BREAKING NEWS!!!

WE HAVE JUST LEARNED THAT THE RENOVATION TO THE BEACH CLUB LOUNGE WILL BE STARTING ON MONDAY AUGUST 4. WHILE THE WORK IS BEING DONE, THE PRESIDENTIAL SUITE WILL SERVE AS THE LOCATION OF THE LOUNGE FOR ANYONE STAYING CLUB LEVEL.

Beach Club Renovation:

About every five years the halls and rooms of EVERY resort at WDW get renovated. There are two types. Soft goods and hard goods. Last time the Beach and Yacht Clubs underwent renovation (2008/2009) it was a soft goods rehab.

Renovations on the outside (painting, siding, roofing and all maintenance) are done as needed.

The upcoming refurb will be a hard goods renovation. Rooms will be stripped down everything from new sinks, new air conditioning units, new everything pretty much except the TVs are probably staying since they are fairly new.

The work will start with the renovation and expansion of the Club Level lounge. While the work is being done, club level offerings will be available in the Presidential Suite. After the lounge is completed, work will move onto the actual rooms on the 5th floor. Then, the work will continue on other rooms, floor by floor, until they have all been renovated.

We do not have a timetable about how long it will take to complete each section of the resort.

As of this time, we don't know when the work on the lounge will be completed or when the rooms wills be started. Guests with club level reservations in October were contacted in mid-March were given the option of either moving to a non-CL room at the Beach Club or relocating to the YC CL. Based on this information, there is a good chance that the work on the lounge will starting in late summer/early fall.

In May, a guest who will be staying at BC CL at the end of September (9/20 to 9/27) emailed the IPO to ask when the BCR refurb would be taking place. Here is the response received from a Yacht & Beach Concierge Itinerary Planner:

"At this time the Beach Club Lounge will be under refurbishment while you are staying with us. The lounge during that time will be in an alternate location on the 5th floor. Please let us know if there is anything else we may assist you with."

The work will be completed with the least amount of disruption possible to guests. Sections of rooms will be taken out of service while the renovations are taking place. All noise work is done between 9AM and 5PM (when people are at the pool or at the parks). Chances are guest won't really see the areas where work is happening.

We have been told that when the Beach Club renovation is about 75% complete, work will start on the Beach Club Villas. We are not sure what kind of renovations will happen there yet. After the BC renovation is complete, work on the Yacht Club will begin. We have also recently learned that the BC lobby will probably also be part of the refurbishment process. Presumably after the rooms are done, but I am only speculating about that!

As we receive more definitive information, we will post it here.

Introduction to Disney's Beach Club and Yacht Club

A sandy white beach along Crescent Lake creates a feeling reminiscent of the lazy days of summer along the eastern seaboard. Relaxed yet luxurious, Disneys Beach Club Resort shares an array of amenities with its sister resort Disney's Yacht Club Resort just a few feet away a sandbottom pool, health club, full service marina and a beachfront promenade with direct access to Epcot as well as the unique shops and restaurants at Disneys BoardWalk entertainment district. Classic surroundings capture the essence of New England luxury at the upscale Yacht Club Resort. Its comfy chairs, hardwood floors and shafts of sunlight streaming into a welcoming lobby invite you to linger.

The Beach Club and Yacht Club are similar resorts in terms of service and amenities, and have equal access to the shared pool complex, health club and video arcade. Both resorts have the same management team in place.

Some minor differences have been noted by guests:

Beach Club
Lighter, beachy decor in lobby and rooms
Lobby can be active and lively with families waiting for meals at Cape May
Closer to EPCOT and Marketplace Gift Shop
Approximately 50% of rooms in all room categories have full balconies. The remaining are standing balconies.

Yacht Club
Darker woods and nautical decor in lobby and rooms
Lobby is more serene
Convention attendees are more likely to be booked at YC
Closer to Hollywood Studios and Friendship Boats
Most rooms have a full balcony

Want more details about the differences between the two resorts? Check out this awesome blog post (November 2011) from The World of Deej:

Resort Map

Transportation

Motorcoach transportation is available to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach.

Water launch is available to Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Boardwalk, and the Swan and Dolphin Resorts.

Each boat makes the full circuit.
EPCOT Int Gateway -> Boardwalk Inn -> Yacht & Beach Club (shared dock) -> Swan & Dolphin (shared dock) -> Disney Hollywood Studios
Disney Hollywood Studios-> Swan & Dolphin -> Yacht & Beach Club -> Boardwalk Inn -> EPCOT International Gateway

The Yacht & Beach Club boat dock was closed for refurbishment in March 2011 but is now open again.

Walking is also an option to DHS and Epcot!

The walk to Epcot takes about 5-10 minutes depending on your pace.

The walk to DHS will take you a little longer but it is a beautiful walk! The distance from the Beach Club to Hollywood Studios is a little over a mile.

Here's a suggested shortcut if you get to the Boardwalk from the Beach Club side: when you are at the Boardwalk Inn, just before the Wyland Galleries store, is a little opening that leads out to their Luna Park pool area, which you can use as a short cut for getting to the Hollywood Studios walkway and there will be a sign saying which way to go. This way you don't need to walk past the whole Boardwalk area.

Alternatively, you can access the path by walking all the way to the end of the Yacht Club and crossing the bridge there.

Here's a map created by Robo that explains the walking paths from DHS to Epcot, and places in between, illustrated in colorful detail:

Thanks, Robo, for permitting me to post this extremely helpful picture!

Here is one more map, showing the EPCOT Resort area and walking/running distances around Crescent Lake:

Taxi Cabs are readily available to guests and can be hailed by one of the valet CMs outside of the Yacht or Beach Club lobby front entrances, however...

If you are traveling directly from the Y&BC to MK, the Disney bus will take you directly to the front entrance of the park, but if you drive, or take a taxi cab, you must park/get out at the TTC and either use the express monorail or ferry boat to get to the park

Here is one website link to help you determine the estimated cabfare from point to point during your trip: Taxi Fare Finder

As with any Disney resort, travel to and from DTD can be torturous. We have not found the buses TO DTD to be all that bad but we HATE the buses that return from DTD to BC. The trip takes forever since the buses often stop at a water park, or change drivers, or make dropoffs at all of the EPCOT resorts, or all of the above. And the DTD return buses are always crowded. Always.

To avoid frustration, my family usually takes a boat to one of the DTD resorts, then a bus to EPCOT, where we enjoy a few attractions before returning to our BC room. It really breaks up the travel. Note: Park Hoppers required. I describe this method in great detail at the end of the FAQ post.

Alternatively, a taxi back to the BC would probably be around $20 including tip, and worth every penny!

IMHO, taking a taxi TO Typhoon Lagoon is also a good call, since the buses make DTD stops before going to the waterpark.

Stormalong Bay Pool and Flying Jib Slide

Stormlong Bay is a beachside water park that offers up 3 acres of aquatic fun for the whole family. Catch currents in an expansive sand-bottomed pool or a lazy circular river, explore the "Shipwreck" and slide down one of the highest hotel waterslides at Walt Disney World Resort, or simply lie on the elevated tanning deck and soak up the sun's golden rays. With 750,000 gallons of water comprising an impressive complex of pools that range from swirling to placid every member of your family can find a place to make a splash at Stormalong Bay. Guppy Bay Kiddie pool lets even the youngest of guests in on the fun.

Stormalong Bay Pool

BCpool1-1.jpg

Thanks for the picture missyrose and pixeldust

Legend has it that a gigantic sailor named Stormalong came along some time ago and took these parts by storm, running his great ship aground where Stormalong Bay now stands. His mighty vessel plowed into the shoreline in a fierce nor'easter, tearing into the sand and creating the pools and waterways of Stormalong Bay.

There are also 3 Quiet Pools located at the resort.

Pictures and information about the Shipwreck Jib Slide, Guppy Bay Kiddie pool, the Quiet Pools and hot tubs appear in the next post.

SABgoogleearth2.jpg

THANK YOU so much to skelooch for providing this incredible labeled birds-eye view of Stormalong Bay!!!

please note that the playground equipment labeled above has been removed recently.

Stormalong Bay received the 2004 Disney Magazine Reader's Choice Award for Favorite Walt Disney World Resort Pool!!!

