sorry for the pic spam :p
That was my favorite year of plays, though.

And I'm very proud to say that the kids built about 95% of all that (the professional adults do one or two details to give us a hand.. like the wheel on the boat)

Same with my school. It's always so awesome to be able to work with the sets which are always beyond incredible and know that they were made by kids!

I love building them xD
I rub it in my brother's face all the time how I can use power tools better than he can.

Saws still scare me, though xD I'm NOT a fan of anything but a table saw.

Screwguns though? Heck yes!

a week of hell!!!! ur worked so hard. i've had friends loose voices during tech. and i have some tech horror stories!! the night before my first off braodway show i came down with a 103 fever. the woman playing my mother was a nurse and could tell i wasn't feeling well. i went out the next night with a 102.4 fever(i remember the number out of horror!) the stage lights dont help! i made it through, went home and passed out for 24 hrs, lol.
2) (my other off-broadway show, christmas carol the musical) we had a deep freeze winter weather advisory (december 23rd) and the heat backstage went OUT! i had 6 costume changes, all of which wern't very warm(rag doll dress, cotton blouses with skirts, ball gown, and a shall) it was so funny to see everyone backstage in winter coats, then go on stage and act like everything was normal! the worst part had to be the changes though. a leo and tights arn't exactly warm when it's 20 below!

i have a lot more stories from honk and CC (off broadway) cause they each had 2 1/2 month runs.

9 is late? omg, i've had techs last till 11:30. the set times are 5-10/10:30. my mom had to sit in the parking lot for an hour that night!

I've seen Wicked and The Lion King.
I don't remember the name of the one on the Tony Awards last night but it was about 2 gay guys and one of them ends up in the hospital and they have to face all the troubles with visitation rights because they are gay. That looks like the sweetest play ever, and I want to see it.

The one with Scarlett Johansson (sp) where her uncle falls in love with her seems interesting too. And creepy.

I've seen Hairspray in NYC on Broadway.:goodvibes

Tony's were last night! I agree, though, both the plays you mentioned looked good.
