Cover Story I -- Baby Boom! Is Billy's gift to Victoria a bundle of joy ... or of trouble?
This week on Y&R, Victoria is stunned when Billy makes her dreams come true by presenting her with their adopted daughter. But will the secret he's hiding ultimately tear their happy family to shreds?
Too Good to be True -- Although Victoria desperately wants to em brace the newborn as her own, the suddenness of the surprise adoption naturally leaves her wary. "She's in disbelief in the beginning," explains portrayer Amelia Heinle. "Then, her second reaction is questions: 'Where did this baby come from? Why did they giver her up?' Then, her third reaction is, 'Are you sure they're not going to end up knocking on our door and taking this baby back?'"
Having just lost her own baby, Victoria is understandably reluctant to take a chance on having her heart broken again. "She doesn't want to risk it," the actress says. "It takes a while to heal."
But Billy assures his wife it's all above board, and ultimately she, in turn, assures the fussing infant that "Mommy is here."
A Web of Love -- But Billy isn't exactly telling the whole truth, and he knows it ... even if he's not about to let his wife in on the secret! "What he's doing isn't exactly on the up and up," admits Billy Miller (Billy). "And he doesn't want to get too specific with her on how he came by this baby. It's sort of touchy."
And not only is Billy lying to his wife -- he's lying to himself! "I think Billy can talk himself into pretty much anything," he says. "It's not immoral if the baby is going to a really good family. He doesn't know where the baby came from. He just knows that there's a baby. He's trying to hide that part from himself, really,"
When Phyllis stops by, Billy introduces her to his and Victoria's new daughter, and the redhead is emotionally affected, having just experienced losing her granddaughter. But Billy doesn't make the connection that he might have just purchased Daniel and Daisy's baby. "No," Miller laughs, "because ... what are the odds, right?"
But if the truth comes out -- sorry, when the truth comes out (it is a soap, after all!) -- things are going to get really ugly! "He might be in trouble with Victoria," Miller chuckles. "He might be in trouble with everyone! He might be up the creek without a paddle!"