Hours:

The hours at Stormalong Bay are determined by the BC/YC recreation managers and are often based on factors like crowd level, time of year, weather, etc. so it is difficult to predict the hours, particularly the closing time at night

Opening used to be at 10 am, but we have had reports from March 2014 that the opening time is 9 am (closing of 11 pm reported in March 2014) (closing of 11 pm reported in May 2014)

Posted hours of the Quiet Pools are 7 am to 11 pm

Refurbishment News:

Some areas of Stormalong Bay may be closed during the winter months for scheduled maintenance, but there will always be a portion of the pool open for resort guests, weather permitting.

Jan. 16-25, 2013: Stormalong Bay feature pool slide will be closed for refurbishment. Stormalong Bay Pool will be open during this time. Guests can use the slide at Luna Park Pool at the Boardwalk Resort.

Feb. 1-12, 2013: Stormalong Bay kiddie pool slide will be closed for refurbishment.

Please note: ALL MEMBERS of your party must bring their room keys to Stormalong Bay for admittance!

DVC members who are staying at other resorts are not permitted to use the pool.

Child and adult life jackets are permitted in the pool and are available at no charge poolside at SAB. If SAB runs out of adult life jackets or doesn't have them for some reason, the marina can provide life jackets for use at SAB at no charge.

For everyone's safetey and enjoyment, diaper-age children are required to wear swim diapers or rubber pants when using any pool at WDW. Swim diapers available for purchase at the Beach Club Marketplace

Reports from guests visiting Stormalong Bay indicate that Poolside Gifts is no longer a sales area. Tubes for the lazy river and pool have been available in the water up for grabs without a rental fee which has been met with mixed reactions from swimmers.

In the next few weeks, I will try to gather and post information about what items may be purchased at the Beach Club Marketplace (pool noodles, sunglasses, sand toys, sunscreen, swim diapers, etc) and whether there are poolside lockers and where you can get a key.

If you have any information to share, please post on the main thread. Thanks!

********************************************************************************

According to a lifeguard, July 2010:
Outside floats are not permitted for adults in SAB. Pool noodles, either from home or purchased at the pool gift shop, may be used in SAB. Young children may use floats that surround their body if an adult is within arm's reach. These rules are subject to change and may be affected by crowd conditions.

There are reports that as of March 2014, the locker room and showers in the health club are only available to Spa Guests. As we get more information we will post it here. There are lockers available for use at the pool near Beaches & Cream, and outdoor showers (WHERE?) available for guests to use.

Stop the Hop!!!

In the past, after hours checking of room keys and wristbands at SAB has been inconsistent in the evening hours. Last summer admission was scrutinized the whole time the pool was open. As a guest of the Beach Club or Yacht Club resort, if the policy of Guests Only admission to SAB is important to you, please let the GM of the resorts know this!

You may write to:

Mim Flynn, General Manager
Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts
1800 EPCOT Resort Boulevard
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

If enough letters are written to Ms. Flynn about this subject, hopefully it will ensure that SAB admission will once again be scrutinized after 5 PM every day.

Shipwreck Jib Slide

FAQ: Are children permitted to wear a floatation devices on the Jib Slide?
A: Yes, subject to the life guard's discretion.

Please note that adults are not allowed to wait at the exit of the larger pool slide.

The Jib Slide had emergency repair work for a few days, Sept 2012

P7120297.jpg

How do I get from the Jib Slide exit to the entrance of the slide? by pixarmom

To enter the line for the Jib slide, you have to actually go out of the pool area entirely. Once on the slide, you go under not 1, but 2 waterfalls that will definitely dump water on your head. The slide ultimately feeds into 4 feet of water and you come down with such force that you will go under water (unless wearing a vest). The exiting part of the slide is in a roped off area of the pool and a lifeguard will be sitting there. That guard will likely keep others out of the roped off area, so parents are not allowed to "catch" their children coming off. Depending on how adventurous your kids are, you might want to go with them the first time.
The kiddie area of SAB with the little beach area to play on is on the complete other side of where the slide ends. You'll need to determine your comfort level with older kids going on the slide (then exiting the pool area to go on again and again) if you're with a younger child in the kiddie area. That's the one thing I didn't like about SAB. It's so big, it can become difficult to supervise all of your different age kids simultaneously with the many different sections. Maybe this is an issue for others, maybe not, but I thought it deserved mentioning.

With regards to the Jib slide and younger kids...if you stand around where the slide comes out you can walk with them to the pathway where they cross over and watch them go up then walk back to the pool. You'll make it back well before they get down, since there are always at least a few people in line and it's a long way down. Also if you go before your child, you could wait towards the rope for them, the lifeguard may or may not usher you away quickly.

Here's a couple of pictures of the entrance to the Jib slide and Guppy Pool area:

Here's a description and pictures of the Tye-Dye Mickey Shirt activity:

The Mickey T-shirt activity is making a tie-dye Mickey t-shirt (with the Hidden Mickey outline in the center). The recreation CMs have already rubber banded the t-shirt for that particular design. You get to pick your colors and apply them to the shirt. DD8 did it last September and it was $17.95. I helped her with it, it was a lot of fun, and her shirt turned out to be very cute. I saw mostly kids doing it, some with parents, but I think that anyone could do it. They wrap your shirt in plastic wrap then put it in a ziploc bag for you. When you get home, you just have to rinse it out and wash it. The longer the color stays on the shirt, the more intense it is. We charged it to the room on our KTTW card and it showed up as babysitting charges.

If you are a DVC member, ask about a discount on this activity.

I've done the mani/pedi at Periwigs.. DD has had a massage at the Ship Shape Club. DD said it's the best massage she's had and she's had a lot!! I forget the name of the girl, but my daughter said she was so good that she actually went back a few days later for another! The mani/pedi was not what I'm used to... I always have that done before I go to Disney. I have however had reflexology at SSR and that was pretty good.

Albatros Treasure Cruise
Little buccaneers sail the high seas to exotic "Ports of Call" along Crescent Lake and EPCOT in search of treasure. Pirates must be ages 4 to 12.

Albatross Treasure Cruise Reviews:

Pirates Cruise Review- At World's End

Nole95, May 2013:
In regards to the Pirate cruise, I highly recommend it. The kids did it on Wednesday morning and had a blast. Even though it poured on them at the beginning of the trip, they did not complain about getting soaked. Since there was no lightning, the trip continued on. The cast members were great and made sure all the kids had fun. Great way for mom and dad to have a couple hours of quiet time in the middle of the trip.

Mmrules:
Last summer I sent my sons ages 4 and 6 on this cruise and it was one of the highlights of the trip!!! The woman "pirates" were awesome! They played the parts well and made boarding the boat very easy for my boys (the 4 year old doesn't socialize easily). They heard the legend of the treasure, docked at Canada in Epcot (while it was empty) and found treasure there. THen they chased the bad pirate on their boats. They also got some "loot" when the cruise was over. It was great and I am going to sign them up again next summer when we go!!! He would love it!!!

Disneymomx7:
My kids and my grandkids have done the Albatross Cruise and LOVED it. My kids like it even better that the Pirate Cruise from the GF and my dgs said it was his favorite part of his Disney trip!!!!

Drmomof3:
My children did it in August, 2010. Jessica was 4 and Nathaniel was 6. There were plenty of "solo" children on the cruise and they both made friends. It was definitely a highlight of the trip for them and it gave me some quality time with my neglected 3rd child (he wasn't old enough).

Laundry Information :laundy:

Self-service laundry rooms are located near the BC quiet pool (near room 1532) and near the YC quiet pool. Another small laundry room may be found on the first floor of the YC, near the side exit (wedding gazebo side).

The laundry room at the Beach Club by the quiet pool now has 3 brand new GE commercial washers and 1 triple loader plus 8 new dryers (October 2013).

Washers are front loaders. According to repairmen working on disabled washers, HE (High Efficiency) detergent should be used in the machines. Regular laundry detergent is available for purchase in the laundry room ($1) or at the Beach Club Marketplace ($2). Don't forget to pack a few dryer sheets.

Both washers and dryers cost $2.00. Washers run for about 30 minutes. The sign in the laundry room says the dryers run for 20. Users have reported the dryers run for up to 30 minutes on regular and permanent press cycles.

I wanted to mention, there is a girl who works in Captian's Grill named Meghan.. She was a former princess ( Giselle in the parade, aurora, Cinderella) she is the sweetest person and if you have kids, she is fantastic for interaction with them... She is fantastic and super sweet. She has an Instagram account where she posts old pictures of herself as a princess disneyfitgirl. I make a point to see her (she works weekends) so I thought I would pass that on.

