During the Republican National Convention tonight, singer, Michael W Smith performed his There She Stands, a very moving piece, IMO. It says so much. We will survive, we will prevail, we are America.

Our Lady Liberty stands tall amidst the smoke and pallor of 9/11, our flag flies at our house, as it has for many years now, every day, every night. Proud to be an American, be we Democrat, Republican, Independent, whatever, we are Americans.

I'm sorry I missed the RNC on TV tonight. I'm sure it was very moving to watch. I'm on dial-up so at best the song plays at a rate of about one line at a time. But I did look up the lyrics online, very beautiful.

It reminded me of our stop at the Smithsonian this past July. They had the flag on display that was pulled out of the rubble from the Pentagaon. Also with that display were pictures of the workers getting the flag onto the side of the building.

I don't have the words to describe what it felt like to see that. It was torn and dirty but it was still important enough that the workers at the Pentagon saw fit to raise it. I took pictures if it, you were allowed to, when I get them developed I"ll try and remember to post it for everyone to see.

Thanks Dan!

Yes, Dan, that song's been around for a couple of years now. As Smitty mentioned, President Bush asked him to write it. Still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it especially the line "when evil calls itself a martyr".
I had the pleasure of meeting Michael a few years ago. What a down-to-earth person! If everything goes as planned (Frances not causing too much damage at WDW) I will see him perform next Thursday night at MK.

Thank you Dan. I love these inspirational posts you put up with beautiful pictures and music to match.

We went on a cruise last year that departed out of NYC. It was the first time my dh & I had ever been. As with all cruises there was a sailaway party going on; however, when we passed thru the harbour and saw ground zero and the area where the towers should stand, there was a hush over the crowd. Then going past Lady Liberty there were many gasps and ahs as well as tons of pictures being taken. Seeing the Statue of Liberty pretty closeup was awesome.

Thought I would add the very moving lyrics here.....

<center>There She Stands

--Michael W. Smith & Wes King

When the night / Seems to say
All hope is lost / Gone away
But I know / I'm not alone / By the light
She stands

There she waves / Faithful friend
Shimmering stars / Westward wind
Show the way / Carry me / To the place
She stands

Just when you think it might be over
Just when you think the fight is gone
Someone will risk his life to raise her
There she stands

There she flies / Clear blue sky
Reminds us with red / Of those who died
Washed in white / By the brave / In their strength
She stands

When evil calls itself a martyr
When all you hopes come crashing down
Someone will pull her from the rubble
There she stands

We've seen her flying torn and tattered
We've seen her stand the test of time
And through it all the fools have fallen
There she stands

By the dawn's / Early light / And through the fight / She stands

wow, I wasn't expecting to cry this early in the morning!! Thanks Dan for such a moving post!

You know, Dan, you have to stop posting this stuff without a Kleenex warning! ;)

I love Michael W. Smith's music. I find his music so moving. I was disappointed when you posted that he had just performed at the RNC and I had missed it. Thank you for putting the song here for us to enjoy.

Beautiful song. I saw Michael Smith and Amy Grant in concert for their Christmas Special before 9/11/01. I love his music and had no idea this song even existed. Thank you for sharing it w/ us.

Hope all goes well, madabout, I did a Night of Joy a few years back, one of my most memorable evenings at WDW, magical.

Here is a sound link for dialups

And a video link for dialups

It was indeed a very touching presentation.
