Urgh! I just started my new job at the Children's Home, well tonight they told me that I didn't need to work tomorrow unless I wanted to so I said well I'll come in, nothing else to do and the money doesn't hurt, gives me more time to get to know the kids, etc.
Well I said this in thinking that my cousin who I have not seen since 1995' who surprised us with a visit yesterday and is here till Sunday morning was going to go with me to Disney saturday (my normal day off this week), well she changed her mind and now wants to go tomorrow, so guess what... I'm working! :(
I haven't had the chance to even go over to see her yet, I'm dying to visit but figured I could tomorrow before work now she'll be in WDW without me..waaaaaa!
And I work overnight Saturday so I'll need to sleep sat during the day, MAN! Just my luck.
Now I've got a million things going through my head like if I only would have said no I always could have called tomorrow and said yes I'll work, or should I call in the AM and ask for it off. They don't need me anyhow, only need 2 staff per 12 kids, and there will be 5 tomorrow because of myself and two others getting to know the place (training). So she said I didn't have to work.
Wishes, COP, TTA, etc keep running through my head, I haven't been since May and my passes are burning a hole in my pockets...::yes::

Of course, it figures they haven't taken the phones off of the answering system on time this morning... ahhhh!

LOL, I hope you get to go soon.

just tell them you where abuducted but your ok now

If I was new to a job, and had already agreed to come in, I would not be calling out. JMHO.

I agree with Jasmine on this one.

If you're not that far from Disney - and can go pretty much whenever you please - I would not risk the new job for it.. I was on a three-month probation on my last job and was terminated for being out with a severe case of pnuemonia (doctors notes and all!)..

I concur with some of the others.

I would not go back on my word and call off, especially to just spend the day at Disney. It doesn't send a very positive image of you to management. If one of my employees did this and I found out - their butts would be in a sling.....

Yep, I agree with Jasmine et al.....if you've already agreed to come in, you should honor your commitment to your employer. Looks like you aren't far from WDW anyway, so there'll no doubt be a visit in the not-too-distant future anyway. :)

If I were you I would definetly Work if you have already said that you would go in.You can go to Disney anytime. You said before you needed this job,So I do not think I would risk it.I would be pretty peeved if I were your supervisor and you called in after agreeing to work.

Hehehehe...what's funny is I just received an email this morning saying that because I'm a passholder, I can stay at a discounted rate at Animal Kingdom Lodge :) Hahaha...I pretty much stay there for "free" everyday already :)

You said before in some of your posts that you were left with alot of bills to pay, so this might be a no brainer to me but if your bills are not caught up and paid, go to work and make money etc. but if your bills are o.k. you could think about it, however, I just heard on the radio, that since president bush took office there has been a loss of 1 million jobs. A job is hard to come by these days, I agree with the other posters, its better to make a good impression on your new employers, your self gratification at disney can wait. After all, good things come to those who wait, right? You will appreciate it much better.

It's not just Disney, this is my cousin who I haven't seen in over 10 years who I was VERY close with before. If she went today and I didn't I wouldn't get to see her at all this visit.
My supervisor said to me that they didn't need me, aka please take the day off so we don't have to pay someone else... and when she found out I had company in town she even more so pushed me to take it off.
So this morning I called and talked to her, asked her if tonight was still same situation too many staff, etc.... since there would have been a very real chance of me being sent home anyhow if she wanted I would be willing not to come in... but worded it better. I told her if not, please don't hesitate to tell me no, no hard feelings, I don't want to do anything to jepordise my new position, etc... she told me no way, please take it off, it's fine I told you that last night, etc, etc.
She knew where I was going and why, to visit with my cousin who I haven't seen in years and her son.
Of course today was wonderful, but I did feel a little doubt and I just hope that she was being honest with me on the phone about it being perfectly fine. I didn't tell her I wanted it off, just asked if there was a chance of me being sent home anyhow, would she rather I just not come in, etc... she had to send two people home last night because there were too many of us.