Epcot Resort Area Counter Service Options (BW/YC/BC)

Here is a link to pictures of the menus at various CS restaurants around the EPCOT resort area. Thanks, Pixarmom!

EPCOT resort Counter Service Menus

The info below is from a sticky on the DIS restaurant forum. Thanks, TDC Nala!!!

ON DDP:
Breakfast: Beach Club Marketplace, Boardwalk Bakery, continental breakfast at Ale & Compass lounge (YC) and Belle View Lounge (BW)

Other meals:
Beach Club Marketplace, Boardwalk Bakery, Hurricane Hannas (BC/YC pool, open during pool hours, wristband admission to Stormalong Bay pool area is NOT required)

Snacks: above plus Seashore Sweets (BW) and the stores at each resort

I do not know if you can use snack credits for any food items that may be available at the Leaping Horse Libations pool bar at BW, someone else may be able to post that.

NOT ON DDP:
Picabu cafeteria (Dolphin), Boardwalk kiosks (Boardwalk Joe's, Boardwalk To Go, Funnel Cakes, Boardwalk Pizza Window)

Here is a link to the menu for Picabu at the Dolphin resort:

Picabu Menu

If you have park admission, you can also visit CS restaurants inside Epcot or Hollywood Studios.
Most of these are on DDP except for a couple of kiosks at Epcot

Refillable Mugs

Refillable Mugs may be purchased and filled at the Beach Club Marketplace (self-serve station), Beaches and Cream (CM assisted service, get into the ice cream takeout line), Hurricane Hanna's (self-serve station) and the Ale and Compass Lounge in the Yacht Club resort (coffee/tea self-service, juices and soda behind the bar, until 12 Noon).

During the 2012 refurbishment of Hurricane Hanna's, there is an additional refill station set up in the arcade with the Grab and Go food options.

Pizza Options at the Yacht & Beach Club:

1) Flatbreads are available in the Beach Club Marketplace which is open from 11 am until 11 pm. See photo above for picture of the flatbread.

2) The Yacht Club and Beach Club In-room Dining Service will deliver pizza to your room.

In Room Dining Menu Link- from allears website: In Room Dining Menu

If you are on the dining plan, you may redeem 2 Adult Table Service Credits for 1 Pizza Entrée, 2 Single Serve Non-alcoholic Drinks and 2 Desserts. According to the dining plan brochure, gratuity is included.

IMHO, this is a relatively expensive way to satisfy your pizza craving!

3) The Boardwalk Pizza Take Out Window is a short walk or boat ride away Boardwalk Pizza Take Out Menu

4) Local pizza restaurants will deliver to the resort.

You will need to meet the delivery person in the lobby to pay for and pick up the food.

Here is a thread with pizza delivery information: Pizza Delivery at Disney World

I have personally never ordered from any of the places listed, but these were a few area pizza restaurants recommended by posters on the thread:

Giordanos: (407) 397 0044

Westgate Pizza Hut: (866) 438-2507

Papa Johns: (352) 243-1800

Flipper's Pizza: (407) 938-9633

Under NO circumstances should you order from any place that slips flyers under the door of your resort room (at Disney or elsewhere).
This is a common scam where you are asked to provide your credit card number and you may be charged much more than you authorize.

Dining at the Yacht and Beach Club for Guests with Special Dietary Restrictions

Review of the Beach Club Marketplace from the The Disney Food Blog
Lots of information about ingredients in the baked good and links to resources within Disney for families with food allergies or special dietary needs.

If you have any tips about dining safely at the resort for people with food allergies, gluten-free diets or lactose intolerance, please share them on the main thread and I will post the info here. Thanks!

From Wood Nymph, April 2014

"We had breakfast twice at the Captain's Grill and I was able to get gluten free Mickey waffles one morning and gluten free toast another morning. Both times I had ordered the breakfast buffet, which also had plenty of gluten free choices."

Detailed balcony information on Deluxe Concierge Rooms from guests who have stayed there and reported back:

There are six deluxe Concierge rooms at BC.

1557 has a patio and lots of windows.
2557 and 4557 have extra large balconies.
3557 has the standing room only balcony.

3691 has both a standing room balcony and a full balcony
4681 has a standing room only balcony.

So 3 of the 6 have full balconies, 1 has a patio, and 2 have standing room only balconies.

Room Numbers: I hesitantly post this map. Please use with caution. It is outdated, pre resort rehab and prior to the addition of the Beach Club Concierge Lounge (the lounge is now on the 5th floor where you see the word "ICE"). The view categories are also different. When this map was created, there were only standard view rooms and water view rooms (no garden view), so many of these rooms now have a different view category than what is indicated on this map.

Beach Club Disney Zone Map

I started up three View Threads in the Resort Photo Subforum for BC, YC and BCV:

Beach Club Room Views

The purpose of these threads is to give some samples of rooms in various view categories (standard, garden, lagoon/pool) at the Yacht and Beach Clubs.

Please note that we generally do not recommend that you request a particular room number for your stay at the resort, but instead let the room assigner know what is most important to you.

Step-Saving Super Secret Entrance to the Beach Club

There is a side entrance/exit to the Beach Club which takes you mere steps, probably 3 minutes, from the International Gateway Entrance. It is near room 1501.

This was really handy for us a couple of times this summer when it was wicked hot and when it had just started pouring.

You have to go through a lot of hallways to find it, so the best way to do this is to follow the signs to room 1501 from the lobby.

Room Numbers: I hesitantly post this link. Please use the map with caution as it is outdated, pre resort rehab. The view categories are also different. When this map was created, there were only standard view rooms and water view rooms (no garden view), so many of these rooms now have a different view category than what is indicated on this map.

The purpose of these threads is to give some samples of rooms in various view categories (standard, garden, lagoon/pool) at the Yacht and Beach Clubs.

Please note that we generally do not recommend that you request a particular room number for your stay at the resort, but instead let the room assigner know what is most important to you

Shortcut from BCV to EPCOT
(Thanks for this info Best Aunt)

If you are staying at BCV, you need to know about the Shortcut more than the Secret Entrance. In this photo, the green building is BCV. The blue building is BC. When you leave BCV and want to go to Epcot, you don't have to walk all the way to the lobby and then out the back. Head toward the BC, but look for the path between the green building and the blue building.

Walk down the path until you get to the point shown here where you can't walk straight anymore (because you would walk into the bushes). Turn RIGHT. This is tricky. Your instincts will tell you to turn left, because you know that Epcot is to the left.

Go all the way to the end, and then turn left again. This also is tricky. The path will be so close to the patios of the first floor rooms that you will think you made a mistake and went the wrong way. You didn't.

Follow that path until you reach the gate. The gate will let you out on the main path. Stop and look at where you are, so that you will be able to find the gate on your way back in. Then turn left to get to Epcot.

I suggest doing it in daylight the first time.

There is a wonderful thread here on the DIS devoted to Concierge/Club Level at all of the Disney Deluxe resorts:

Concierge/Club Level Information- Part IV, July 2012

Info about Rooms:

I believe that the regular (non-deluxe, non-suite) Concierge Rooms follow the same layout and are approximately the same size as the rooms in the regular resorts. All regular CL rooms are on the same floor as the lounge (5th floor), accessible by special key-card elevator access.

The Deluxe Rooms and Suites may be on other floors of the resort, but still have access to the Concierge Lounge.

August 2014:

The BC Concierge Lounge has been temporarily moved to the Presidential Suite while renovations are taking place. The lounge will remain in its previous location, but will be larger by expanding into the areas of one or two former guest rooms.

I was given a very brief tour of the temporary Concierge Lounge in the Presidential Suite. I snapped a few pictures, but I didn't want to disturb the people who were in there.

Differences between YC/BC, Room Views, Balconies, Daybeds, Room Requests, Online vs. In-person Checkin, Magic Bands, Pool Questions, Secret Exits, Refill Mugs, Ordering Water/Groceries

What are the differences between the Beach Club and the Yacht Club?

The World of Deej: BC vs. YC

Pixarmom's comparison of BC and YC

What will the view from my room be?

Effective with reservations on January 1, 2011, the view categories at the Beach and Yacht Clubs were reclassified into 3 booking categories:

Standard view- parking lot or rooftops
Garden view- something green- trees or courtyard
Lagoon or Water view- lake or pool

I started up three View Threads in the Resort Photo Subforum:

Beach Club Room Views

Yacht Club Room Views

Beach Club Villas Room View

The purpose of these threads is to give some samples of rooms in various view categories (standard, garden, lagoon/pool) at the Yacht and Beach Clubs.

