Why do we allow Disney to get away with this practice ? If I park my car at the MK and start my day there and then later on drive over to HS and park there and finish my day there they don't charge me again to park my car there because I've already paid to park in one of their lots for the day . The same should be true if I want to hop to 2 or more parks in one day , no additional charge should be levied because I've already paid for a days admission to their parks . Fair is fair right ? I paid for a days admission I should be allowed just like my car (lol) to hop to another park or parks if that is what I want to do . We haven't bought park hoppers in years because we feel like hopping wasted too much time but we understand why some people need or want to hop But as I stated it doesn't seem like a fair practice/charge by Disney .

It's their property, their rules. How do you propose to stop it?

For comparison, at the Disneyland Resort, park hopping is an additional charge as well, despite the two parks being directly across from each other.

It appears the park hop charge is a pricing model that continues to work for Disney and its guests. The only way it would stop (that I can think of) is if people stopped buying the park hop option, which seems unlikely right now....UNLESS they don't ever adjust FP+ to allow for multiple park FP+ reservations in one day. But I bet they will down the road.

Universal charges for it too, and they will soon have a "train" that goes between the two parks, requiring a park hopper pass to get on.

Were I a Disney Executive, I'd agree with you completely. I'd charge you for parking in both lots.

Disney's #1 interest is,,,,the almighty $ Think youre complaining now? wait till the new parking garage opens

1. Its a service people are willing to pay for, the people who do must find it adds value to their trip or they wouldn't pay for it. Why wouldn't Disney charge more for it?

2. There is a real cost to Disney for the Hopping. If there was no hopping there would be virtually no need for any of the transportation between the parks. At the least Disney could have dozens of fewer busses and drivers and maintenance technicians. I believe there would be a strong argument against the existence of the Epcot monorail (for it to be used ONLY for the resort monorail guests to get to Epcot seems ridiculously wasteful).

I seem to remember a time when all muti-day tickets were park hoppers, back when the tickets were called "Park Hopper Plus." Then when they came out with the "Magic Your Way" tickets, they gave the option of not having park hopping for a reduced rate along with the pricing structure that made subsequent days much less expensive. So technically, they don't charge extra for park hopping, the gave a discount for NOT park hopping. Semantics maybe, but that's how the tickets evolved.

(Someone please correct me if I am remembering wrong)

No to pick nits but, aside from the monorail, there is almost no transportation between parks.

There's park to park busses running every 20 minutes, for everything except the Epcot to the Magic Kingdom run. And for that, there's a monorail.

How do you define "almost no transportation"? Because that's not how I'd define it. ;)

That's the gist of it, yes.

If you are referring to the parking garages under construction at DTD, Disney has said that parking at DTD will remain free.

I do not remember a price drop for those not hopping. I just remember that the way that tickets were purchased changed and you had to pay extra to hop. I do not remember paying less the year after the change, and we did not hop. I could be wrong.

...I've already paid for a days admission to their parks.

Ipse dixit logic. You have only paid for a days' admission to their parks if you say you have. In their minds, you have paid for the use of one park. If you pay to get in to one National Park and then drive to another National Park on the same day, you either pay two separate admissions, or you get a National Park Pass for much more money. Your admission fee grants you access to one park. All park admission costs more. One can say that one has paid to get into all parks, but that doesn't make it so. If you pay for a single entree at a restaurant, you do not get to eat a second one for free. To do that, you would have to pay the additional fee for the "all you can eat" option. You haven't paid for the "all the parks" option, so you don't get it.

There are buses park to park as well and in the case of Epcot and DHS, a boat.

But on topic, as someone above said, the old tickets did have park hopping included and were also non-expiration.

Were I a Disney Executive, I would agree with you, too and would charge you one admission price to go to all parks and that admission price would be . . . the price of a park hopper! Goodbye single park admission price! And I would call this "enhancing the guest experience."
