Yes, Virginia there is a Santa...
This has been a hard week for my eleven year old daughter. My brother, unknowingly, spilled the beans about Santa. My DD's heart was broken. I have, like many of you, worked hard to magically preserve the legend in our home. I guess maybe to a fault. I had no idea that she believed so strongly. I thought her friends might have planted a few seeds of doubt over the years. It was crushing, and I was deeply saddened for her. As for myself, I was looking forward to being Santa with my husband at least one more time...at Disney World this year! I have been heartsick about her shock and have cried a great deal with her...kinda an end to an era in her life. I am trying to think of a special way to decorate our room at the WL for Christmas. Does anyone have any sage advice on this topic? Thank you so much.

Sincerely.

At 35 y/o I am still a believer in Santa. Santa has always and will always exist because of the people in the world with good hearts. As long as one still believes in the genuine goodness of other people, Santa will live on for them. I know that it is hard to learn this lesson at 11, it is a bit later then most learn it, and as such will be more of a blow to your daughter. Just remind her that she too is responsible for making Santa exist, not only for herself, but for others as well, this might help her. My mom and dad always told me that Santa will come to our house every Christmas for as long as you believe in him. Sorry to see you can't sleep over this.

Oh, I've got tears in my eyes...I don't know what you've planned already as far as decorations...but a small tree; a new set of Disney pjs-season appropriate; ir you do stockings - stocking hangers; that's all I can think of now.

PS. I think her uncle owes Liv a very special present this year. :guilty:

I feel so bad for your daughter.

I think the thing that made our christmas visit very special was visiting the Santa in Downtown disney...he seemed as you would imagine the real Santa to be. My son was at the iffy stage with Santa before our last trip and when he met that Santa, he informed me that he was the "real" Santa...he was very magical. Not 100% sure what made us feel that way, but we all did and we were happy that he was a believer again...

So, my advice is to make sure she visits this Santa.

Sorry to hear this. But I have heard of some children helping to take part in the joy of being Santa, if they have younger siblings.

But let me say this. I am a HUGE Christmas person..love, love , love it! Always have. I remember finding out there was no Santa..and yes, I was crushed for some time..I think I was a little younger than your dd. But that same year when Christmas rolled around..I was in the spirit and ready to be part of the holiday. B/c when it comes down to it..its the "spirit" of the holidays that makes us feel good and excited inside..even as a kid.

I hope she is okay now...

Happy *early* Holidays... :wave2:

AWWWW. I'm sitting here at work tearing up... :) It is tough to see your babies having to grow up and realize that alot of their magic isn't really "magic" afterall. I went through this with my now 13 year old. I remember our first "santaless" Christmas, it almost felt like something was missing. I also have a 6 year old so we still get to have all the fun things: Santa, easter bunny etc. but I DREAD her getting older.

I wish I could keep them young and carefree forever. :) When I see my 6 year old and all she does is want to play and giggle and cuddle Ijust don't want that to change :sad1: I always tell them "you guys need to stop growing!" and of course my 13 year old is like whatever mom you've lost it but my 6 year old is like okay I'll just live with you forever mom!!

So I know it's tough but you guys will get through it, I'm sure you guys will have a magical Christmas! After all you'll be at Disney World!! :goodvibes

In my house, if you believe in Santa, then Santa will believe in you- I still believe & he still visits me each year! :) Sorry your daughter was disallusioned but hopefully she can find other ways to find Santa in the Christmas season & maybe be Santa in the Christmas Season.

The best part is that y ou will be in Disney for Christmas - why not visit each of the countries and hear how the season is celebrated? I loved that part - Could you try and do some of your traditions at home in your room? Maybe a tabletop tree in the room. Christmas can be as magical as you want to make it & being in Disney is halfway there already!

In our house, Santa has always just brought things that fit in the stocking. "Santa" filled my stocking at my mother's house until the Christmas I got married. Just because the secret is out doesn't mean the spirit of Santa can't live on.

I'm sure any day now my girls will stop "believing". My dds are 11,11, and 8. Pretty sure they all know the truth, but don't want to spill the beans for fear the goodies will cease.

Thank you for all of the lovely thoughts and ideas. They gently remind me that nothing goes on forever...as much as we would like it to. The park closes at the end of each day and we have to go home even if we don't want to. Some of us will easily head back others will go kicking and crying. The human condition and what we do with it is an amazing thing. I am grateful for the input. I am anxious to see "what's around the river bend". Thank you for your help.

Best Wishes to you all!