Please note that we generally do not recommend that you request a particular room number for your stay at the resort, but instead let the room assigner know what is most important to you:

Full Balcony?
Close to Elevator?
Close to Lobby/Pool/Transportation?
Daybed?

If you request a particular room number, and that room is not available on the day you are checking in, the room assigner may not know the attributes of the room you want, so you may not get the room that best suits your needs.

Will I have a full balcony?

Almost all of the rooms at the Yacht Club have a full balcony. A few rooms have extra large balconies that may be shared with another room.
About 50% of the rooms at the Beach Club have full balconies with a table and two chairs. The remaining 50% have standing or "Juliet" balconies.

If you are staying at the Beach Club and a full balcony is important to you, you should have "Full balcony, please" as your first or only request.

When you check-in at the desk, ask about your balcony and if you are not happy with it, ask if there is a full balcony available. CMs will try their best to satisfy you. Don't do the advanced online check-in. This is for guests who will just pickup their key and go, no questions asked and is not designed for people who may request changes to their assigned room.

Here are a couple of pictures. The first one by pittpantherfan shows BC patio, full and Juliet balcony rooms.
The second picture by Natebenma shows a full size balcony:

balconiesandpatios-1.jpg
IMG_2717-1.jpg

Balconies at BCV:

You will have at least one balcony when staying at the BCV's. All of the BCV studios have balconies. All of the villas have a balcony off the living room. Most, but not all, of the master bedrooms have a balcony. Some of the balconies are bigger than others, depending on what floor you are on and location.

Here is a photo that I've copied from the photo thread and you can see the different size balconies and the master bedrooms that just have a window instead of a balcony.

DSCF0572.jpg

Here's another shot of the balconies at BCV's I made in 2013. First floor=patio. Second floor=large balcony all the way across. We were on the third floor. No balcony in bedrooms but a larger one in living room. And fourth floor=three small balconies each.

And guess what. This layout is not the same throughout. We were on the road side this year (Rm 352) and there different layouts on the other floors.

I doubt if the architect that designed this place had any idea how much trouble he/she was going to cause us…..

Will my room have a daybed?

Some rooms at the Beach and Yacht Club have daybeds. You may request a room with a daybed, but it is not guaranteed. You may also request a rollaway cot to your room when you arrive. This is provided free of charge and is subject to availability.

There are two types of daybeds - one that fits a normal sized adult and the other that is best suited for a small teenager or a child. There is no way of knowing at the front desk which type of daybed is in what rooms. It's totally luck of the draw and the CM can't tell you which is in your room if you get a room with a daybed.

Daybeds

Some rooms have daybeds, which may be requested when you make your reservation, but are not guaranteed. Families of 5 (over the age of 3) are given priority access to the rooms with a daybed.

You may also request a rollaway cot to your room when you arrive. This is provided free of charge and is subject to availability.

How do I make a request on my reservation? How many requests should I make? What should I request?

You should note any requests on your reservation through Disney's CRO (Central Reservation Office) or your travel agent can add it when your trip is booked, or anytime thereafter. Requests should be made no later than 2 weeks before you will arrive at the resort.

Please remember that requests are not guaranteed.

The fewer requests you have, the more likely there will be a room available that meets your most important preference(s).

Your best bet is to request what you want in words, not room numbers. The chance that a particular room will be available during your trip is not as likely as finding a room that satisfies your room preferences. If you request a specific room, and there is someone staying in the room on the day you check in, the room assigner will have to place you in a different room. If they don't know what your priorities are, they will have trouble giving you another room that has the attributes you want.

When you arrive at the resort for checkin, you can ask before you take your keys if your requests were granted, and if not, see if there is anything available that meets your needs. Please note that you should do this through REGULAR checkin.

Online checkin is designed for grabbing your keys and going, no questions asked, so if there is a possibility you will ask for a room change, you shouldn't do this.

There may not be a room available with the request you made when you check in (e.g. full balcony, daybed, king bed). If your request is important enough that you are willing to change rooms later in the week, ask when a room will be available and see if you can arrange to switch rooms.

Requests vary because what is important to one family may be different for another family. Some popular requests are full balcony at the Beach Club, a day bed, close to lobby (or elevator or Stormalong Bay), close to Concierge Lounge (if you are staying club level) or close to EPCOT.

Should I checkin online in advance or wait until I am at the resort?

This entry will probably be evolving as we discover more about the impact of 60 day checkin, Magic Bands and Fast Pass Plus.

As noted in the responses above, if you don't have any questions and if you are going to just grab your keys and go, then you are great candidate for the online checkin. If there is a possibility that you will ask for a room change because you are not satisfied with the one that has been assigned to you, then you should wait until you arrive at the resort to check in.

60 Day Online Checkin/My Disney Experience

Confirm arrival and departure times

Pick PIN numbers to use for park and resort purchases

There is also an option of clicking a box which said they would possibly allow early entry to a room prior to 3 but it might override room requests.

Request for a day bed does not appear to be an option you can request through on-line checkin.

Info from Andre on the POR subforum (March 2013)

The main benefits of 60 day checkin are:

You can register your credit card and create a PIN number for all your key-to-the-world cards in advance;
(however, you may want to wait until you check in at the resort to pick your PIN if you are apt to forget it)

Nothing to take up time at the front desk (your welcome pack, key-cards and room number will be put together a few hours before your stated arrival time, so it's all there waiting for you even if you are checking in quite late);

When MagicBands are introduced, they will have been pre-made for you in your chosen colours and with your names on (otherwise you'll get generic grey ones set up at the front desk);

You might even get 'Mobile Lobby' checkin service, where they can check you in using an iPad, rather than even needing to queue for the desk at all.

The room assignment team suggests it too by the way, they say it generally speeds the whole process up for you.

What do you know about Magic Bands? How is FP+ going to work? When is this all happening???

ARGH!!! Your guess is as good as mine. Much like an ostrich with its head buried in the sand, I haven't really been paying much attention to what is going on.

But as I find info or links, I'll post them here. Let me know if you find anything interesting or definitive on the subject.

Pool Questions

Can you tell me the hours for Stormalong Bay pool?

Not really.

The hours at Stormalong Bay are determined by the BC/YC recreation managers and are often based on factors like crowd level, time of year, weather, etc. so it is difficult to predict the hours, particularly the closing time at night

Opening used to be at 10 am, but we have had reports from March 2014 that the opening time is 9 am (closing of 11 pm reported in March 2014)

Posted hours of the Quiet Pools are 7 am to 11 pm

My trip is in December (November/January/February). Will it be warm enough to swim in SAB?

That depends. Where are you from?

The weather and temperature in Florida can vary greatly in the winter months. One day you are bundled up in coat and wool hat. The next you are in shorts. You can have extreme conditions in the same week.

The pools at Disney are all heated. The problem is usually not when you are in the pool, but it is the air temperature when you get out. Make sure you have a towel close by.

There is certainly a chance that one or more days of your vacation will be warm enough for swimming. As Scar so eloquently sings in the Lion King "Be Prepared!"

Pack your swimsuit and hope for the best!

Can I bring a float from home to use at Stormalong Bay?

According to a lifeguard, July 2010 (and confirmed periodically):

Outside floats are NOT permitted for adults in SAB. Previously, floats were available for rent for $3/hour or $10 day. Beginning in 2013, floats are available for use without a fee. Life jackets are available, free of charge, near where the poolside giftshop used to be.

Pool noodles, either from home or purchased at the pool gift shop, may be used in SAB. Young children may use floats that surround their body if an adult is within arm's reach. These rules are subject to change and may be affected by crowd conditions.

Can children wear a life jacket on the Jib Slide?

Yes.

Can I use Stormalong Bay on my checkout day?

Yes! You will still have your Magic Band after you check out, and you still need to use before entering the pool area. You can store large bags with Bell Services. Recent reports are that only guests of the spa may use the lockers and showers in the health club. There are some lockers for use in the pool area near Beaches & Cream and outdoor showers poolside.

"Secret" Entrances/Exits to the Beach Club and Yacht Club

Step-Saving Super Secret Entrance to the Beach Club

There is a side entrance/exit to the Beach Club which takes you mere steps, probably 3 minutes, from the International Gateway Entrance. It is near room 1501.

This was really handy for us a couple of times this summer when it was wicked hot and when it had just started pouring.

