All of us know, deep down, that there is no "Magic Pill" for weight loss and fitness. Still we perk our ears when we see an add or a commercial about the latest and greatest, "Proven results" gadget or pill. We americans are probably the worlds worst, we want to believe in the technology. We spend billions on creams to get rid of cellulite and wrinkles. We spend a fortune on shampoos and soaps that will make our hair and skin radient.

The secret is right there in front of us. But we don't wanna believe it. We think the nutrition plan that the American Heart Association puts out is old school and can't possibly be as good as the latest and greatest.

Doesn't it wanna make you gag sometimes, a guy or gal with ripped abs and like zero body fat, says I got this body with just 10 mins a day of exercisie on my "Roto Jumpy", or what ever they are selling.

What is the real secret, the real magic? The secret is to believe in yourself the magic is within each of us.

We already have all the information we need. We know what foods are good for us and that we should eat small meals at least 4 times a day instead of larger meals less frequently. We know that fried anything is taboo. We know what foods we need to avoid.

We already know that moderate exercise that uses our big muscles, like walking, running and biking is the best way to get back and keep our fitness.

When you can believe in yourself and say "Heck yes I'm worth the effort". You can draw the strength you need from your own magic. We have a wonderfull support group here with the WISH, but the committment must start from within.

AMEN!!!!

You definitely have it right on!! It took be a good part of my life to learn this and now that I have I am living it. It is funny, there was this lightbulb kind of moment where it just started clicking and I "got it". I remember thinking how could I not get it before, the information and facts were always there, I just didn't embrace them. One thing I did learn was that until you are ready (really ready) to commit to yourself you can't be success for the long term. You have to realize that this is a lifetime change, not just a diet!

Thanks so much for your post!

Well said!

Yes, we can do this.

Yes, we can do this and not think of that "D" word.

Positive thoughts and forward movement!

Preach on!!!!!

How's this for a weight loss plan; eat less, eat better, and get your fat #%^ out of bed or off the couch and exercise (I'm in the Army, the art of subtlety is sometimes lost on me). I'm 39 years old, lost 28 pounds, and completed a 10k and a 1/2 marathon on the above program, in 5 months. It can be done and it's not as hard as a lot of people think it is (and it's so worth it).

What about hypnosis???

Just Kidding!! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Seriously, I love how you put this.... Everyone is always asking me what i did to lose my wieght... They want the miracle pill answer... NOPE!

You just have to make better choices, get up off the couch, and think about how you will feel TOMORROW not what you want to EAT TODAY!!:thumbsup2

Overall -- Well said and I totally AGREE!!!

I bow to the Panda's greater wisdom. :worship:

Ed--you're hard-core. :rotfl2: I have a little phrase that I use to motivate myself that I think you might like. Whenever I don't feel like doing what I should, I say, "Man Up (or Cowboy Up), M-F!" It's so silly to hear it in my head, using my voice--not to mention that my saying it totally undermines the ridiculously gendered language--that I just have to get up off the couch. And I'm always glad I did.

Then again, what does it say about me that I gained 50 pounds that I needed to lose in the first place? Or you your 28? Or the rest of us who have achieved or are achieving our weight-loss goals and are continuing to work on our fitness ones. I guess maybe it means 1) we CAN be taught and 2) maybe we serve as examples of what not to do in the first place. ;) :rotfl:
