Have been following their recent US amusement park trip and it's nice to see some great parks shown off. My roadtrip this summer is going to involve visiting a few of those parks. I'm doing Six Flags Great America, Indiana Beach and Kings Island. I wish more vloggers showcased some of the great parks the US has. Maybe it would help get some people interested in visiting more than their local park.

I think there are a number of reasons why some amusement parks only have local appeal. In the northern part of the country, amusement park seasons are basically Memorial Day thru Labor Day due to the weather. They might have other occasional weekends when they are open but close for season once it gets cold. No one is going to go there when it is cold and snowing for several months of the year. Disneyworld stays open the year-round due to the warmer weather so clearly they can invest in things that are always open and providing a return on their investment. Over the years, Disney has grown from one park to four and continued to add new hotels. People travel there as a vacation destination from all over the world.

Most local amusement parks are at most an overnight sort of thing. I know when we lived in parts of the country near a park we would travel there, do the park and then stay overnight. On the second day we did more park time and then drove home. I think that is what many people since the parks aren't big enough to spend more then a day or two at a time. Locals might get season passes and go more frequently, but it is still a smaller place where there are only so many rides/shows/places to eat or things to do.

People are far less likely to travel a long distance to a small regional amusement park unless is it part of a vacation trip including other stops. I really don't think the amount of online exposure has much to do with their popularity.