You have to go through a lot of hallways to find it, so the best way to do this is to follow the signs to room 1501 from the lobby.

Here are photos of the exit door near room 1501, the pathway and the gate to the "secret entrance"

Have the new RFID Rapid Refill Beverage Mugs appeared at the Beach Club or Yacht Club?

(8/18/13) Rapid Refill machines have been installed at BC Marketplace and mugs are being sold. The program has not officially started yet though.

The prices listed before are correct. A chip is on the bottom on the mugs. If you purchase a one day mug at 9 PM Sunday night, it stops working in three hours. Midnight is the cut off time ... doesn't matter when you purchase them.

The "length of stay" mugs are really 14 day mugs. Let's say you check in today at the BC and purchase the length of stay mug. It's good at any Disney resort (and now they are saying only resorts, not water parks) for 14 days. So you can do split stays, you can go on a 3 day cruise and come back and for 14 days, your mug works. If your reservation is for 17 days, you bring the mug back to merchandise on the 14th day and they will reprogram it for the next 3 days. They can "read" the chip that is on the mugs so they can tell the day you purchased it, etc. As far as loosing one, you MUST show your receipt.

You cannot microwave these mugs. It fries the chip. If you bring it back to merchandise with a fried chip, then you are out of luck, receipt or not.

There is also a regular old cardboard cup that can be purchased for a few dollars. It is good for 2 hours and/or 4 refills. It also has a chip on it.

The dispensers only dispense 12 ounces at a time and once you use your mug for a fill-up, you cannot get another fill-up for 2-1/2 minutes
Reports from guests that Rapid Refill Mug are being sold at the Beach Club Marketplace. Regular mugs still allowable for now since this change started mid-stay for some. Will keep everyone posted as more info is provided.

(8/15/13) Not yet!

The Rapid Refill machines are all set up in the Beach Club Marketplace (not sure about at the other refill locations like Hurricane Hanna's), so I suspect we will see the program rolling out soon, maybe in a couple-few weeks. I read on another site that Disney is trying to go live by the end of August.

Here is some info I got from poking around the 'net, along with pictures of the mugs that are at the resorts testing the new program. Note: The mugs have the same design with the characters poolside, but there are now some additional lid colors available:

Note: This picture is NOT from the BC resort!!!

Disney Rapid Refill Mugs

Some of the specific details:

Rapid Fill allows guests to purchase a specific number of days of refills. RFID chips are embedded in the mugs and will only allow usage for the actual purchased number of days. At the end of the period you purchased, the mug will automatically deactivate.
The Rapid Fill mugs can be used at any resort hotel quick service fountain, regardless of where it was originally purchased. Although, we are not sure how practical a benefit that will be to most guests.
Unlike the existing refillable mug program where pricing is fixed for a length of stay, the new Rapid Fill will use a tiered pricing structure. Pricing are as follows:
" $8.99 for 1 day
" $11.99 for 2 days
" $14.99 for 3 days
" $17.99 for length of stay
(Side note: days are counted as a calendar day, and not a 24 hour period!)
As with the current refillable mug program, it will be included in some Disney Dining Plan benefits. Past mugs will not be able to be reused, and a new mug will need to be purchased for each resort stay.

I would appreciate a report of when this does indeed go live at the resort. Thanks!

Grocery Delivery Information and Reviews:

Garden Grocer

WeGoShop

I don't know the laundry question but I can answer the grocery delivery question.
There are 2 primary services Wegoshop.com and Garden Grocer. Both are reputable and deliver good service. There are differences in their offerings.
At Garden Grocer you shop their "Virtual Aisles" on line and order from their store. Their prices are marked up on each item you pay. With wegoshop.com you can pick your store and then you create your own list naming product, brand, size etc. You can specify if you will allow substitutions or not. They charge the actual store price and give you the original receipt with your delivery. Garden Grocer has a $40 minimum order. There is no minimum with wegoshop. Garden Grocer's delivery fees are lower than wegoshop's so I think the cost ends up about the same.
Garden Grocer gives a 2 hour delivery window, I think. Wegoshop gives a 30 minute window and has always delivered in that exact time frame for us.
I prefer to make my own list, so I prefer wegoshop. I schedule delivery directly to my Villa in the late afternoon. I prefer not to have my order delivered to Bell Services, which would then also need an additional tip. And I don't want to wait the 2 hour delivery window.
I have used wegoshop 7 times and I highly recommend them
Good Luck

What is the Best Way to Get a Case of Water (or other items) for Your Room?

The Yacht & Beach Club is a Convention resort so items that are shipped their by UPS or FedEx will be delivered to the convention mailing center and will be subject to a charge based on the weight of the item.

Because of this, it is often better to send items directly to resort via United States Postal Service (see instructions in the Other Useful Info Post)

I'm still working on this, so if anyone has suggestions or recent info about the prices of a case of water from the following sources, please let me know.

What are the options for getting a case of water or other items to your room, along with the advantages and disadvantages of each method???

Beach Club Marketplace, Dasani 24 pack, $16- need confirmation (no delivery fee)

Hess Gas Station near BW resort (no delivery fee, but must walk or drive there)- walk through the BW parking lot and it's just across the street from the entrance gate for BW. It is a bit of a hike, so if you decide to walk over there for water or other beverages, we suggest you take an empty rolling suitcase to make the transportation easier

Walmart/Target- must drive there, or take cab

Delivery Options:
Turner Drug, (407) 828-8125 - Cost? Delivery Fee?***
Staples- Cost? Delivery Fee? To front desk or convention center?
Garden Grocer- Cost? Minimum order required

*** August 2013
Hi everyone!!! I've been catching up and finally I can help Dee out. I just read about Turner Drugs and was checking out pricing, so here you go...

soda (coke, diet coke, pepsi, diet pepsi, mt. dew & sprite) 12 pack, 12 oz cans are $4.99 each.

water: Nestle, 1/2 liter bottles, 32 bottles (case) $7.99 or 6 pack $2.49 or Crystal Geyser, 1/2 litter bottles 24 bottles (case) $6.99 or 6 pk $2.19.

Delivery fee is $7.50 to all Disney Resorts including Swan and Dolphin. If your hotel is not on the list it's $10 to $15 depending on location.

It also states to call for delivery fees (407) 828-8125 and all online orders are $7.50.

The last part is slightly confusing, but I think it's safe to say if your staying onsite it's only $7.50 with no minimum $ amount needed and since they deliver to all resorts for the yc/bc/bcv it should go directly to that resort not the convention center. Hope this helps.

How do I get to EPCOT?

Guests of the EPCOT resorts enter EPCOT through the International Gateway. This entrance takes you to the World Showcase, on a path that is in between France and UK.

IGWalkway-2.jpg
IGSign-2.jpg
IGbypixarmom-1.jpg

Thanks for the pictures missyrose and pixeldust and pixarmom!

How do I enter EPCOT at rope drop/park opening?

Guests who enter EPCOT through the International Gateway prior to the park opening time should proceed on the walkway outside of UK and Canada. Cast members are stationed along the way (bridge to France being #1) to guide you through UK and Canada. After you pass the last little cart coming out of Canada you are directed onto the small pathway that leads toward the Fountain of Nations. There you will experience a real rope with CMs and characters milling around. Across from you, maybe forty yards away, are the guests that arrived from the front entrance.

After the countdown, the rope is removed and CMs will escort you to Soarin in an orderly fashion. Usually, you will arrive at Soarin' either at the same time or just a moment or so after those who enter through the main gates.

Note: Starting in 2013, the French bakery is now open at 9 am when EPCOT opens, so you also have the opportunity to stop there in the morning for a treat. Not sure at this point if the bakery is open at 8 am when EPCOT has early extra magic hours, so if someone could confirm this info, I would appreciate it!

If you have a pre-opening breakfast scheduled at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, you will provide your name and/or reservation to a CM at the International Gateway. You proceed through UK and Canada as described above, then continue past Mexico to Norway.

However, guests of the BC/YC/BCV who need to be at the front of the park BEFORE park opening (for example, marathon runners or for special tours) will probably need to take a taxi from the resort to the front entrance of EPCOT.

ETA: Rope drop info may no longer be applicable.

Should I take the bus* from the Beach Club to the Magic Kingdom or go through EPCOT and use the monorail?

We always take the bus from BC to MK!

Bus is definitely quicker:
The ride is less than 15 minutes from BC to MK, then you just have to add in the wait. I think 15 minutes is the most I have ever waited for a bus, it is usually around 5 minutes.

