The Year of a Million Dreams Announcement

Maybe I'm just ignorant, and this may sound juvenile, but what do we think the difference is between the cost of thousands of lanyards, mickey ears, free dinig cards, Golden Fastpasses, rebuilding the suites and Castle room, and so on, and a new E-Ticket attraction? It seems to me that EE will have a much more lasting positive effect on WDW then any silly marketing scheme. So why don't they build another mountain and market that? What do I know, I ain't a bean-counter...

It seems to me its all about the marketing. If you build a e ticket and put on TV people will say "that looks cool next time we're at WDW we'll have to see that". However, if they wrap it around a celebration and pretend its one of a kind celebration then people may march down there. I assume some day people will realize there's a one of a kind celebration every year.

Certainly that's a valid question. The Millineum was a natural, and WDW provided a family-oriented way to celebrate. 100 Years of Magic was a tribute to a significant and beloved historical figure. HC was a birthday celebration for a beloved place. Plus, there were gaps between these.

HC was billed as the big one. "We're pulling out all the stops".

The immediate question is can they pull off yet another marketing coup, this time right on the heels of a just completed one and without as much substance to back it up? (Not that the HC was overflowing with substance.)

As to why go with a marketing celebration over an E-ticket, its because that's what Disney believes is the best use of their resources. They believe they will get a better return on their marketing dollars than on the capital expenditures necessary for an E-ticket. They've repeatedly stated this to investors over the last year or so.

And they may unfortunately be right. But they have given us a new E ticket every year / year and a half or so, haven't they?

My husband and I and our 9 month old son just got back from disney world. We went July 27- July 30th. On our first day we went to animal kingdom and we went up to the ticket window to purchase our daily tickets for the day. We did not buy in advance any park hopper tickets. When I opened up my wallet to pay for the one day passes the Man behind the counter named Doug gave my husband and I two 4 day park hopper passes for free. He said congratualtions your wish has been granted enjoy the year of a million dreams. We were shocked and so appreciative. What a way to start off our sons first trip to Disney World.

Congratulations:) How exciting! I wondered if anyone has gotten anything. We thought maybe they were looking for a family with a little bit older kids than ours, but guess not. That gives me hope that we might get something. We hope 3rd times a charm.
