There's a knot in my stomach

My DH was informed Friday that his job contract will not be renewed next year. He works for a college. They are downsizing considerably and are eliminating his position. He's worked there 14 years. The upside to this is that his contract doesn't expire until July 31st, so he has 6 months to find another job.

We have a big Disney trip planned late June. BIL and MIL are going too and we're all excited. Final payment isn't due til end of April so at this point I'm not canceling. It just makes me sick to my stomach when I go to read the DIS boards or my guide books...knowing that I may have to cancel after all. :sad1: AND...I'm pretty sure this might be the last trip where DD is young enough to believe the characters are "real." Part of me just wants to go regardless...we have the money already set aside for it.

Just needed to get this off my shoulders to people who I know "understand."

I hope you will still be able to go. Thinking of you.

So sorry about your DH's job. I hope he will be able to find another one very soon.

I hope you won't have to cancel your trip. Your DD is at a great age now to enjoy it. Sending good thoughts your way. :grouphug:

I am so sorry you are going through this, but let me tell you I do understand.

My DH works for a hospital (the only one in the area) and back in Sept he was fired for what they said was a breach of patient confidentiality. I was freaking out!! Jobs are so hard to find here. He immediately started putting out apps at other places but it looked pretty bleak.

To top it off we had a WDW trip planned for Nov and I was thinking we would have to cancel and was so disappointed. Not for myself as much as for my kids specifically my twin girls who were 5 and so excited. They too still believed in the magic.

Well, he filed a grievance and had his day with the powers that be and they admited that he never should've been fired and thankfully he was reinstated right away. We were able to go on our trip but we did have to cut back on some things since he had been out of work without pay for almost 4 weeks total.

Things happen for a reason. Maybe there is something better out there for your DH. And as you said, he has advance warning to start thinking now what he can do later.

As far as the trip, I think you should go. No matter what. Even if you have to cut back on some activities, or souveniors, or dining out, whatever. Even if you have to shorten it by a day it's still better than nothing.

Trust me when I say this: Once you see your childs face light up with excitement you will have that memory forever, and you will never regret that. But if you don't go, I promise you one day you will look back and say "we should've just gone".

Hope it all works out. Chin up. :)