Here is a very conservative estimate of the trip from BC-EP-mono-MK:
5 minute walk to International Gateway, bag check and entry at IG
walk though United Kingdom, Canada and Future World to EP front entrance, 25 min
wait for mono ?
mono from EP to TTC plus changeover to express monorail, 15 min
mono to MK, 5 min.

So a minimum 50 minutes, with a lot of walking, an extra bag check and switching monorails.

Please note: You need Park Hoppers and EPCOT must be open if you are doing this.

That being said, we often take the monorail back to the BC from MK. That way, we can enjoy a couple of attractions along the way, or get some takeout from Sunshine Seasons or one of the World Showcase restaurants on the way back to our room.

* even if you have a car on property during your trip, it probably makes sense to take the bus when you are traveling to MK. If you are driving, you will have to park at the TTC and take the monorail or ferry boat to the MK entrance. If you take a bus, you are delivered to the front entrance. A taxi cab is another option, but again, this will only bring you to the TTC, so you may want to have the cab leave you off at the Contemporary Resort and walk or take the monorail, or to one of the other monorail resorts.

Where can I purchase and refill a refillable mug?

Refillable Mugs may be purchased and filled at the Beach Club Marketplace (self-serve station), Beaches and Cream (CM assisted service, get into the ice cream takeout line), Hurricane Hanna's (self-serve station) and the Ale and Compass Lounge* in the Yacht Club resort (coffee/tea self-service, juices and soda behind the bar).

*Recent reports say that the Ale & Compass location is only available until 12 noon, when the lounge opens up as a bar.

Pixarmom provided pictures of the beverage dispensers at the Marketplace and Hurricane Hanna's.

If you would like a full selection of menu items available 24 hours/day, consider visiting Picabu Cafeteria at the nearby Dolphin Resort. The Dolphin is a short walk (10 minutes) from the Yacht & Beach Club.

Here is a link to the menu for Picabu: Picabu Menu

Are the lobbies of the Beach Club and Yacht Club connected?

No. Yes. Kind of...

There is a corridor that will take you from the BC lobby to the YC lobby. Some of it is inside, some of it is open to the outside, but the entire route is covered.

From the Yacht Club lobby, you walk inside until you reach Yachtsman's Steakhouse, then you have to exit. You walk outside on a covered walkway, past the hair salon, exercise room & Beaches & Cream. Then you go back inside into the Beach Club, on the far side of Cape May, around the hallway & into the BC lobby. You wil be protected from rain, unless there is a real downpour with lots of wind.

Can I ship a package to Beach Club or Yacht Club for my stay?

If you ship a package to the resort, Mail by United States Postal Service*, not anything else!!! If you mail other than USPS, your items will be shipped to the convention center and the shipping department will charge the recipient a handling charge, based on the weight of your package.

In March 2012, the package retrieval fees were:

Up to 5 pounds: $3
5-20 pounds: $5
above 20 pounds: $10

Can you see any of the Illuminations fireworks from places around the resort?

There are a few places where you can view some of the high fireworks from EPCOT's Illuminations show. Many people recommend watching the fireworks from the bridge between the Beach Club and the Boardwalk resort areas. You can also see some of the high fireworks from the Beach Club beach or from the Stormalong Bay pool. Another suggestion (EagleScout) is to view the fireworks from the bridge connecting the YC and Swan resorts.

What kind of coffeemakers are in the resort rooms?

As of October 2011, the drip coffee makers in the BC and YC resort rooms were replaced.

The regular resort rooms and club level rooms (including Deluxe Rooms) now have the Cuisinart Double Pod Machines:

coffeemakerRorey-1.jpg

Coffeepod.jpg

Thanks for the photos Rorey, Cinderumbrella and MickeyT!

Here is what I believe are in the rooms currently. Anyone who has been there more recently, please correct this info if it is wrong:

All regular (non-club level) rooms: Cuisinart Pods

All standard club level rooms, all views (standard meaning non-suite), including Deluxe Club Level Rooms: Cuisinart Pods

Suites (1 BR, 2 BR, VP, Presidential Suites): Keurig K-cup

Beach Club Villas- Mr. Coffee-type makers (4 cup for studio, 10 cup for 1BR, 2BR)

I think this applies to both BC and YC- again, let me know if I am wrong!

I don't "do" Nescrape! Is there anyplace at the resort where I can get a REAL cup of coffee???

From guests in August 2013:
Grounds-breaking News: The coffee pods in the rooms and the coffee sold in the Marketplace is now Joffrey's coffee!!!

REAL COFFEE ALERT!!!

Ale and Compass is located just off the Yacht Club Lobby.

In the morning, breakfast items are available like a DECENT cup of coffee and tea, pastries, an assortment of cereal and fruit. This location also serves as a refill station for your refillable mug until 11 or noon.

Is there WiFi available at the resort? Is it free? Is it any good?

Yes and Yes and :confused3! In late 2011, the BC/YC/BCV started offering free WiFi in the resort common areas and in the guest rooms!

We have heard very mixed reviews about the speed and reliability of the WiFi connection at the resorts.

Will it fit???

Does an ipad fit in the room safe?

safewithipadMsCoz2000.jpg

MsCoz2000 provided the photo of the safe.

We have had conflicting reports of the sizes of the safe in the resort rooms (and throughout the different resorts at Disney, for that matter). It seems like rooms can have safes of different sizes.

If you have valuables that won't fit in the safe in your room, there are a couple of things you can do:

The front desk has a safe deposit box you can use.

You can check your items at Bell Services and they will lock it in the cage.

Here are a few experiences from guests:

I was able to fit two iPad's, a Kindle, a wallet, and a wallet size zippered pouch in our BC safe. Nothing got smooshed or broken. I wish it were a tad larger so I could have put the kid's iPod's into it, but oh well. I was impressed with all I DID fit in there. :)

from a recent guest in a Deluxe Room said:
I just returned from the Beach Club today, so this is very fresh to me. Mind you, we stayed in a Deluxe Room, Club level, so I can't speak for the typical BC room, but the in-room safe is exactly as you described. The size made it useless to us as we were hoping to store our iPads and they were too large for the safe. Additionally, the safe does have a key closure, rather than a combination which wasn't ideal to us either. I'm hoping that the safes will eventually be switched out because they are just archaic and inconvenient.

Going back to the safe question I do think there are different sizes, last year my macbook pro wouldn't fit in the safe in BWI CL but it has fit in the safe in OKW.

Safe dimensions: coming (but may not be helpful if the safes have a variety of sizes)

Will a gallon of milk fit in the room fridge?

No, but at least one half-gallon will fit in the door and possibly more in the main compartment.

What is a Bounce Back Offer?

Bounce Back is a promotion offered at selected times throughout the year offering a discount on a future trip if you book WHILE YOU ARE STILL AT THE RESORT. It used to be left on a card in your room, but now is part of the Be Our Guest guide that you should receive at checkin. You can also dial #8844 from any resort phone to see if a bounceback promotion is being offered and what the eligibility requirements are.

Please note- there may be a couple of different bounceback offers for the same dates of stay- percent off room rates or free dining. Call and ask!

You MUST book it before you check-out. Once you get home, you can change the dates or cancel it. However, once you check-out, even if you give them your reservation number and say you were just there, they won't allow you to book it.

Here is a picture of the 2014 bounce back offer in the Be Our Guest booklet in our packet when we were at the WL last week. You have to look for it in the folder with all the other information.

What is that awesome smell at the Beach Club? Where can I purchase the bath products used at the Yacht Club?
I've never slept better in my life- can I buy the mattress?

Yes!!!

Want to feel like you are living at the Yacht or Beach Club all year long??? You can purchase the body products provided for use during your stay, you can buy the same type of mattress that encourages restful vacation sleep and you can even purchase the scent system used in the lobbies so that your house can smell like your "Home away from home":

Check out the Disney Resort Collection for bedding and bath products (h2oProducts, Aquatics line)
www.disneyresortcollection.com

According to cindydare you may want to check out Beyond Down Pillows by Carpenter.
One of the few places that carries them is Belk Dept. Stores in the Southeast.

Another website I have seen mentioned is Own the Magic. I don't have any direct information about this source.

