The older ones worry me!
I was at work yesterday, and this 90 year old patient came back in, her car wouldn't start- obviously a dead battery. She called a few people and no one was home. I talked to her and she said she needed a jump but didn't have cables or the knowledge. I got a look from my boss that indicated I could loan her my cables, but not to get involved jumpstarting her car because I can only work 13 hours a week and she needs me for every minute of it. I was also off in twenty minutes and needed to leave right away to get my DS from preschool.
I also usually have to have my DH talk me through it, and he was busy at work so I knew a call to him would be bad even if I could get my boss to let me.
Anyway, we asked four different men to help (and a few women too) all in their fifties and sixties. Two said no flat out, one said he would try, but get this- he said he had a foreign car so the battery was on the wrong side to do it, and drove off, leaving this poor woman to beg someone else, after I told him it would be fine to position his car sideways to do it. One more really did need to get in to see the doctor.
By this time I was off, and called my DS's preschool and told them I would be late, and was dialing my DH to talk me through it, when this 17 year old kid came out of the Orthadontist's office upstairs and said "Can I help you with that ma'am?"
Horray for the youth in this world!!!
