There shouldn't be any additional charge to park hop

Why do we allow Disney to get away with this practice ? If I park my car at the MK and start my day there and then later on drive over to HS and park there and finish my day there they don't charge me again to park my car there because I've already paid to park in one of their lots for the day . The same should be true if I want to hop to 2 or more parks in one day , no additional charge should be levied because I've already paid for a days admission to their parks . Fair is fair right ? I paid for a days admission I should be allowed just like my car (lol) to hop to another park or parks if that is what I want to do . We haven't bought park hoppers in years because we feel like hopping wasted too much time but we understand why some people need or want to hop But as I stated it doesn't seem like a fair practice/charge by Disney .

I think the reason the "car hopping" is free is because it is already considered in the park hopping cost.
I think it is fair and industry standard (although Disney may have started this practice I don't know) to charge to hop across parks. And I think given the network of transportation WDW provides to enable this makes it even more of a reasonable practice than say Uni or even DL where visitors can just walk from one park to the next.
Hopping is allowing you to see a larger variety of attractions, possibly extending the park hours you can use-it is up to you to decide if you want to pay the extra $ or not.

My cable company seems to want me to pay more if I want more channels. I don't get it!

I agree - same as the airlines charging for bags. Just a way to make more money while delivering nothing more than they have already been delivering.

Except that unlike the airlines, who are operating on tighter and tighter margins, with airfares that have dropped drastically in real dollars over the last 30 years, Disney is raking in cash.

And as someone who often travels with only a carry on, I'm fine with paying less and not having a checked bag.

Careful you will get flamed by people telling you Disney is not a charity its a business. Or my all time favorite they have a responsibility to their stockholders to make as much as they can. I was glad people told me this I would have never known.;)

I agree with the posters that mentioned the hopping up charge enables Disney to control the nighttime crowds at Magic Kingdom and Epcot. When we took our first trip last summer, I had assumed one could hop and planned to do the same. I figured out prior to the trip that it wasn't permitted. So for that trip, I wanted to do it but it wasn't worth the extra money. Maybe I'll feel differently on future trips as my son gets older and more able to last longer.

Ha! I didn't mean Disney shouldn't make money!

I miss the old pricing structure too just because it was a lot less money for us for the way that we vacation and tour. We maybe do one or two Disney parks every other year. Before the Magic My Way tickets, those old multi day park hoppers with no expiration were a great way for us to go, and one ticket served us for many years. // Now with the premium for park hopping and the non expiry options on multiday tickets we just buy as we go based on what we want to do on that trip, go even less often than we used to go, and ouch (that price per day point is expensive),

In October for example we had one and only one day at Disney, and I bought the one day park hopper. I'd have to look it up, but I think these ran a little over $130 a ticket. Like others have said, though, I certainly could have had the option not to go. It was sure a lot of fun though.

Disney, though, because they are their parks has every right to define their own pricing structure and extra charges. We as the consumers can decide to buy ticket and add on options of our choosing or skip the Disney experience entirely. We as a family with that pricing structure go less often and for fewer days per trip, but still go on occasion. E.g. (Did one Disney day in 2011, did one Disney day in October 2013, will do two Disneyland days in 2015.)