Amazon
Sporadically available at places like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Home Goods,

The scent generator may be purchased at Enviroscent/ www.scentairhome.com
The scent used is green clover and aloe
note: some recent reports indicate that the companies have not been accomodating to non-business customers. The unit is quite expensive (around $300 plus cost of cartridges)

Redneck scent solutions- if you can't afford the scentair system, there are reports that certain fragrances at Bath & Body Works and Yankee Candle are good matches. Unfortunately, some of these lines have been discontinued:

BBW: Rainkissed Leaves,
Yankee Candle: Exotic Rainforest, Oceanside Retreat, Cotton Blossom

This a blog entry from Disney dining website mentioning a place to order a Yacht & Beach Club lobby-scented candle Top Ten Disney Smells

And the candle is spot on with the scent of the lobby."

I found a pic! This was the soap I bought at Target that smelled just like the BC lobby!!!

Who can I contact if I have concerns about something during my vacation, I have a great suggestion or better still, to compliment something wonderful about my trip or to recognize a CM who helped make my stay magical?

Comments, Compliments or Complaints:

If you have an issue while still at the World:

You can go to City Hall or Guest Relations during your stay

If there is a problem with your room or another issue at the resort, your best bet is to go to the FRONT DESK of the resort to let them know what the problem is. Do NOT call on the telephone with resort concerns WHILE you are AT THE RESORT. These calls just go to a generic call center and your concern is placed at the back of a list. Tell the people who are on site and chances are, if it is possible, your concern will be dealt with more quickly. They will do their best to help find a solution to your needs, whatever they may be. In the off chance that you find that your problem is not being addressed in an effective manner, request to speak with a MANAGER, who often has the experience to assist the CM in helping to find a solution to your problem.

Keep in mind that the staff at the resort can't read minds so be sure to talk to someone and let them know what the problem is.

After you have returned home from your stay:

email wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

or send a letter to:

Another excellent way to be heard is through exit surveys. Surveys are sent to every guest by mail or by email after a stay.

The surveys are reviewed at the actual resort as well as WDW with a fine tooth comb!!! It's the perfect way to get your comments (good or bad) about the resort and/or cast members and/or experiences during your vacation.

If you were given incorrect information from the Central Reservations Booking Office, or if you miss resort-specific merchandise in the gift shops or if you want to recognize a CM who went out of their way to make your trip magical, this is a very effective way for the powers to be to see your message!

Directions to Super Target, from the Beach Club:

Head towards Animal Kingdom Lodge (not park) and turn left at the light before you get to the Lodge (Sherberth Road). When you get to 192, turn right (west) and it's up the road a bit on the left. Lots of nice restaurants around there and much less crowded that the other side of WDW.

Can you give me some tips for traveling with someone with health issues or limited mobility?

Walt Disney World Disability Services (407) 560-2547

Here is what Ninja Mom, who has had a bout with cancer herself and is missing a part or two, has learned to do when going on a Disney trip....

1) Have realistic expectations

2) Plan Ahead!

3) "Zig" when everyone else "Zags" to avoid the crowds and spend less time waiting in lines

4) Go EARLY at park opening, LEAVE at Lunch time and go back to the hotel for a rest. Go out again for dinner and an evening of more attractions.

5) Start walking now

Suggestions for managing Disney with limited mobility by NinjaMom

Where can I rent a stroller, scooter, wheelchair or other mobility items during my stay?

www.KM-Rentals.com and Mobility Equipment Rentals both deliver to the resorts and both run about $125 weekly. KM-Rentals offers free delivery and pick-up ... not sure about Mobility Equipment Rentals.

I have also heard great reviews about Apple Scooters for rental/delivery of strollers, scooters and wheelchairs, www.applescooter.com

Wheelchairs may also be provided free of charge to resort guests, subject to availability upon check-in.

A piece of advice about charging your scooter: Charge your scooter in your room. There are limited outlets outside the room, and if you leave the scooter to charge overnight, someone else may come along, unplug your scooter to use the outlet. The next morning, you will discover your scooter has not been charged.

How Do I Keep My Grey Goose Slushie from Sloshing out of the Flismy Cup They Gave Me?

About the only problem with the Grey Goose Slushie is that it is sold in a very flimsy martini glass. I find that as I drained more and more slushie, I was surprisingly more and more likely to tip over the cup while booking across the World Showcase trying to balance the cup and also snap pictures while walking. There must be a better way!

Very important tip from pixarmom: Use your refillable mug for the slushie. Pop on the lid. Insert straw. Enjoy!

IMG_0943.jpg
GGSrefillcrop.jpg

A refillable mug provides a 'stealth' container so you can travel with it out of the parks and back to the Beach/Yacht club. Florida has a "No open container of alcohol" law so if Cast Members see you coming toward the exit of EPCOT with what's obviously a slushie or other alcoholic drink they will tell you to finish it or dump it.

~So take a container or chug the remainder!~

Can you explain "String-Bag Theory" to me?

Well, I am no physicist, but yes I can!

Some of you know that I have an unhealthy obsession with string bags and Ziplocs.

1) On days when we don't need ponchos, we try to only bring what we can carry through in our hands or pockets. Folded backsack(s) in back pocket. Cell Phones and small point & shoot cameras in shorts pockets or larger camera hanging around neck (no camera bag)- extra memory cards/batteries in pockets. Carry bottles of water.

Once you are through bag check, you can take the folded backsack out of your back pocket and empty the things in your pockets, plus the drinks, into the sack to make it easier to carry.

2) This is how we packed our ponchos for the Disney parks last July.

We rolled our ponchos into a large (2 or 2 1/2 gallon bag). Any other stuff we brought into the parks, like moleskin, extra memory cards, camera batteries and journals for notes, went into another, smaller plastic bag. We also carried another empty large ziploc to keep everything dry if it rained. We would wear the ponchos and then the string bag and contents would fit into the bag. When it stopped raining, we tried to wring out the ponchos, roll them up and place them back in their bag so they didn't get everything else wet.

It was great going through bag check. We had two clear see-through bags that the checkers didn't even have to open- just look and give a quick squeeze. Someone else carried the deflated string bag in their pocket. Once past that point, the two bags went back into the string bag.

PS- my bag was custom made by DISer Mickeystoontown. She often adds a Mickey Head outline decoration to the bag but I preferred to have mine without one.

PPS- the observant reader may notice that some of these bags are Hefty, not Ziploc. A rose by any other name...

How do I...

Multi-quote more than one post?
There are 3 buttons on the bottom right corner of every post. The normal Quote button, the Multi Quote button ("+) and the Quick Reply button (scroll and quill). Click the middle Multi Quote button ("+) on all of the posts you want to quote. The buttons will backlight red when you select it. When you have selected all of the posts, go to the bottom of the page and click on the POST REPLY button. You will be taken to a Dialog box where all of the posts will be quoted, ready for your answers.

Hyperlink a post?

How do I go from this: Stormalong Bay Pool Complex http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=44296451&postcount=2

To this? Stormalong Bay Pool Complex

People can click on this and it will bring them to the post about SAB.

To hyperlink (that is, show just the words that you want to click on instead of the link address above, you need to add the following symbols. I am going to replace brackets [ with braces { or otherwise you wouldnt be able to see what I was typing

add {url= before the address
add } after the address
Type the name of the chapter
Highlight the name of the chapter you have just typed, then use the symbols to underline and color (Blue is commonly used)
End the post with {/url}

So your line will look like:
{url=http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=44296451&postcount=2}{U}{COLOR="Blue"}Stormalong Bay Pool Complex{/COLOR}{/U}{/url}

Do you have any packing tips?

How NinjaMom packs for a trip

A Simpler Approach from Best Aunt

Packing bottles of liquid (adult beverages) in checked luggage

And a couple from natebenma:

If you are bringing more than 1 suitcase, make sure you have at least one outfit for each traveler in each piece of luggage. If one bag gets lost, at least everyone will have something to wear.

Legos- these are my sons' favorite souvenirs. In order to get our haul home after a trip to the Lego Store, I open the box and pack the individual bags in our suitcases. Much less bulky. If you want to save the box, you can flatten and put a the bottom of your suitcase.

Essential items: Don't forget the chargers/batteries for your phones and cameras. A booklight if you will be reading out on the balcony in the early morning hours. Ziplock bags of all sizes! Many many uses for these. Swim goggles. Moleskin to help prevent blisters from forming. Glide body stick for chafing issues.

One Suggestion for Avoiding Frustration on your return trip from DTD-Dee's tip for avoiding the worst leg of travel in the World!

