Okay, so I accidently broke a thermometer today. I can't decide if it's alcohol or mercury that is the fluid that was dropped. It has seeped into the carpet. It smells pretty nasty.

Help?

Something in my head is saying that if it is mercury a dime or a quarter will attract the mercury on to the coin.....

I'm also thinking mecury rolls in a little ball.

but I don't know why I think that. I don't know if mercury smells but most alcohol does - all but vodka :rotfl:

If it's mercury it will turn into a million little grey balls when you try to pick it up with something. I broke one once too and I called poison control and they told me not to worry about it, just to vaccuum it up. Then I asked my dr. and they said even a small amount is dangerous, so I don't know what the real truth is.

mercury is dangerous, ryan, and I know you have a little sister. if you can figure out if its mercury or not, try to clean it or call poison control.

Which kind of thermometer is it? :teeth:

!!! LMAO !!!

It was just a normal room thermometer. We've deduced (love that word) that it's just alcohol, and not mercury.
