These Are The MAYS of our Lives- The MAYers, Part VI

Hi Kim,

I am so sorry to hear about Jason's father today.

I truly understand all the thoughts and emotions you must be going through right now. I lost my mother to cancer this past June when she was diagnosed less than 45 days beforehand. Then 40 days later, my wife's mom past away after struggling with the onset dementia 7 months earlier.

Like you said, nobody is ready at any time to lose a parent.

Your family has our prayers and compassion during this season in your lives.

The Mayers are behind you 100% and don't be hesitant to share with us anytime.

Sea

PS-I hope your kids are feeling better really soon.

The worst part of the day was the phone call from Jason telling me that his mom called him at work- wish she would have waited until he was home. They diagnosed my father in law with cancer and it's pretty advanced. It looks like it started in his esophagus and had spread to his stomach. Both biopsies came back positive. They also saw masses on his liver and pancreas when they did the MRI. He goes Friday for more answers but at this point it looks like he has up to a year at most. I'm petrified that he will be in pain. We lost my grandfather a few years back to liver cancer and he was in such pain for months.
Jason seems to be doing okay for now. He visited his Dad last night and came home and took some time to himself to let it sink in a little. We're just not ready for this phase of our lives. It was hard enough to say goodbye to grandparents. I'm not ready to say goodbye to parents yet. Not that anyone is ever ready. This is going to be hard.
Sorry for bringing the sadness to the MAYer thread today but I'm having a rough one and we could use some prayers if you've got any to spare.

Hey Mari! I took Chris to the dentist on Monday and fortunately his no broken or cracked teeth. When they did the xray, they found the nerves were inflamed around the teeth, nerve trauma, so he is on motrin for the next few days. The dentist was quite shocked to to see the staple. She did a complete report for us so that we can submit to the restaurants insurance company.

Talked to the general manager of the restaurant and told him that we would be making a claim to their insurance company. He apologized profusely, but didn't offer any refunds for the meal. I am going to ask for a refund when I send over the paper work in a couple of days.

Get this: he told me he knows where the staple came from - the carton box that the lettuce was delivered in. He said that the box was near the preparation table and that it "flew off" when it was opened. Crazy.

Well, I hope your husband brings you some nice stuff from DTD! I bet he is glad that he is missing that snow your are having now.

Take care, Sea

Hey all....

Shelly - WOW that was a lot of snow.... we are suppose to get something like 11 inches tonight.

Rf - enjoy your hotel stay on the company.... LOL

Sea - Holy.... i would have been so upset if i found something like that in my food. Did they at least comp your meal? they better have....

We were suppose to get this HUGE storm on saturday and we got NOTHING... so let's see if this storm actually happens tongiht... we'll see.... boo i'm so jealous of my DH.... he's going on a mans vacation... one of his friends invited him to his house... i really couldn't say no considereing I went to NC not too long ago... but guess where his friend lives in ORLANDO.... i'm gonna have my DH go to DTD and pick me up some things.... boo me i tried getting a weekend trip for me and marissa but that didn't work out.... i'll see if i can do something... should be too expensive it only for like 3 nights.... we'll see....

It is snowing hard and we are in blizzard conditions. The wind is blowing something fierce here. We are all just hanging out and relaxing in our sweats. Andrew is still in his PJ's lounging on the sofa battling a fever still. Em's starting to feel a little better. Her fever is gone at least. She slept horribly last night which meant I did too. Today sure was a good day for a blizzard!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and prayers. I really appreciate them. We found out last night that he's been sick with pain and other symptoms for over 6 months now and never told anyone, not even a Dr. :sad2:

Mari- I'd give up a Vday gift for a gift from Disney any day! :woohoo: Good for you! "Blizzard Beach"... :lmao: definitely a true Disney fanatic!

Shelly- How's the snow up your way? Are the boys bouncing off the walls yet?

Sea, you brought tears to my eyes. I know you struggled through the holidays missing your mother, but I didn't know your wife also lost her mother at the same time or that your mom was diagnosed with cancer and that you had such a short time with her after she was diagnosed. Hugs to you both. I know it's something most of us will unfortunately face in our lives and it's something you never get over.

They didn't even offer to comp your meal AND knew exactly where the staple came from  I'd be furious! Wonder if it's a health code violation having the crate so near the food. I can't get over the fact that they knew the staple flew off and didn't bother to inspect food to look for it. Do you have to worry about Chris' gums becoming infected or anything?

Thank you Kim! :grouphug:

OMG Sea. I can't believe they admitted to knowing where the staple came from and yet didn't even offer to refund you for the meal. What jerks!

Let us know what happens. Hope Chris feels better soon.

Yes, the boys are bouncing off the walls! DS10 went outside, but not for long. It's much colder and more windy than the last snow storm. They have been doing some reading (that didn't last long either ) and playing lots of Wii!

Still snowing like crazy.

When the dentist did the examination, she did look for any punctures and cuts to the gums and mouth wall but didn't find anything. The examination was quite thorough. She used a high resolution video camera to record her findings.

Yea, it is really amazing and scary that they knew the staple flew off but didn't look for it.

I didn't think about contacting the health department about this - got a lot on my mind lately - Good idea!

Yea, I know Shelly, it really wasn't a lot either - $150. Chris is doing great - he is glad he didn't swallow that thing! Thanks for asking!

It looks like we are done with rain for now. We are expecting a warm front coming in for the weekend. Upper 70's!!! I will push some of this sunshine and warmth to you all! - Sea

That restaurant is crazy. That can be a PR nightmare for them...

AH.... stop talking about 70's weather... i'm stuck here with about 11 inches of snow.... BOO..... oh i can't wait for the spring and summer to come....

hey guys---

hope everyone is staying warm.

Kim------ I wish so badly that no one ever had to experience the pain of watching your loved one go thru what you FIL is dealing with. I'm just so very sorry and I'm praying for your family in a great abundance.

I too lost my Dad to cancer- 9 years ago in December.
Some advice? Your FIL will be going thru a lot emotionally. Ask your DH to mention to his mom a treatment for depression- something like zoloft- to help him out a bit. He is going to be dealing with a ton and this will help him with the emotional side of things.
Also, If the dr will do it-- get him on Oxycontin to control the pain asap. Morphine does nothing at all for Cancer patients pain usually. Pressure him to tell his caretakers what his level of pain is- make sure that he is assessed at regular intervals for pain. Men have a hard time asking for pain meds b/c they don't want to be seen as weak; they don't want anyone to worry about them when they are supposed to be so strong.

When the pain got intense with my Dad, we had wonderful hospice workers who scoured four counties to find Oxycontin for him. At the time it was rather new on the scene and hard to get. Make sure he has an advocate who can take one look at him and assess his pain b/c alot of time they won't tell you and you have to know the patient and go off of cues.

I'm so sorry for you and your Dh and his family----- unfortunately a lot of us have been where you are, and we're here to hold your hand and listen anytime you need us to.

Sea----- glad Chis is okay---- how are you doing?

Mari--- I'll go to Blizzard Beach with you! I associate everything with WDW too.:rolleyes1

Hope everyone has a good night- Talk to ya all tomorrow.

Great minds think alike.....

Morning all..... My school had a delayed opening... meaning I have no class today since my class was at 8am and they don't open til 12.... Darnit... this is the 2nd anatomy lab that we are missing....

Jo - as a person that has gone through everything i'm going through now do you have any little quirks to remember the anatomy.... i'm learning the skull now... all the groves, holes everything..... :scared:

Off to finish :laundy: ....

Hi everyone! It's finally stopped snowing last night. We ended up getting somewhere between 18" and 22" depending on who you ask. It's been tough to measure with all the wind blowing it around. All I know is that I shoveled my deck before it started snowing and it looks exactly the same as after the last big snow. We're enjoying another snow day of being lazy. Em's fever is finally gone and Andrew's is finally getting lower. :woohoo:

Hope everyone that got snow is staying warm!

Jo- Thanks for all the advice. He's the strong silent type so I guarantee he's not going to share too much of how he's feeling. I will definitely pass on the info. to Jason's mom when they are all up to talking more about it. I appreciate all the prayers.

Mari- Sorry you're missing school. My sister is upset her classes have been canceled all this week. Funny how you're thrilled to miss school as a kid and yet when you're grown you get upset when they cancel. It's something you're paying for and you're eager to get it done.

Hi everyone-
Kim- how is your Dh holding up? So very sorry you guys are faced with this.

Mari--- yikes- anatomy and Physiology. Hum, okay, let's see- the best advice I can give you- what helped me-- is to go to the Library- or book store and search for a Kids book- I can't remember the name of the one I had- something like "Children's Encyclopedia of the Human Body" or soemthing. It's a large book, and very detailed inside- all the systems, bones. It helped me Soooooooo much. It pulled me thru all of A&P courses. Just learn a few bones a day, go back the next day, review, add 4 more. Before you know it, you've learned them all.
It's tough- but if you can get that book- it will help you so much to "see" (It's all diagrammed in color) what you're studying, rather than just a black and white sheet. (plus you cna take it everywhere with you).
Look at this one-- http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Open-Me-Up/DK-Publishing/e/9780756655327/?pwb=1& It's not the one I had - but it looks pretty good too. It just puts things on a simplistic level that you can understand.

HTH-

Jo
