Theres just something about that game..

I also agree that there is something frustrating about the new pirates' game. Especially when people stuck there and block the way. I find it to be really frustrating when the other team will just stick their boat on top of the flag. It makes the game take a lot longer and is really no fun at all!

I would rather do the battle game then the flag game, but I have trouble finding anyone for 3rd level battle.

:rotfl2: I am one of the ones who grabs the flag and runs! I am concentrating so hard on getting away from the shooters that I forget to shoot back! Left brain ~ right brain challenged! :teeth: I think that people don't give others a chance to choose a ship because they are trying to start the game before anybody backs out....

I understand why they do it, they have been sitting in the lobby for 5 minutes waiting for enough people to join, that is the part I find frusrating, not being able to start the darn thing when *you* want.

I am one of those who does best with guarding. I usually say, "I'll guard" when playing with people I don't know, and the people I play with often know that I'll guard. I choose the winch because I like the fire power. Yes, a woman who loves to blow stuff up!

I don't maneuver well with pirates so I am best at guarding. Find your niche and stick to it. A few times my teammates have gotten themselves blown up and I've had to run for the flag. The winch is not good for running, but a little luck and I've done it.

I've also managed to get myself blown up right out of the gate by a flag grabber and been of no use to my teammates. I feel badly when that happens, but it happens. I've also blown up two flag grabbers at once, so it all balances out.

I always try to let everyone choose their ship, which has backfired on me too, when one more person joins and we have to wait through a last joiner.

Oh, and let's not forget the ones who tell me to boot someone to make it even so we can start. I don't boot. Period. I did it once because I misunderstood someone and felt so badly about it I played like dookey. It was a guest too! There goes MY shot at community leader. Anyway, if you see me start a game and you are in a hurry, you might want to choose someone else's game.

Now, if someone could explain the battle game to me, I'd be happy. But, since I am so bad at that, and I don't want to frustrate everyone I'm playing with, I stick to capture the flag.

That's my rant on pirates. Bottom line is to know your strengths and weaknesses and play to those. And to those of you who are so competitive that you hate being around incompetence, playing an online game geared toward kids (allegedly anyway) is probably not your best choice! Go play World of Warcraft or something.

Sometimes I can kick butt at pirates and other times I'm the biggest loser. I get stuck a lot on objects in the water, or I can't see the other boats, or the boats moves in weird ways. I don't mind defending the flag, but don't yell "move" at me when it is rather obvious I'm stuck on something in the game and can't move.

The one of hardest thing I find is trying to “talk” and play the game. I have to use my right hand on the mouse, and my left hand on the arrow keys. Because my arrows keys are on the right side of the keyboard, I have to turn my keyboard a quarter turn to get my left hand near the arrow keys, and that puts the letter keys under the desk top, so it's next to impossible to talk. I’m not being standoffish, I just don’t have a third hand. :teeth: I try to be a good sport and say "gl" or "gg" but I have to unturn my keyboard to do it, and the game has either started or ended by then.

Battle game is the same as the old pirate game, you just have to out last the other team by blowing them out of the water.

(why 21 credits btw- why not an even 20 or 25?)r

Hey, I don't know the reason behind it, but 21 is divided 3 ways and you start with 7 points on each of the 3 stages of the game. That's about all I can tell you, I haven't figure out the scoring yet.

Or why there is a little scrub brush icon at the bottom of the window and why the scrub brush gets points added to it. :lmao:

In the old pirates game, I always played against the computer. While it is fun to play with/against other people, it's frustrating to wait for people to join. (I do play against the computer with the new game). One thing I have to say for "competent" players: I am not bad at this game. I can win very easily on level 1 and it is not worth my while to keep playing at that level "to get better". On the old game, I could easily win level 3. When I got to level 2 for the first time on the new game, the layout was completely new to me. I had to figure out where the ship should sail. It's not that some people don't know how to play. Part of it is strategy. Please, feel free to share some of that strategy. The only thing I know is to not use the default ship in ctf. Another problem I always seem to have is that I see no ships. So, if a ship isn't doing anything, that might be why. I try to warn my teammates that I'm blind but some people might not think of that.

Goodness! I'm even more self-conscious now about playing Pirates than I was before, knowing how super critical most of you are.

Just for the record, I play for the sheer fun if it, not necessarily to get the "win" (although that is NICE) pirate:

All I know is that when I was a level three and great at Pirates, everyone wanted to play with me and have me help them get points.

Now that I have no idea how to play, no one wants to give me that time of day. I would have thought that with all the people I helped, there might be some good karma....but I feel like I'm in high school.

Human nature at it's best....

