There is no difference at Hilton Head as to direct or resale

This past weekend I was able to get a discount on my bike rentals, and purchases in the gift shop even though I have no direct points. They just asked me if I was a vacation club member. I was kinda surprised by this. Didn't need a DVC card, not that I even have one anyways, but all they do is ask you if you are a member.

I could see some people being able to lie and get the discounts as well. (our last trip they ask us too, but of course I was honest and told them we weren't) Even though this could very well change in the future, just thought I would note that for any other resale buyers out there.

In the retail world, if equipment is available and a sale is possible, than go for the sale. HHI still makes a profit even with a DVC discount applied.

I just have a feeling that they don't want to differ on resale vs. direct. Its not that much money, its just seems like they really want to help you have the best vacation possible, so therefore they just ask if you are a member. They still seem to have the Disney difference nailed down.

On my last trip, I was given the DVC discount all over the place because my reservation was tagged as "DVC Member" when it was made. Apparently, most of the point of sale systems reading the magic bands can see that flag as being set, although not all of them. I rented a boat, ate meals, and got merchandise discounts, all with the discount applied. The only location where I was asked to show the card was the food shop in the Contemporary lobby. They said their system wasn't set up to see the "DVC Member" flag in the reservation, so they needed to see the physical card. Not having the physical card or my phone with me, I bought the candy bar without the discount.

I think, in general, most CM's aren't going to split hairs on blue card versus white card, and will give you the discount whether you are supposed to get it or not.

The face to face CM's could care less about resale or direct, it's the DVD/DVC management that has fractured DVC ownership.