Please note that the opinions expressed are those of Natebenma alone (but have been been expressed by everyone else I have ever talked to)

The return trip from Downtown Disney to the Yacht & Beach Club, or to any resort for that matter is notoriously torturous. It's bad! We have not found the buses TO DTD to be all that bad but we HATE the buses that return from DTD to BC, it takes forever since the buses often stop at a water park, or change drivers, or make dropoffs at all of the EPCOT resorts, or all of the above. And the DTD return buses are always crowded. Always.

This is what we do, and it has made our trips to DTD SO much more enjoyable. Not faster. But funner! You need park hopper tickets for this, which IMHO is a great idea anyway when you are staying at BC/YC. It also requires that you return prior to the closing time for EP- either 9 PM or midnight on EMH nights.

When we are on our way back to the Beach Club, we take one of the DTD resort boats (to POR, OKW or Saratoga Springs). We find the bus stop at the resort and hop on a bus to EPCOT, then we walk through the park, enjoying attractions along the way.

Both days we did this we planned our DTD on a morning we had been at EP, and as a double bonus, we pulled a FP to Soarin' before leaving the park in the morning, and then used it on our way back to the room.

ETA: with new FP enforcement rules, this perk may be kaput :sad2:

Here are the two posts from my TR where we did this.

July 2010

July 2009

A similar method works for us when we are traveling from another resort back to the BC- we take the monorail or bus to EP first.

Thanks for the photo, LovintheLodge!

And now, please rise for the Beach & Yacht Club FAQ Official Anthem:

Then of course there is that Song Wasted Away in Beach Clubaritaville.
Here are the lyrics to that:

Nibblin' on cup cakes,
watchin' the sun bake;
All of those tourists covered with oil.
Strummin' my six string on my full balcony swing.
Smell those shrimp At Cape May Cafe
They're beginnin' to boil.

Wasted away again in Beach Clubaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a Greeter to blame,
But I know it's nobody's fault.

Don't know the reason,
Stayed here all season
With nothing to show but this brand new magic band.
But it's a real beauty,
A Brazillian cutie, how it got here
I haven't a clue.

Wasted away again in Beach Clubaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a Greeter to blame,
Now I think, - hell it could be my fault.

I blew out my Fast Pass,
Stepped on a Chair hog,
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there's booze in the blender,
And soon it will render
A Sunken Treasure that helps me hang on. (*note, the ST is not a frozen drink, but maybe it should be!)

Wasted away again in Beach Clubaritaville
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a Greeter to blame,
But I know, it's my own damn fault.
Yes, and some people claim that there's a Greeter to blame
And I know it's my own damn fault.

This just in! As of March 2013, the pins have all been distributed! Thanks Nannette for taking on the task of mailing these out!

Are you staying at the Yacht or Beach Club or the Beach Club Villas and want to meet or be recognized by other DIS'ers? Thanks to a wonderful design from RustManFan of the Creative Designs Forum, and the enthusiasm of DIS'er Janloz, we now have fashionable pins available upon request and free of charge!

Thanks, pixarmom, Feckless, WDW4us2006 and Ninja Mom for the photos!

Please note that the Sunken Treasure is no longer on the menu at Hurricane Hanna's, however if you get a bartender who knows how to make the drink, you may still be in luck!

Yacht and Beach Club Voluptuous Noodle Swap Historical Page

I am sorry to inform everyone that the resort will no longer allow pool noodles to be held in storage and passed between guests, so the private Noodle Swap coordinated on the BC/YC FAQ thread has been discontinued. Bell Services will no longer be permitted to accept or keep noodles turned in to them.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the swap! The posters on the this forum were able to successfully execute a pool noodle swap from June 2011 until September 2012. It was certainly fun and lasted a lot longer than anyone ever imagined when we started this!

Meet the Noodle Family:

Paul, Pastina, Penne and Ramen

They will making their first visit to Disney World and the Beach Club in June 2011. They have decided to take up permanent residence at the resort and will be spending time with different families as part of a "noodle relocation program"

**********************************************************************************************

Well, after their introduction to the Beach Club/Yacht Club and Stormalong Bay, the Noodle Family has decided to stick around. The first handoff was successful!

The Noodles Get Married, August 22, 2012
Unfortunately, it didn't work out. Pinkgirl wanted to take them back to the UK, but, surprisingly, the noodles were inflexible. They wanted to stay at Stormalong Bay. Can't say I blame them!

***************************************************************************************************************
IN MARCH 2012, THE NOODLES WENT MISSING!

WantedPoster.jpg

Are they pool hopping at another Disney resort? (why would they?)
Did they leave along with Matthew, Johnny or Robert after their guest appearances at Captains Grille?
Or did a more nefarious fate befall the family???

We have a few leads and have assembled a crack (crack-pot?) team of imaginary detectives to solve the case of the Great Noodle Caper (mmm... noodles with capers...). We will let you all know what Thomas Magnum, Jessica Fletcher, Barnaby Jones or the team from Scooby Doo discover.
(Check the abandoned Wonders of Life Pavilion- old man Jones was seen skulking about)

Update- due to the generosity of guests, a new set of noodles "resurfaced" and the swap continued for several additional months.

Lily's Pad:

I know a lot of you are new to the thread- there is a lot of history here and a lot of great friendships made in past versions of this thread, but I want to introduce Teena to anyone who doesn't know her (yet).

Teena is a greeter in the lobby of the Beach Club

P7110023-1.jpg

Hi Gang,

Just an FYI: My new hours (10 hour days) start this Sunday, June 9: 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM. That means I will probably take a 15 minute break around 10:30, then take my 45 minute lunch at 12:45, then a 10 minute break at 4:00 PM. I'll leave the lobby around 6:20 PM.

Look for her on Sundays and Mondays unless she and Bob are on one of their treasured cruises to Castaway Cay or out visiting her two shining lights in Vegas, her daughter Jeanne and her first grandchild, Lily born in July 2011.

Here is a link to some pictures when Teena was presented by Disney execs with an award from President Obama in May 2011 for helping out so much at Jeanne's school:

Presidential Award, May 2011

Presidential Award, 2013:

We were all eagerly awaiting "Peanut's" arrival in the months leading up to July and even had some fun, friendly competition to guess her birthdate and whether she was a Princess or a Pirate.

Lily's arrival was a very special moment for our beloved Teena in a year that has been tough due to some health issues. She bravely shared what she was going through with all of us, once again, in an attempt to help others who may be facing similar challenges. :grouphug:

Teena has faithfully posted on this board and has helped us all gain great knowlege about these resorts, so many of us who hang around here can now also answer the questions that are posted here.

I will occasionally post the photos she provides to me, because, well, Teena may know everything there is to know about the Beach Club but she don't know beans about technology! :rotfl:

Trip Report: Lily Goes Live: A Princess' First Visit to Her Kingdom (And More!)

This report follows Lily's first visit to WDW, plus trips to the Beach Club, Disneyland and MORE!

:welcome: Princess Lily!!! princess:

Disney (and the Beach Clubs) newest princess has arrived:

WhatBigEarsyouhave.jpg

Lillian (Lily) Grace
Born 7/11/11, 7:59 am
6 Lbs, 11 oz, 20 inches

Please note that Lillian is a name truly worthy of Disney royalty as this was the name of Walts wife.

It also goes without saying that 7 come 11 is a great date for a baby born in Las Vegas!

Congratulations to Jeanne and Brian and to proud Nanny Teena and Pop Pop Bob!

From Teena, June 2013:

Jeanne said Lily FINALLY likes princess stuff. She was not into the princesses at all but Jeanne got so tired of her watching the parades (a friend taped them onto a DVD for her), Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake the Pirate, that she started putting Disney movies in the DVD player. She started with Cars and Nemo and after being sick of them being played over and over again, Jeanne put in Beauty and the Beast. OMG ... she loved it after the first hour of crying for Nemo. And when Belle dances around, Lily dances around.

I had purchased a bunch of princess dresses (of course) and one of them (the green one) is there in Vegas and the rest are here since I figured Jeanne would want her to wear them when we visit WDW. She has shown it to Jeanne but Jeanne had no interest in frilly things .... UNTIL NOW. Apparently she pointed to it after the second time of "dancing" to Beauty and the Beast and screamed "mama, mama, put on". So on it went and she danced and danced and danced. So we now have an official Disney Princess!!!!!

BTW- Kudos to Cinderumbrella (July 10) and 333disneymom (July 12) who came closest in the "Is Peanut a Princess or a Pirate" pool-
Honorable Mention goes to BCV23 for having the correct date (July 11), but the wrong gender!
