Hey all- was just listening to a DIS podcast from a few weeks back and they were chatting about the differences between DLR and WDW. Having been to the Magic Kingdom at DL many times, I was surprised when I heard there was a walk thru tour of the Sleeping Beauty castle?!? I know by the new Boutique there is a place you can go in and see a prop book designed to look like- I assume- the book from the start of the film and a little video window you can peek into showing Maleficent down in her dungeon. But is there more?

The way they were talking on the podcast it seemed like you could actually walk thru parts of the castle and relive/see/experience moments from the movie?

Is this true? And if so, where do you go to start walking thru?

Thanks!

Yes indeed there is a walk-though. As you go through the drawbridge and enter Fantasyland, turn left. You will see a small door with an awning and sign over it. That is the entrace.

Dave blogged about it at www.disunplugged.com

(He also scooped me on the story for the show, too!)

Yep! You walk through the castle and peek into different scenes from the movie.

Stop at each of the 3 doors you find, and get really close to each one. Try opening them, and look really closely in the windows. But don't let your easily-scared/heart problem friends and relatives do this first ;).

I believe they closed it after 9/11. I'm glad to hear it has reopened. I would love to take DD through it. She will be thrilled just to walk through the castle.

This is actually the 3rd version of the castle walkthrough.

The original had still images to view telling the story.
The 2nd version that I remember from the 80's had mini AA scenes (Similar to the scenes in the Emporium windows on Main St.).

The new version is hands down the best so far and is more similar to the original concept than the one I remember from the 80's.

I have walked thru this many times over the years, its beautiful, and most recently over Easter :) the newest version is a treat. This is a favorite of DD12's. The new animation/action is really well done. You should make a point of walking thru :thumbsup2

We love the walkthru!!!! It's so beautiful! Definitely make it a must see, but be warned that the line can be long....

There was no line whatsoever around 7:30 pm when we went through last week. It was cute, my kids enjoyed all the steps, stairs and turns! Be aware that there are some "surprises" in the little windows and peekholes, lol. My 6 yr. old about fell down the stairs after one of them!

Wow - all the times I went thru as a kid (before 02 & 08) there were never lines - it was like the attraction no one knew about & ignored. Maybe bc it was boring to some & now it's not? I never thought it was boring.... :wizard:

I have never seen a line at Sleeping Beauty, and I'm at DL often.

The best time to go is near closing. You can have the whole place to yourself and really take in all the details. Even my third or fourth time through there, I was still discovering things I had never noticed before.

I got to walk through it twice when I was in Disneyland last week. It was really neat. I wish they had something similar in WDW.
There were no lines though either time. In fact the frist time I went through was Saturday night, around 6:00 or so and I was the only one in the place.

The walk-thru is great, Sleeping Beauty is my dd Malia's fav. movie, and she loved the experience. I agree with everyone to def. get a good look in all the windows n' such, watch out for the stairs though.

You guys must not go at the same times I do then. lol If/when there is a line we just come back later. The line is sort of hidden tho so maybe people just don't notice it until they want to do the walk-thru, they snake the line down under the castle and back around the water. So if you walk to FL from Rancho Del Zocalo you come into FL from the side (opposite side from Snow White's Wishing Well) you walk past the line. They start it right there and they only let a certain number of people thru at a time. The first time we saw that line we didn't realize that's what it was, the CM manning the entrance was talking to people in line so we just thought they were standing there talking until we started to go in, the CM stopped us and said, "I'm sorry, the line goes back that way" so DBF went to see how long it was and it was way back there. I asked the CM how long it would be and he said 30-45 min. So yes, there is a line at times but it may not be readily visible. If that makes sense. :) When there is a line we just wait and head back later and do it. We like to walk thru it leisurely and we like to watch the Maleficent Dragon transformation window once or twice. :)

No lines last week... walked through it 3 times--twice late in the day, once early in the day... and had the place mostly to ourselves... LOVED it!