Can't believe the hostility in this post. Wow, you ppl make me feel like I shouldn't even try and play. Is it worth it to play if this is how my "teammates" feel about newbies to the game? I play to get better but can't get better without playing, plz be patient is it not a new game to us all? I have not been on VMK much at all lately and have missed so much new stuff. I don't even know what half of all this new ride stuff and pins and such are, so when it comes to the pirate game I am way off base with how to play? Give us "newbies" a break and maybe try and teach us instead of yell at us. :thumbsup2

Appletiny, I (Cazalet) will gladly play with you anytime. But ufortuantely, I'm not very good at this game, even though I finally made it to level three. I think the game can be a lot of fun if you are playing with friends. Say four people meet up and enjoy a few games of capture the flag - that would be very fun.

I will say that when I play with strangers, which is most of the time, the yelling and mean spiritedness tends to come out. In my opinion that is what makes the new game no fun, not the changes to the game itself. Well, unless you get the bug where you can't see anything. That makes for a very frustrating game too!

So maybe we should have pirate sign ups and meet at a certain lobby at a certain time so we can at least be playing with friends, and hopefully we will have enough players to start a game.

I do wish VMK had a Pirates I Lobby, and a Pirates II Lobby and a Pirates III Lobby, so you could find other games at the level you want to play. It can sometimes take a long time to fill a game, and I am sure some other Level II person is sitting around a different lobby trying to find enough people to play too!

The most annoying thing to me is when people yell at you "move!". Hello, there is probably a reason why I'm not moving people, like maybe I can't, maybe I'm stuck, maybe the ship just isn't fast enough, or maybe it isn't part of my strategy. Moving isn't the answer to all. Besides, this is usually coming from people who have already been killed off anyway.

Being one of what would deem the hostile ones, I would like to make it clear that I have no problem with "newbies" playing. There are new players to every game, they just have to practice and learn as they go.

That said, there are different levels. If I want to play on Level 3, I expect my teammate to have at least a brief idea of how the game works. But this is not always the case. So my request is this: if you do not have a handle on the new Pirates Game, then stick in Level 1 for the time being. When you feel more confident about your skills, progress to levels 2 and 3.

Old players, if you want to play in Level 1, must realize that they may run in to a new player. Old players only play in level 1 if you have the patience to teach your teammate and obviously do not yell at them.

If we can do this, both seasoned players and new players can coexist happily.

Can I retract this statement? LOL! I just can't seem to get a handle on this game, and today I just wanted to throw my laptop across the room in frustration! :badpc: Seriously! Sorry, Rome! You did well putting up with my little temper tantrums! LOL!

Anybody else having major problems with playing this game? Gee, I can't steer, I can't shoot, I can't pick up that dumbo flag... :rotfl2:

I am the exact way! I'm almost afraid to play now because there is probably going to be someone at his/her computer yelling..."What is she doing!? C'mon now...MOVE!!" I can hear it now...after I make one mistake I can only be thankful I cannot hear what some of these people may say!

I always played for the fun of it...I better buckle down now and stress over guarding that flag or retrieving that flag because if I don't, there is "he'll" to pay! :rotfl:

LOL, this annoys me too. As if it isn't bad enough to get yelled at and told what to do by a player, it's worse coming from a team member who has already been annihilated! Like YOU'RE in a position to criticize how I'm playing the game! :rotfl:

It's also good to keep in mind that if someone is playing poorly it doesn't always mean that they're completely lousy at the game or don't know what they're doing. It might be a computer problem, or they're just having an "off" game. I know that happens to me. I'm not always consistent with how I play. Sometimes I totally kick butt, other times I can't seem to maneuver or shoot to save my life. It's just the way it is. :hippie:

If you aren't playing for the fun of it, I would like to ask what the hell is the reason you're playing ;).

LOL Boom!! I'm not entirely sure anymore.... :confused3 I guess I keep playing (and torturing myself) because I continue to HOPE that the more I play the better I will get ??

Good question! :wizard:

i just had another annoying thing happen to me in the game yesterday.. I was in level two with one of those "barks orders guys" who obviously didn't know how to play because he though that he could capture the flag with the Flying Dutchman (attention seeker?) and somehow he managed to make it between the two islands in the second stage with the flag and i went to go pass him to blast the Black Pearl ship that was tracking him and the Black Pearl's teammate had died but wasn't blowing up and he was blocking my way to get the Pearl.. what ended up was that happening both my and the ship of the "barks orders guy" were bottlenecked in between the islands (meanwhile my teammate was yelling at me for some reason or another..) i figured that the Pearl's dead teammate was afk or something since he wasn't blowing up but when we finally lost the game, the dead guy was all "haha you fell for my trick" and i was all "wow that was.. something" and he is like "well as long as it worked and i got credits" geez some people just don't understand the finer points of being a pirate.. :sad2:
