After recharging our batteries from the flights the day before, we were up and at it at...4:30am! It's incredibly frustrating on your first day when your up at Dawn of Disney time and want to get up and at 'em. We try to pass some time by having a shower and getting the Wrigglemonster ready.

We decided we couldn't take it any longer and went for a walk at about 5:45am along the river a bit then over to the Riverside Mill (which I love), which is POR's Food Court where to our surprise, we're not the only Disney zombies that are up.

There are quite a few people mulling about so we decided to get a little something to eat. The Wrigglemonster has a banana and Mallinda and I have a warm Cinnamon bun. They just don't get done justice here in the UK.

By this time you're lucky if it's 6:30am! So we decide to go off on a little tour around our home for the next 2 weeks. POR is absolutely beautiful as the sun is going down or coming up. It's so quiet and laid back. It had the feeling of being on-site and off-site at the same time. I liked the fact that it wasn't 'in your face' Disney, (even though obviously we love Disney).

We decide that because we're up so early, we'll take a stroll along to French Quarter and get the bus from there. So we set off and are surprised that, even taking a slow stroll, it only takes about 10-15 minutes to get there. It's a nice cool-ish morning but there's still that sting of the sun in the air, even at such an early time. This day turned out to be one of the hottest days of the trip (not ideal with a 1 year old tackling MK for the first time, as we were about to find out later in the day).

What's that in the distance? Why it's Port Orleans French Quarter

The thing I really like about POR in particular, is that is actually slightly feels like Frontierland. It just has the look and the smell of FL, which is one of my favourite sections of MK.

So we hop along to POFQ, and are met with a rather decidedly small resort (nothing wrong with that), just a lot more compact and close together than POR. I think POFQ / POR is a one or the other scenario. Some enjoy the closeness of facilities at POFQ, but I liked the large span of POR. We were lucky though when staying at POR as our building was the second building across the bridge so didn't have far to walk to the buses or the lobby. I think it helps that the Wrigglemonster's in her stroller though. There's no “it's so far to walk” shenanigans!

We take a quick look around POFQ then set off for the bus. I'm sure they do this at every Disney resort (this is our first time staying on-site), but I like the fact that someone stands outside the main door of the lobby and asks where you're heading. When you tell them, they have a map to hand and tell you which bus stop to go to. Great service, but such a little touch.

We take the relatively short bus ride to MK (roughly 20 mins), and when we step off the bus, it's HOT!!!! I've been twice in September before, but this was summer hot.

An early morning shot of the Grand Floridian.

Things didn't start going too well when Mollie was in buckets of sweat and we hadn't already gotten in to the park. We stood in the pen :D (the enclosure at the front of the train station waiting on the rope drop ceremony) and when the characters appeared, she was interested, but far too hot (bless her).

This then led to our shortest ever in/out at a Disney park. We entered as it opened at 9:00am and must've been out at 9:30am. The Wrigglemonster just wasn't coping well at all. We picked up our 'Anniversary / First Visit' badges before leaving and to be honest, didn't mind as it was really hot.

I think the travelling really took it out of her, so I think we made the best decision. We headed back to the resort and Mallinda went for a nap as did the Wrigglemonster, whilst I went to the Food court to pick up our refillable mugs and some lunch. Can I just say, these mugs were absolute life savers. $12.99 each and we quickly made that cash back. I think because refills was such as a novelty, I must've went back about 6 times in the one day. They really came in handy throughout the holiday.

Since mother and daughter were having a kip, I decided to head to the pool for a bit. It was scorching so came back to the room and hit it up with some nice cool machine air.

A view of the inside of our shaded room :D

We decided to give it another bash. It's so difficult on your first day because travelling really takes it out of you, but you just want to get stuck in, so we figure DTD would be a bit easier. We get the bus to DTD and again it's still scorching. First stop is World of Disney, where I'm desperate to get the book I wanted from last year (Haunted Mansion: From the Movies to the Magic Kingdom). At this point, I think the woman at the cash register thinks I'm one of the 999 happy haunts, as I'm about falling asleep as I'm getting served.

We decided to try something that we've never done before (this was a running theme for the holiday). We headed to Ghiradelli's for an ice cream sub boat. It was fantastic (no photos i'm afraid. Don't worry, this soon changes throughout the trip). It was still roasting and the Wrigglemonster was still pretty grouchy / tired. We decided to try a walk round DTD but was absolutely knackered. We figured it'd be best to head back to the resort and have a bit of a resort to give our bodies time to recharge. WELL...they certainly did that. We lay down on the bed for a moment (this was around 7pm, the Wrigglemonster was already sleeping). We then woke at about 5:00am the next morning!...

Wow that was a short visi to MK :scared1: hope after your rest you get more done tomorrow.

Yeah, but we thought it was for the best. We were all kind of still tired after the flat and actually it got alot better after that day. I think Mollie just needed to catch up on some sleep.

Gosh, no wonder you were tired after being up that early, dont blame you for going back for a nap, great pictures:goodvibes

We got up 'really' early for the first few days then slept abit later till about 7am for the rest of the holiday.

Although that was the shortest every visit to MK, I think you were wise to follow your instincts regarding the Wrigglemonster's mood :goodvibes:thumbsup2

Your wrigglemonster is SO cute!!

I love your photos and am looking forward to reading the rest of your trip report! :thumbsup2

That really could be a record for the shortest visit to the Magic Kingdom :) I know what you mean about not pushing it on the 1st day!

At least you done the right thing and came out of the park! The heat gets to me too :)

We always find the 1st day a killer as well. September is a very hot and humid month to go unfortunately. Mind you, we went in July/August a couple of years ago and it was hot, hot, hot!

Your wrigglemonster looks adorable though, loving your report so far.

See, I've been in September the two previous years and didn't find it as hot.

It's so hard on the first day with a little one, because you want to do something, but it's not always the best idea. On our first day last year when evie was 2 and a half we were out of MK by lunchtime, you have to follow the child's mood or it's miserable for everyone! Off to find the next part!
